I have been working with clients for over 30 years to help them make better choices so that they can be happier and more content, realize what strengths and good qualities they already posses, and to add coping behaviors to build upon those positive attributes. I utilize a variety of approaches that focus on the present and coping with current stressors, as well as identifying when any past issues needs to be addressed further to free up one’s energy to move in the direction they would like to go. I like to identify practical, manageable, as well as possible changes with my clients that can be reached by making changes they have control over - in small steps or leaps, respecting the pace a client wants. I include some practical coping behaviors from CBT, assertiveness and boundary setting, mindfulness and DBT types of treatment, as well as evaluating life style choices when changes in self care that may be advisable (but up to the client, of course). I also keep in mind the bigger picture of a client’s background and current life situation. For example, making changes in the middle of a pandemic may need a somewhat different focus, as well as with other life events like illness, divorce, moving, etc. I have worked with clients from young adulthood to elderly and of various ethnicities with respecting individual, family, and cultural values and issues. I am always willing to learn more from an individual’s experiences and welcome feedback as we work together In their counseling. I am available for morning and afternoon sessions

From the first breath of life to the last, relationship with others is a living passion. When relating becomes dysfunctional, life is turned inside out and upside down. Through practiced clinical skills, client sensitivity, and compassion born through faith, the therapeutic approach I bring to clients can foster a life-balance of living, loving, and relating once again, or for the first time ever. It can be a difficult task. I am here to help make it easier. In addition to a normal practice of building healthy relationships and families, I also specialize in working with children and adolescents experiencing trauma and crisis. I also provide Prolonged Exposure Therapy for adults suffering with PTSD resulting from domestic violence, sexual abuse, combat, or first responder situations. Efficacy of treatment is validated and enhanced in my practice through purposeful utilization of quality assessment tools. These tools help take the guess work out of diagnosis and treatment, and help facilitate a brief therapy approach, reducing therapeutic involvement and investment from months of work to a matter of weeks. On a personal note, I have been married for 46 years and have two wonderful adult children and two fabulous grandsons! I hold a Master of Church Music degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a Master of Psychology Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Palm Beach Atlantic University. I have a pet cat named Soxy, who loves me as much as I love her!

Asking for help can be really tough—sometimes, it feels nearly impossible. Admitting to yourself that you need help? Even harder. I get it. I've been in some pretty dark, cold, and scary places, and acknowledging that I was hurt and needed help wasn’t easy. It was a real battle, one that many people try to avoid. The truth is, anyone who’s alive is facing some kind of struggle, big or small. The difference is that a lot of people get really good at hiding it, putting on a front, or working non-stop to keep up the image of what they think they should be, or what they want others to see—and that’s exhausting. The alternative often feels like “sucking it up,” “pressing on,” or “suffering in silence” to avoid feeling like a “burden” or disturbing others. Many people remain lost and stuck, because they refuse to admit to themselves that they are in fact, lost and stuck and need help. Is there something you’re avoiding? Something you’re not sure how to handle, plan for, or communicate? Something you’re struggling to let go of—or maybe something you need to say goodbye to? Or even something you know you should be saying hello to? Life can be unpredictable, and for many of us, going through the motions on autopilot feels like the safest option—until it’s not. I’m here to challenge you to switch off that autopilot and take a more active role in your thoughts, feelings, perceptions, and actions. It’s easier—and often more comfortable—to just let life happen to you. But if you’re after real, lasting change, the first and oftentimes the most difficult step is simply deciding. Deciding to engage. Deciding to embrace the discomfort. Deciding to put the mask down and be real. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with a number of certifications and specialized trainings. With over 10 years of experience in a range of clinical and service roles—from clinical administration, supervision, and mentoring to direct psychotherapy in nonprofit organizations, correctional facilities, private practice, and now with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs—I’ve seen firsthand that change is possible and that there is always hope for a better tomorrow. When you're ready...decide...then let's get to work!

I have a passionate commitment to provide each client with the approach and strategies that will best ensure they acquire their desired goals, prioritizing expeditious relief from unwanted symptoms. A major reason psychological pain is prolonged is because its causes remain elusive to the sufferer. Relief occurs as we discover and address their causes. Often, this only occurs in a special relationship where we feel comfortable discussing sensitive, confusing and painful issues. If efforts toward relief fail without this special relationship, as they typically do, each disappointment expands a threatening belief that we are beyond help. I lived with this threatening belief into midlife, until finding my special relationship with an extraordinary therapist. This experience played a critical role in my becoming a therapist to discover my vocational passion. In my years as a therapist, I have been honored to partner with a wide diversity of clients, facilitate their progress and witness so many of their life-affirming changes. I listen with compassion and a professional curiosity to sympathetically understand from the client's perspective. I place the highest importance on maintaining privacy and being free of moral judgment. I nourish hope, facilitate the client's discovering their unique path out of pain and into greater wholeness, for control over symptoms and toward the life they most authentically want. While having a psychodynamic orientation, I utilize many cognitive-behavioral strategies within a person-centered framework that prioritizes the client-therapist relationship. I have specific knowledge, experience and developed skills working with men, adolescents males, recent mothers, mother's with adolescent boys, gender specific issues, mature/older men and women, gay and lesbian issues, and with transgendered clients. While successful in treating a wide range of mental health problems in adults and adolescents, I have specialized training and experience treating individuals with trauma, depression, mood, personality, substance-abuse, co-occurring disorders and with men's issues.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in sunny South Florida, I've been lucky to work with individuals facing addiction and mental health challenges for over five years. I earned my master's degree in social work from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, where I gained valuable experience in providing individual and group therapy services for the treatment of substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions at all levels of care. My approach is client-centered, and I tailor my techniques to meet your unique needs. Whether we connect via phone, or chat, my goal is to support you in achieving your mental health and wellness goals. My experience has prepared me to help with a variety of issues, such as anxiety, depression, codependency, career-related concerns, trauma, and grief and loss. I'm dedicated to creating a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space where you can feel at ease exploring your struggles and working toward positive change. I understand that finding the right therapist and the right mode of communication is crucial for effective therapy. While many clients prefer live video sessions, I want to assure you that phone calls and live chat can be equally effective, especially if you’re waiting for a therapist to become available. 1. **Flexibility and Convenience**: Phone calls and live chat sessions offer greater flexibility, allowing you to connect with me from anywhere, whether you’re at home, at work, or on the go. This can be particularly helpful if you have a busy schedule or limited access to a private space for video calls. 2. **Immediate Support**: Sometimes, waiting for a video session can delay the support you need. With phone calls and live chat, you can receive timely assistance and continue your therapeutic progress without interruption. 3. **Comfort and Privacy**: Some clients find it easier to open up and discuss sensitive topics without the pressure of being on camera. Phone calls and live chat provide a level of anonymity that can make it easier to express your thoughts and feelings. 4. **Effective Communication**: Research has shown that the therapeutic relationship and the quality of communication are more important than the mode of delivery. Phone and chat sessions allow us to build a strong, trusting relationship and work effectively towards your goals. **Let’s Get Started** If you’re ready to take the next step, I’m here to help. Feel free to reach out and schedule a session. Together, we can find the best way to communicate and work towards your well-being.
