Hi there! My name is Chelsea, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in both the states of Georgia and Connecticut. Ever since I was a little girl I can remember always wanting to help others. I was fortunate enough to grow up in a loving home with two caring and supportive parents that always encouraged me no matter what. I have always been so thankful for this, and have a passion for giving others the same support and encouragement that I was able to have throughout my life. I got into this field because I wanted to give back! While pursuing my Bachelors degree in Psychology, my love for Marriage and Family therapy was formed after learning more about individuals, couples, and family systems. I went on to pursue a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, and through my trainings there, I found that this field not only focused on helping individuals, but also focused a lot on an individuals background, the many systems that they are apart of, and the way that these systems can help shape them into the person they are today. I strongly believe that effective therapy includes understanding the world that the individuals you work with are apart of! My earliest experiences in the field consist of working in group home environments with troubled youth and adolescents ages 14-22 presenting with diagnoses like depression, anxiety, A.D.H.D., and also showed some early signs of certain personality disorders like bipolar and borderline, PTSD. I have also worked with youth that have experienced past sexual abuse and physical abuse/neglect by their caregivers. I additionally have 3 years of in home therapy experience working with both youth and families in crisis. I have had opportunity to work with adults ages 18+ in an outpatient setting, as well as in the communities, and in their homes. The adult population that I served presented with issues like anxiety, depression, substance abuse, homelessness, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. My counseling style can be described as warm, interactive, and innovative. My favorite part about the work that I do is being able to watch the individuals that I serve make positive changes right before my eyes! I am a huge encourager, motivator, and especially passionate about supporting individuals through life stage transitions. I am friendly, open, and provide a non-judgmental space. I believe my strongest qualities are patience, empathy, and understanding. I also believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines techniques from models like Strategic, Structural, and Solution Focused therapy, however I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling, happier lifestyle and to take the first steps towards change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to hearing from you soon! -Chelsea

I am a licensed clinical social worker, licensed drug and alcohol counselor, and small business owner. I have been working in the behavioral health field since 2009, and I specialize in the treatment of substance use and addictive disorders, depression and anxiety, as well as eating disorders with a particular aptitude for working with individuals who suffer from binge eating disorder. I consider myself an eclectic treatment provider, well versed in cognitive behavioral (CBT), dialectical behavioral (DBT), Inner Child, Seeking Safety, Motivational Interviewing, and Narrative therapies. I am passionate about connecting with clients based on their unique needs as I do not believe in a one size fits all method but instead like to determine what approach will fit best based on a person's strengths and individualized goals. In most recent years, I have acquired the additional titles of wife, mother, and elder millennial and found that my personal experience with major life transitions has helped inform my work and allowed for a bit of humble humor to make its way into my approach. Overall, I am very much a people person, I get energy from being around others and therefore helping those in need has become my life's work and I couldn't imagine it any other way.

I believe that every personality trait that comprises our identity can manifest in many different behaviors. Some behaviors can be helpful while others may have been helpful in crisis or extreme stress until they stop being helpful. My goal in therapy is to understand how unhelpful behaviors correspond with personality traits and to help my clients find more helpful behaviors to use instead of the ones that are no longer working for them. I am enthusiastic about being strength's based which means I strive to understand how unhelpful behaviors have been helpful in the past because I understand these behaviors as part of survival instincts. I also believe that our biggest strengths are our biggest weakness and our biggest weaknesses are our biggest strengths. The result of all these beliefs is that my therapeutic rapport is non-judgmental and collaborative. I can tend towards a more reflective rather than directive style and I'm open to incorporating more guidance if needed. I'm experienced in psychodynamic approaches, mindfulness, attachment theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have experience working with children/teens and families with intergenerational trauma and adults with acute mental health conditions requiring higher levels of care than outpatient therapy. Much like a doctor - I've seen it all and there is nothing a patient could say or do that I haven't experienced. If you're looking for someone who can accept you where you're at and help you to make the changes that you want in your life I'm a good choice. Please Note: I will ask any client reporting passive suicidal ideation and/or self harm to follow a safety plan including regular discussion about their self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. I use evidence based methods to decrease the frequency and severity of self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. If you are reporting thoughts, plan, and intent to harm yourself or others I will work with you to make sure you can get evaluated for your safety.
