I start with the assumption that every human being has a purpose and the ability to be a productive member of society. I believe that we all have an optimal self and that it is helpful to have someone act as a mirror and a support to keep moving toward that optimal self. I primarily utilize the practice of neuropsychotherapy, although this approach leaves room for most other theories under its umbrella. My approach often employs the theory and techniques of Person-Centered, Cognitive-Behavioral, Adlerian, and Existential therapies. I believe in a healthy mind, body, and soul, and in that vein, I provide counseling in spiritual matters tailored to each client’s personal beliefs. I am proud of my formal education, and I obviously could not do this work without it. However, the key to my ability to help others has always been the education I’ve garnered through my own life experiences. I draw on both of these influences as appropriate.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with 27 years of experience. I utilize several different therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Neuro Linguistic Programming. Humor is something else I often use in therapy. I provide brief psychotherapy, usually lasting no more than eight sessions. My job is to give you some tools to help you along your journey, and then get out of your way. My hope is that I can help you learn to cope with life's roadblocks and realize your dreams. I'm going to be honest. If you are looking to spend five years in therapy exploring everything that ever happened to you and trying to figure out who you are, I'm not your guy. I'm sure there are plenty of therapists on Better Help that will help you with that. No hard feelings:-).

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I provide evidence-based therapy rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help individuals better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My approach is warm, collaborative, and goal-oriented, designed to support you in identifying unhelpful thought patterns, building coping skills, and making meaningful, lasting changes. In our work together, I will help you recognize how your thoughts influence your emotions and actions. Counseling is a process where we can work together to bring about change or help you adjust to change that has been forced upon you, with the ultimate goal of improving your quality of life. I am also designated as an adoption competent therapist. I enjoy working with adoptive parents, adults who were adopted, as well as, my personal heroes, the birth mothers. I have also completed training to use Eye Movement, Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With training in both Social Work and Accounting, I am particularly well equipped to help families as they navigate through financial challenges and deal with the relational issues that these challenges may raise. And then there is life and sometimes it is just hard. As Mr. Rogers said, “Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” I believe that I can be that person you can trust. I never want to think of anybody being alone, holding on what they’ve been told is unmentionable. As a friend of mine says, “Life is not a dress rehearsal.” We don’t get a do-over. Let’s work together to make the most of it! So, contact me and let’s get together and see if I am someone who you are comfortable with. I’d love to help.
