Christina Chykirda
Hello there! My name is Christina and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in CT. I have been in the mental health field for 9 years and in the customer service field for over 15 years. I have a vast range of experience in different settings with all different types of clients. My experience includes working in: inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient. I have worked with many different types of issues/and disorders such as: depression; anxiety (obsessive-compulsive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety, phobias, and panic disorder); posttraumiatic stress disorder; trauma; veterans; grief and loss; bipolar; schizophrenia; attentive deficit hyperactive disorder; personality disorders; anger challenges; impulse control challenges; gambling; substance abuse; kleptomania; eating disorders; sex offenders; domestic violence; life transition challenges; and interpersonal relationship challenges. Life can be very challenging and don't we all just wanna feel understood, validated, and supported? My therapy style is empathic, non-judgmental, supportive, and interactive. I like to work collaboratively with my clients to identify goals and work together to achieve them by assigning homework. I provide education on topics/disorders when the client does not have knowledge of it in attempts for them to gain more awareness into themselves to live a better quality of life. If we don’t understand something then how can we work on improving it?! I use a combination of approaches such as: cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, strength-based therapy, and reality-based therapy. I believe therapy is a journey and if you are to really benefit from it, it should not be comfortable. With that said, another approach of mine is to challenge and encourage clients to face their fears and work through their difficult emotions/challenges without turning to unhealthy coping skills. This is not an easy task but I will do whatever I can to help support you and help in your journey to attain a better quality of life! I look forward to chatting and working with you. Godspeed!

Kevin Farrell
My name is Kevin Farrell and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California (#22616). I have almost 20 years experience as a Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist. I previously had a successful career in media and in my mid-30s I returned to school to obtain a Masters Degree in Social Work in order to find a more rewarding career path for myself. As a Psychotherapist, I have worked with a wide variety of adults and I use a range of therapeutic tools. I view therapy as a partnership and for me the most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic alliance, which refers to the quality and strength of the collaborative relationship between client and therapist. This is strongest when there is agreement on goals and objectives. I work closely with each client to establish goals and achieve a strong alliance built on mutual trust. I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy with reliance on core theoretical concepts from Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Existential Therapy, among others. I tend to emphasize solution-focused strategies that assist a client in understanding themselves, improving their problem-solving/coping techniques, and building resiliency for future challenges. I seek ongoing feedback and collaboration with clients to evaluate and improve a client's experience in therapy. I have been told that my non-judgmental style engages people and they find me respectful, sincere, and easy to relate to. My primary goal with clients is to successfully address a client's challenges in order to improve overall quality of life.

Through improving our ability to communicate, we strengthen the bonds in our relationships. First, we must engage in honest, self-reflection by examining and distinguishing our needs and wants. Once we have gained greater self-awareness, we can then focus on communicating with our partners and family members through respectful talking, listening, and reflection. It is through improved understanding that we create fertile ground for growth and development. As both a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Mental Health Counselor I provide therapy to individuals, couples, and families. In addition, I completed training as a family specialist in LEND (Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities) through WIHD (Westchester Institute for Human Development) and New York Medical College. In my 15 plus years of experience, I have counseled individuals, couples, and families regarding communication issues, parenting skills, and coping with anxiety within the family. I am trained in the areas of special needs, transition, college and careers. I am the creator of Transition Boot Camp that was featured in The Journal News and Arclight Magazine. In addition, I reserve the right to decline referrals if I feel that the client is best served by another counselor.
