Perry is powerhouse for wrestling, with its high school historically having one of the most successful programs in the United States. This sport requires grappling, throws, and takedowns – do you ever feel like you’re in a wrestling match with any personal issues in your life?
Just like a coach who guides and supports an athlete, a mental health counselor does much the same thing. Counseling allows individuals to evaluate where they’ve been and determine how to get to where they want to be. If you’re wrestling with something in your life, work with a Perry- area therapist who can help you “pin” the problem down and find a resolution that works for you.

Kathleen Nealon
Welcome! As a therapist, I see my role as one of accompaniment, which is walking with an individual during a difficult time in a person's journey. My work is to listen well and do my best to understand a person's situation so that I can be a supportive presence, empowering the individual to move towards a greater sense of well-being. Since one size does not fit all, I draw from a variety of theoretical approaches and strategies based on the needs, preferences, and personality of the individual as well as my understanding of best practices. Some of the approaches I draw from frequently include psycho-dynamic, systems, solution-focused, cognitive behavioral, and motivational interviewing. In general, my approach emphasizes the therapeutic relationship, is strength-based and trauma-informed. For more than 12 years, I have had the privilege of working with people of all ages, from many different cultures and socio-economic circumstances. I've accompanied young mothers, people living on the streets of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, women, children and young adults in transitional housing due to homelessness, people in various stages of the (addiction) recovery process and hospice patients and their families. I have lived and worked cross-culturally spending a total of five years in Haiti. My undergraduate degree in special education, as well as my experiences and training, have prepared me well to accompany individuals who learn differently, think differently or are wired differently than the average person. Many of the people I have worked with have experienced trauma in its many different forms including natural disaster, oppression due to economic and social injustice, domestic violence, and various forms of abuse. I have worked successfully with people desiring a supportive presence during a life transition or loss as well as those who have struggled with multiple major challenges for much of their lives. If you are seeking a compassionate therapist to walk with you at this time in your life journey, I invite you to contact me to determine if I am the therapist for you. Whether you choose to work with me or another therapist, I wish you the best as you journey toward greater healing and wholeness because your life and happiness are important.
