Hello, my name is Janeen! I have a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Connecticut, a National Certified Counselor (NCC), and a Life and Health and Wellness Coach. I have 10 years of experience working with adults and adolescents who have experienced trauma and crisis, life changes and relationship issues. I provide a safe and trusting environment for my clients to explore distressing emotions and life’s challenges. You deserve to live a meaningful, joyful and fulfilling life and I believe you have the strengths to achieve this. My role is to be your partner in this journey. My approach is client centered, trauma informed, solution focused, and cognitive behavioral. I am a good listener and am very curious about each of my clients own individual stories. I am a facilitator, helping my clients discover who they are, what they want out of life, and develop skills to cope and conquer their challenges. I help my clients feel in control of their life and feel hopeful. Because every client is unique I use a variety of counseling interventions. I help clients discover what thoughts and limiting beliefs may be holding them back (cognitive behavioral techniques) and help my clients cope with challenges (DBT). I use a trauma informed approach to provide a safe place for my clients to explore emotions and am EMDR trained by the EMDR Institute. I use narrative therapy to help clients write their story and use solution focused approaches to help clients set goals to gain control and move forward in their lives. I look forward to working with you!

24 years offering treatment

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Connecticut. I have been a therapist for 24 years. I have worked as a Director of Social Work in skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes), doctor's offices and at Visiting Nurses while having a private practice. This combination has allowed me to gain insight into how our physical health affects our mental health. I use the approach that one diagnosis or problem does not stand-alone. I assist a client by using a Systems Theory approach. This is done by observing and analyzing all the systems that contribute to an individual's behavior. Together we work on strengthening those systems. Being healthy mentally and physically work together. If the body is not healthy it will directly affect your mental health. I work with my clients and, with their permission; work with their doctors to gain insight into how medications and physical health may be affecting the client's mental health. I hope to be able to help people who want to see the "whole picture". The relationship with the client is one of equality and a give and take of ideas and suggestions. I will often send interesting articles or ask that you do some observation in between sessions. You are important... and I look forward to offering you insight into how to heal and be all you can be. Areas of expertise : Geriatric Social Work *Chronic illness : MS, Parkinsons, ALS, RA, * Being a Caregiver- Ups and downs, Joys and sadness *Aging and coping with age related mental struggles * Financial concerns : paying for a nursing home ( Skilled Nursing Facility /SNF) how to find assistance in the home, State programs to assist *Medicare and Medicaid: educate on how to us both to help remain in your home *Caring for a loved one with Alzheimers and Dementia *Self care when you are a "caregiver" It is a 24 hour a job 7 days /week *Geriatric assessments and goals *Helping clients advocate for the person they love that is in a Skilled Nursing Facility , SNF *FInding the right care for your loved one: at home, in assisted living , or in a Skilled Nursing Facility *End of life, Hospice and anticipatory grief * Diagnosis of Cancer, Where do I go from here?

Hello there! My name is Christina and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in CT. I have been in the mental health field for 9 years and in the customer service field for over 15 years. I have a vast range of experience in different settings with all different types of clients. My experience includes working in: inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient. I have worked with many different types of issues/and disorders such as: depression; anxiety (obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety, phobias, and panic disorder); posttraumiatic stress disorder; trauma; veterans; grief and loss; bipolar; schizophrenia; attentive deficit hyperactive disorder; personality disorders; anger challenges; impulse control challenges; gambling; substance abuse; kleptomania; eating disorders; sex offenders; domestic violence; life transition challenges; and interpersonal relationship challenges. Life can be very challenging and don't we all just wanna feel understood, validated, and supported? My therapy style is empathic, non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. I like to work collaboratively with my clients to identify goals and work together to achieve them by assigning homework. I provide education on topics/disorders when the client does not have knowledge of it in attempts for them to gain more awareness into themselves to live a better quality of life. If we don’t understand something then how can we work on improving it?! I use a combination of approaches such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, strength-based therapy, and reality-based therapy. I believe therapy is a journey and if you are to really benefit from it, it should not be comfortable. With that said, another approach of mine is to challenge and encourage clients to face their fears and work through their difficult emotions/challenges without turning to unhealthy coping skills. This is not an easy task but I will do whatever I can to help support you and help in your journey to attain a better quality of life! I look forward to chatting and working with you. Godspeed!
