HI, my name is Heather. I have experienced the benefits of counseling personally, and I understand the courage it takes to make the decision to take that first step, especially if the concept is new to you. My goal is to provide a comfortable and supportive environment for you. I work in a very empathic and non-judgmental manner. l I have worked in health care most of my life-first as an RN, and later as a Nurse Practitioner. I realized that many of my patients were struggling with stress, anxiety and depression, so I decided to become educated as a Psychotherapist. Since that time, I have been able to help many people suffering with these issues as well as those with PTSD. I have worked with people with traumas including those who have been sexually abused or assaulted. I use several therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, rapid resolution therapy, solution focused therapy and person centered therapy. I am also trained and certified as a life coach, which is helpful for people working on career goals as well as health issues and weight loss. Actually this is very helpful for everyone who wants to make positive changes in their life. If you feel stuck where you are in life, and want to move ahead, Coaching can help with that.

My name is Carol Williams, and I am a therapist who is experienced in creatively integrating research, knowledge, observation, and lived experience to produce wisdom that understands what is not said when trying to express the inexpressible. I specialize in working with ways to understand, heal and release the parts of trauma, grief, anxiety, and PTSD that are harmful, while at the same time valuing the parts that provided insight and wisdom that is gained through struggle. I utilize various techniques, all of which are anchored in quieting the noise in our mind so we can hear that inner voice that acts as our compass. I do encourage holistic techniques that factor in breathing, health, and meditation. Therapy is one way to turn down the noise and listen to our inner voice. I have worked with people from diverse walks of life throughout my career, each with an individuated narrative that also has shared themes of human struggle. Insight is powerful, but we all have blind spots due to having our own biases with ourselves. Having clarity also depends on myriad but informed perspectives that can help remove blockages that impede clarity which, in turn, generates better decisions. Better decisions equal healthier effects in life. I learn so much from the people I work with, as I believe in the collaborative approach that reveals answers that have been there but are weighed down by stress, pain, and fear. If answers can’t be reached, then excellent questions that deepen the quality of our pursuits are just as important. Choosing the right therapist is a vital decision that influences the direction of that growth.

Never has mental health support been needed more than it does today. I see the stress people are under at work, at home, in school, and it is so clear to me that they need someone to talk to, someone who can offer a healthy perspective, someone who can suggest alternatives that can help people cope with the pressures of daily living, and their reactions to it. My personal mission is to find coping mechanisms for the patients in my care. In the 17 years since I earned my Masters Degree in Psychology at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, and the 13 years since I earned my license as a mental health counselor in Florida, I have worked hard to help people deal with their emotional reactions to their personal situations. Drug abuse, suicide ideation, anxiety and anger can be very harmful reactions to their perceptions and assessment of the problems they face. I am trained in treating with a variety of diagnoses including trauma, substance abuse, ADHD, bipolar disorder and other mental health diagnoses. I take great personal satisfaction when I can help make a difference in someone’s life. Their success is my reward. I have found that young people respond best when they believe I am listening, when they believe I can actually help them cope so that the problems they have no longer seem insurmountable. Younger children often open up during play therapy. Most of my career has been focused on children. But helping children always involves helping their families, their teachers and bringing in adult support. In the process, I have provided therapy and guidance to adults whose pressures and diagnoses have such tremendous impact on the children whose lives they touch. In my years as a mental health counselor, I have successfully treated a variety of diagnoses, working in patients’ homes, in teletherapy, and in office visits. I have treated people in in-patient hospital settings. I have been called by local police departments when a dangerous crisis has erupted and been successful getting the patient into treatment. I have been published in the local newspapers in an effort to generate awareness and help remove the stigma of mental health issues. There is so much more that needs to be done to help people with mental health issues, and I very much want to continue my efforts to be part of the solution.
