I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida . I practice a multifaceted approach of: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution Based Theray, and Existentialism. I tailor treatment to the client’s needs allowing for individualized care. My counseling style is open and provides clients an area where they can explore the root of their current distress with no judgement and a sense of ease. My aim as your counselor is to allow you to put down the emotional baggage you have been carrying around and be free of that weight. I will help my clients navigate stressful decisions and/or situations in a safe environment. Together, we will focus on identifying your strengths and helping you to maximize them to overcome your obstacles. I'm here to help you sort through the things that are difficult right now, and offer you a safe place to be open and honest without fear of judgment. I encourage mindfulness techniques in my practice (i.e. meditation, deep breathing exercises, yoga, etc.) I am holistic in my approach and tailor therapy to the client’s needs. That said, I also believe in the power of medicine ( psychiatry), and have seen first hand the benefits of medicine, in conjunction with therapy, have for an individual. The ultimate goal of my style of counseling is to leave the client with a sense of security in their abilities to cope with life and to ultimately be happier and their own healer. Counseling can be just as important as physical exercise in terms of a mental workout. If you plan to have an impact in this world or just live your life, then you will most likely experience stress and negative emotions as a part of life. It is not only brave but healthy to seek out help as we all need it and are not immune to the trials that life puts in our way. A lot of life is out of our control but we find ways to react to it that allow us to thrive. I studied at the University of Central Florida earning a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and at Nova Southeastern University where I earned a Master's in Mental Health Counseling. I spent a majority of my undergraduate degree studying and working in the anxiety clinic and the media and migrations lab on campus. There I participated in research designed to help alleviate anxiety symptoms and specific phobias. While earning my Master's degree I worked with at risk youths and young adults who were exposed to high degrees of stress. My post- graduate work was spent working with adults who suffered with addiction and mental health disorders. I worked with ages ranging from 9 to 60+ years of age throughout the past 12 years. A majority of my experience is in: stress management, depression, anxiety, constant worry, guilt, shame, fear, and life changes. Once we decide to work together, I will challenge you to consider the areas in your life that are harmful to your mental health and how to begin to change them in order to live a healthier and happier way. Counseling doesn’t have to have a long time frame, and healing can happen faster once we harness your already built skill set in session. I am looking forward to helping you find the peace and/or path you are looking for to live the life you want. You are taking the first in healing, I know it’s not easy, but I am here to help you . You don’t have to go this alone.

Dear Future Clients, Looking for a therapist? These words should come to mind: CARING, COMPETENT, COMPASSIONATE, COURTEOUS, CONFIDENT, NON-JUDGMENTAL, ACCEPTING, and FLEXIBLE. These are just a few of my best qualifications when working with clients of all ages, race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and those who demonstrate multiple issues. So, let me tell you a bit about myself. I began my professional career as a teacher, because I loved working with students and families. I wanted to make a change in the world, by helping others learn and gain acceptance by all. Discovering that students come from all different, diversified backgrounds and multiple family situations, I continued my studies and became a Behavioral Specialist. So many educators were diagnosing and labeling students. I found this disturbing as I believe that no child is born evil, stupid, crazy, or bad. Rather, I believe individuals are affected by the family and environmental systems of which they are members. Therefore, I continued my studies in the field of Family Systemic Therapy and completed my degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. I began working as a Licensed Family Therapist in the Florida School Systems, Church Programs and Private Practice. I utilize the method of therapy which best suits the clientele. Some of these include but are not limited to Client-Centered, Solution Focused, Narrative, Play, Brief Strategical, Problem-Solving and Cognitive Behavioral Therapies. My career experiences opened my eyes to the many diversified situations that children, teens, adults, and families are exposed to each and every day. Something new always pops up and seems to shake up a person’s life, and you just need someone to listen and understand the situations that are affecting your life. As an Educator, Behavioral Specialist and a Licensed Family Therapist, I have worked with many different clients. No problem is too big or too small. My degrees are a Bachelors of Arts in Education and French, and a Masters in Science in the field of Family Therapy. My Professional Teaching Certificate includes Endorsements in working with ESOL (English as a Second Language) individuals, Gifted or Highly Gifted Individuals, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Multiple Behavioral Disorders. I have over 30 years of Professional Experience. I myself grew up in a large Irish-German, Catholic family with five sisters where perfection was expected. This caused many internal family issues, which I now understand because of my training. Also, my mother was an orphan who grew up in a New York City Orphanage before being placed in a loving foster home. Yet, the family did not want to adopt her and thus she suffered from anxiety, depression, and feelings of inadequacy for her entire life. She also struggled with alcoholism and I was given the responsibility to care for my dear mother and wait for her to come home when she walked out in the middle of the night. I learned compassion at an early age and knew I always wanted to help others either in the Peace Corps or here in the United States. My mother’s foster family spoke French and thus I majored in French in college, studying at Immaculata University in Pennsylvania, Laval University in Quebec, Canada and study abroad programs in Paris, and Normandy, France. Now, I am a mother of three married adult children, grandmother to seven beautiful grandkids, and wife of 46 years to a wonderful husband. However, I suffered from Depression and Generalized Anxiety, after the birth of my second child. Of course, everyone told me to “Just Get Over It.” Luckily, I found a wonderful psychiatrist of Indian descent who changed my life forever. In fact, my kind, qualified psychiatrist encouraged me to further my studies and become a Family Therapist……and that is where I am today. If you are touched by my story and feel I could help you, it would be my pleasure and honor to be your therapist. While I do speak French, because there are so many different dialects, all my sessions are in English. However, we can use French when a certain word(s) gets us stuck, so we can use French-English. Thank you for taking the time to read my Profile. I would love to work with you, because YOU are important to me.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Mangonia Park counselor?

Before seeing your Mangonia Park therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Mangonia Park therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Mangonia Park licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Mangonia Park counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Mangonia Park, Florida can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Mangonia Park has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
