Welcome!!! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, in the state of Connecticut, with 26 years’ experience, assisting individuals of all ages with personal, social & emotional health. I work with people struggling with anxiety, stress, depression, self-esteem, social issues, motivation and parenting. My counseling style is very down to earth, reality-based, and client centered. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to help individuals learn more positive and productive coping skills and techniques for handling what life throws at us. We can explore the connection between your thoughts, feelings and behaviors, in order to understand how our negative thought patterns can contribute to our problems, and then we will develop strategies to combat them. I pride myself on being caring, warm, encouraging, a great listener, non-judgmental, authentic, skilled, patient and extremely supportive. I provide a genuine, safe and caring atmosphere for you to feel comfortable sharing, and trusting that I have your best interest at heart. I am passionate about using my experience and education, to help others learn how to reach their maximum potential to live a productive, positive, and happier life. It takes a lot of courage to reach out for help, you have made the first step. Now let me help you with the next steps for improving your life. In order to make therapy more convenient and accessible, I offer a very flexible schedule, with evening and weekend time slots available, when requested. I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Welcome to Better Help. Your journey into self-care has begun with your efforts to find a solution for change. Please let me introduce myself. I am Lisa Richardson a licensed mental health counselor for the past 10 years with a license in Florida - MH11228, and in Connecticut - LPC001923. I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional. My counseling degree is a Masters of Arts in Art Therapy from Albertus Magnus College. I have a private practice in Florida which opened in 2015, before, I have worked at community mental health facilities in Connecticut and Florida. I work with a diverse population employing an eclectic approach based on humanistic person-centered therapy. Working collaboratively with my clients, we explore their emotional needs to better understand the personal challenges that bring them to therapy. Together we use this insight to identify solutions and develop coping skills to improve the client’s ability to manage stress and to increase positive feelings of emotional wellbeing. Our therapy sessions will include mindfulness techniques, positive regard, creative expression when words are not enough, and trauma-based techniques. Clients that I have worked with sought help to manage their feelings of anxiety, depression, poor self-esteem, and other challenges including the parent-child relationship, focus and concentration, and trauma symptoms. Thank you for stopping by, Lisa

I am a clinical social worker, licensed in the states of California, Connecticut and Maine. For more than a decade I have worked with racially, economically, sexually, and culturally diverse persons who struggle with issues and conditions related to trauma. I believe that the effective healing journey is unique, authentic, and addresses the whole person: mind, body and spirit. To this end, I apply knowledge and experience from several related professional trainings [clinical social work, clinical trauma professional, certified mental health integrative medicine professional lifestyle medicine professional and certified personal trainer, and ordained minister] to counsel and coach clients in gaining awareness, understanding, and skills to manage and transform the distressing thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are the consequences of adverse and/or traumatic experiences; and that are interfering with them living a healthy, well-functioning life. I engage evidence-based therapeutic approaches that integrate traditional, holistic, and creative client-centered therapeutic processes and interventions to help clients overcome limiting, self-defeating thoughts and feelings about self-worth, relationships and choices that underlie distress and dysfunction.

I believe that every personality trait that comprises our identity can manifest in many different behaviors. Some behaviors can be helpful while others may have been helpful in crisis or extreme stress until they stop being helpful. My goal in therapy is to understand how unhelpful behaviors correspond with personality traits and to help my clients find more helpful behaviors to use instead of the ones that are no longer working for them. I am enthusiastic about being strength's based which means I strive to understand how unhelpful behaviors have been helpful in the past because I understand these behaviors as part of survival instincts. I also believe that our biggest strengths are our biggest weakness and our biggest weaknesses are our biggest strengths. The result of all these beliefs is that my therapeutic rapport is non-judgmental and collaborative. I can tend towards a more reflective rather than directive style and I'm open to incorporating more guidance if needed. I'm experienced in psychodynamic approaches, mindfulness, attachment theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I have experience working with children/teens and families with intergenerational trauma and adults with acute mental health conditions requiring higher levels of care than outpatient therapy. Much like a doctor - I've seen it all and there is nothing a patient could say or do that I haven't experienced. If you're looking for someone who can accept you where you're at and help you to make the changes that you want in your life I'm a good choice. Please Note: I will ask any client reporting passive suicidal ideation and/or self harm to follow a safety plan including regular discussion about their self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. I use evidence based methods to decrease the frequency and severity of self-destructive thoughts and behaviors. If you are reporting thoughts, plan, and intent to harm yourself or others I will work with you to make sure you can get evaluated for your safety.

"And acceptance is the answer to all my problems today. When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing, or situation - some fact of my life - unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing, or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment. Nothing, absolutely nothing, happens in God's world by mistake. Until... [and] unless I accept Life completely on Life's terms, I cannot be happy. I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and my attitudes." - Alcoholics Anonymous, Fourth Edition. Hello! My name is Jayson Brunelle. As a Licensed Professional Counselor in Connecticut, I've provided evidence-based Clinical Mental Health, Addiction, and Christian / Pastoral Counseling services for over a decade. I specialize in treating the whole person - mind, body, and soul. Consequently, in addition to the myriad tried-and-true psychotherapeutic techniques that have become essential to the best practices of the science and the art of healing - methods such as active listening, motivational interviewing, elements of Psychodynamic techniques, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT); and Behavioral Therapies based on Operant and Classical Conditioning, I additionally presuppose the veracity of a Christo-centric theological anthropology, which sees each human Person, most fundamentally, as a "body-soul composite." Furthermore, in both my personal and professional experience, the 12-step Model of Recovery has proven itself to be nothing short of miraculous in the treatment and recovery of otherwise treatment-resistant individuals. The 12-Step approach has its roots in the Oxford Movement of the early Twentieth Century (which included such prestigious minds as Carl Jung, C.S. Lewis, and J.R.R. Tolkien), which itself has its roots in Judeo-Christian Scriptural principles and traditions. Many have re-discovered the Truth, Goodness, and Beauty contained in the pages of the Word of God, which is "Ever ancient, ever new." It has been the great honor of my life to have been of some small assistance to my clients, many of whom have either fully overcome, or at least regained no insignificant degree of control over their lives, in their fight to overcoming such debilitating conditions as clinical depression, bipolar, anxiety, panic attacks, social anxiety, PTSD, obsessive and compulsive disorders, low self-esteem, substance and process addictions, maladaptive behaviors, procrastination, lack of confidence, identity issues, and more! Therapy belongs to the client, and for that reason, the therapist/counselor has a personal and professional obligation to provide, facilitate, and foster a safe, open, and entirely judgment-free zone wherein all clients should feel and experience the safety of confiding in a trusted, professional confidante, who prizes the client for whom s/he is; not for what s/he has or has not done. We are human beings, not human doings! It takes great courage to seek a better, happier, and more fulfilling way of life; consequently, I applaud you! It has been said, "When folks get sick and tired of being sick and tired, they become ready to make changes and to try on new ideas, behaviors, and emotions." Should you choose to begin therapy with me, please know what an honor it will be for me to accompany and support you on your journey of self-exploration and personal growth.
