I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Colorado, specializing in grief and loss, trauma, and crisis intervention. I was licensed in 1992 and since then I have worked in hospitals, private practice and several agencies, including Community Reach Center Mobile Crisis Unit, Denver Rescue Mission, and All-Health Network. As a crisis counselor/first responder, I support people after hurricanes, mass shootings, bank robberies, corporate downsizings and natural disasters. In particular, I have walked with the dying and the bereaved through their grief. I earned a BA from Virginia Tech in Communications, an MA in counseling and an MA in spiritual formation. A minor in nutrition was very helpful when I worked with patients who struggled with eating disorders. As a counselor, I cannot solve your problems; only you can do that. But I can walk beside you as a guide, mentor and encourager. Together, we can look at your situation and consider how things came to be as they are and how we can address the issues that are holding you back. I believe that each person was made for a special purpose but sometimes life issues can get us off track. My desire is to help you become all that you were created to be. I look forward to meeting you and working together in the days ahead.

I have been working in the mental health field for the last 27 years in which I have experience in several different genres of clientele. I have worked in both inpatient care and outpatient services. These services have included family systems, individual and family counseling, domestic violence, chemical addiction-gambling addictions, and severe mental health needs. Currently, I am serving in a correctional setting with incarcerated offenders with a specialized program for Juveniles Convicted as Adults Program assisting the offender to transfer from a correctional setting after serving at least 25 years of their sentence. To assist those to understand my clinical approach to counseling, I take a client-centered, solution-focused approached to counseling. By using both cognitive-behavioral and logotherapy techniques, I assist those who chose to engage in therapy to understand the drivers to their behaviors and addressing purpose and meaning in their lives. To understand Logotherapy, it is a school of psychology and a philosophy based on the idea that we are strongly motivated to live purposefully and meaningfully, and that we find meaning in life as a result of responding authentically and humanely (i.e. meaningfully) to life's challenges. By using Logotherapy and understanding our belief systems we can better understand how we can make changes to our thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Hello! My name is Melanie Hotz, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) licensed in Colorado with over 10 years of experience working with adults. I have a Bachelors's degree in General Psychology with a minor in Criminal Justice; I graduated with a Master's degree in Clinical Counseling from the University of Northern Colorado in 2008. I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) with a Person-Centered approach; I utilize mindfulness techniques along with CBT to help one learn tools to help manage uncomfortable emotions. I strive to meet clients where they are and adjust therapy to meet the needs of my client. I have experience with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjusting to changes in life. We all have a dialogue going on in our minds every day, many times we are not aware of how this "self-talk" affects our mood and choices in life. Using CBT I help clients become more aware of what they are telling themselves, how it affects them, and how to shift negative thoughts to be more neutral or positive. Therapy is hard, but I am here to help you achieve your goals. I can't do it for you, but I can be here to support you as you journey through the rough roads in life and hopefully help you get to the smoother road ahead, or find better equipment for the rough spots. I look forward to meeting you! Melanie
