I have been doing counseling for over 35 years. When I lived in Pennsylvania, I worked as a school counselor in a high school for 28 years and also maintained a private practice. Since moving to Florida, I worked in a private practice in which I specialized in both adolescents and adults. I also work with families and couples. I worked at Better Help before and formed many successful relationships with clients. I consider myself to be an eclectic counselor who is genuine, supportive, and empathetic. I have been in therapy many times and definitely understand how helpful it can be to have someone who is in your corner, advocating and believing solely in you. I consider myself liberal and non-judgmental and I would be surprised if there was something you could tell me that I have not heard before, I also have a strong sense of humor and know that humor has saved me many times from my own issues. I received my Master's degree in 1980 in Marriage, family, and Child Counseling, but I consider that my life experience just as important in having added to my counseling skills. Many counselors can learn from books, but I incorporate all I have learned in my own life experience into the work I do with clients. Let's talk.

What would it feel like to be heard, to know that you are valued and cared about and to believe that there is real hope for your future? Are you struggling, anxious, grieving, overwhelmed? You are not alone. Life is really hard right now. You deserve self care and support. Difficult and painful experiences can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. I offer you a safe place to talk about and explore all those concerns. Together we will identify specific issues and needs to establish achievable goals. Working collaboratively throughout the counseling and coaching process, we will continuously evaluate your progress as you become stronger and more confident in all of your life decisions. From me you can expect warmth, empathy, humor and the use of practical tools that you can start applying right away. I will bring to every session an earnest desire to facilitate your growth and healing and will walk alongside you so that you never feel alone. I work with individual clients and couples from all walks of life. I have more than 18 years of counseling experience specializing in depression, anxiety, trauma recovery, grief and loss and lifestyle adjustments. The focus of your treatment with me will be YOU - and not the application of particular therapeutic philosophies or modalities. Understanding your treatment goals or helping you sort that out if you are unsure, or assisting with whatever struggles you are facing will be my role as your therapist. I have over 25 years of experience in the mental health field and I look forward to listening to you and understanding you, which is a collaborative process. I am a graduate of the clinical social work program at New York University. Over the years I have devoted a considerable amount of my professional energy to working with the most underserved and disenfranchised populations among us, while also building my experience working with mainstream adults struggling to find their purpose and what brings them the most fulfillment, contentment, and daily happiness. I am a strong proponent of a focus on gratitude and mindfulness and making the most of each day, regardless of our circumstances. I look forward to getting to know you and doing my best to assist you in meeting your therapy goals !

My approach to therapy is direct and I like to jump right in. Sessions can be emotionally draining, but they can also be extremely rewarding. You will begin to experience things differently and see the possibilities before you that you may never have before considered. Therapy can be the greatest gift you ever give to yourself--and to those with whom you have a relationship. Learning to understand why you think, behave, interact, and love the way you do is transformative. This insight and knowledge gives you the power to direct your own life, make your own choices, and do so with confidence. Perhaps it is time to work with a professional. If you think you might like working with me or if you'd like to visit to see if we would be a good fit, please reach out. Thanks, and I hope to speak with you soon.

I am a marriage and family therapist who is licensed to practice in the beautiful states of Hawaii, Florida, and South Carolina. For the last 13 years, I have been working with clients from incredibly varied backgrounds dealing with a wide range of concerns. My most frequent work has been with people struggling with substance use issues, anxiety, trauma, depression, grief, and interpersonal and family relationship concerns. When I was 17, my mother passed away and I struggled with the grief and life-changes that followed. I sought the help of a marriage and family therapist and it was through her compassion and wisdom that I was able to navigate this difficult time. This therapist inspired me to want to help others in the way I had been helped and so I began my extensive studies in the world of marriage and family therapy. Over the last 20 years, I have learned and drawn from such modalities as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Structural Family Therapy. Just as my family had to encourage me to seek treatment after the death of my mother, I want to encourage you to reach out to someone who can help you with whatever you are struggling with. If that person is me, I would be honored to listen to your concerns and work with you to achieve a positive outcome.

How am I supposed to watch college football and not drink beer? "It just feels like nothing is going to be ok and I don't know why." These are examples of things that I not only hear from patients and clients but that I have experienced myself. I know the feeling of dreading lying down to try to go to sleep. Feeling disconnected from, and scared of your world but trying to do your best to get things done is no way to go through life. The only way out is through, but how does one "go through"? That is where good counseling becomes invaluable. I used to believe that knowledge would solve my own mental health issues but I now know that knowing is only a small part of healing. The art of learning how to change requires much more than just knowledge or a degree. Knowing what questions to ask, what someone can handle, and giving an actionable item every session are ways that I can help you. I know it's tough, but the best way to get better is to meet issues head-on with the help of someone who not only knows therapy techniques but has been where you are. When someone shares about their anxiety or struggles with drinking, I can feel their angst and I know what works and what doesn't. I've experienced career anxiety and existential crisis that led me to become a therapist in my 40's after a successful career in music. I am a licensed mental health counselor in the state of Florida with both inpatient and outpatient clinical experience with couples individuals and couples with issues ranging from anxiety and depression to substance use, to grieving the loss of a pet. If you feel like you just "can't get right", please reach out.
