Kathleen Adams
Hello! I’m a Colorado Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in private practice since 1992. My practice is limited to adults. My theoretical orientation is in humanistic psychology, with training in cognitive-behavioral methods and solution-focused therapy. The merger of these methods means that I’m quite effective with people who want to discover their core strengths and core values and use them to achieve positive change in a variety of areas. Depression and anxiety, communication issues, self-esteem, grief and loss, recovery from unhappy or unhealthy relationships, better choice-making, transitions of all types and women’s self-emmpowerment are among my areas of experience. My personal philosophy of therapy is that it is a garden in which we grow the roots and blossoms of individual potential – those innate and unique gifts, talents and “superpowers” that each of us is born with but have not yet fully cultivated. Once these aspects of self are identified, they can become allies in the healing process. To that end, the watering can in my therapeutic toolshed is journal therapy, which I define as the intentional and purposeful use of life-based writing for healing, growth and change. I have helped to pioneer this field since 1985, when I was a first-year counseling graduate student. Client outcomes demonstrate that insight, clarity and positive outcomes come more quickly and easily when a journal is used as a companion in the therapeutic experience. I love my work and have happily juggled being a therapist, a teacher/trainer and an author for over 30 years. My first book, Journal to the Self, was released in 1990 and was an immediate best-seller. It is now considered a classic in the field. My 13th book, Journal Therapy for Calming Anxiety, was released in June 2020.

Amy Cooper
I am a licensed professional counselor in Colorado with over 7 years of professional work experience. I have worked with many clients wanting to manage their stress and anxiety as it relates to personal relationships and surrounding the work environment. I also have an extensive background in supporting clients with substance use disorders and other addictions. Taking a harm-reduction approach to this work has empowered my clients to lead self-fulfilling lives. I was also trained by Stephanie Covington, a trauma and abuse researcher and author. This training has allowed me to work with clients on healing without reliving the traumas of the past. Most recently, I have done training around disordered eating and supporting clients in healthy relationships with food and body image. My therapy style is very integrative and client-centered, I will adjust my practice to meet your needs while also providing education about different aspects of the therapeutic process. I use techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered therapy, and humanistic therapy. I truly believe we are on a journey together and that I can support you in accomplishing your goals in an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. Taking the first step to sign up for therapy can take courage and I am proud of you for getting started!

I am licensed in Colorado with 14 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, relationship issues, family conflicts, & motivation, self-esteem, and confidence. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Relationships are an important part of the foundation of our lives, both the relationship we have with ourselves, and the relationship we have with others. The relationship we have with ourselves can be challenged by internal conflict, feelings of being stuck, and fears that stops us, causing our lives to be unsatisfying. Since we 'live' in all 3 time periods, the past, present, and future, we want to make sure that our past 'stories' are not interfering in our present lives. And then by understanding what our fears are, we can have a better view of the future. Counseling is an unique opportunity to reconnect with ourselves and others. It's an opportunity to pay attention to parts of ourselves that we try to ignore. It's also an opportunity to have the life that you want and deserve. My clients appreciate my engagement, honesty, and authenticity in our work together. I strive to understand what it's like to 'walk in your shoes' which helps me counsel more effectively. I consider counseling a team effort! I understand that it takes a lot of courage and motivation to begin counseling and talk about yourself. But it's actually the best conversation we can have to understand what's getting in the way.
