Many of us experience mental health concerns at some point in our lives, and therapy can be a beneficial way to navigate challenging situations and build healthy coping skills. When it comes to finding a therapist, Savannah, GA can offer more variety than many surrounding rural and suburban areas, but getting the right counseling services can be a challenge, even in a populous metropolitan area.
One of the roadblocks can be that there are a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches in psychotherapy, and they may be more or less effective depending on what mental health challenge they are addressing. For example, a provider that specializes in binge eating disorder or other eating disorders isn’t typically going to be the right therapist for someone who is looking for drug evaluations or for help with chemical dependency. The kind of therapy that you need may not be readily available in your area. Or the therapist may not be in network or taking new patients.
This is where online therapy through a platform like BetterHelp can be of value. BetterHelp offers access to over 30,000 mental health care professionals with expertise in a number of specializations, as well as experience with a variety of populations. By filling out an online questionnaire, you will be connected to a therapist that meets your individual needs. And because therapy is a collaborative process that depends on healthy dynamics and a supportive environment, if you feel you need to switch therapists you can do so at no additional cost.
Online therapy with BetterHelp can also be a solution for busy parents, students, and professionals. Online sessions can fit easily into any schedule, and with video chat, phone, and text messaging options, you can talk to your therapist from the comfort of your own home or office.
Therapy can be a useful tool for a number of issues, whether you’re looking for healthy coping strategies for stress, healing from an eating disorder, learning to build supportive relationships, or building a toolbox of skills to facilitate a more meaningful life.

Tanya Lorenzi
Pronouns – she/her Hello, and welcome! I'm truly glad you're here, taking this courageous step toward reclaiming your well-being. My own journey into counseling began with personal challenges that reshaped my path. After the premature birth of my youngest, I Found out I needed a kidney transplant eight months later. With two small kids and a husband who was in the Navy, I fell into a deep depression. Getting out of bed was a struggle. With the help of an amazing therapist, I found my way back to the light. When it became clear that my transplant would prevent me from pursuing my dream of becoming a medical doctor, I sought another way to give back and found my calling in counseling. As a therapist, my mission is to assist individuals and couples in navigating their current challenges, helping them emerge stronger and more connected. Nothing brings me greater joy than concluding services with someone, knowing they have reclaimed their strength and resilience. I have two Master's degrees in counseling and have recently become a a sex therapist which allows me to support a diverse range of clients across all ages. I specialize in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an action-oriented approach that encourages embracing thoughts and feelings rather than fighting or feeling guilty for them. Additionally, I'm trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a psychotherapy treatment designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. Since 2012, I've made Augusta my home, relocating from New York City. My supportive husband and children stood by me throughout my educational journey, and now, with my two children grown and living in different places, I share my home with three large, loving dogs. Recently, I had the joy of welcoming my first granddaughter. I look forward to connecting with you and commend you on taking this first step toward rediscovering yourself.

Dr. K. Joseph "Joe" Wittemann
Hi. Thanks for reaching out to me. Let me introduce myself. I'm Joe Wittemann, a licensed professional counselor who's been helping people for over 40 years. Those years have provided me with considerable insight, experience and skills. I'm an immigrant to this country, so I have a sense of what displacement and separation and assimilation means. I've been a single parent, so I understand the rigor of raising children alone. I've completed my formal education, so I understand what struggle and perseverance means. I've remarried, so I know what compromise and acceptance means. I have transitioned from one career to another and understand the potential for positive change. I've been unhappy. I've been frightened. I've been alone. I've felt the pang of depression . And I have grown through these trials. And when I couldn't do it alone, I sought professional help. My first career was teaching and working with students. That lasted almost 25 years. Early in that career, I helped establish the Teen Institute on Alcohol and Drugs in Ohio. That led me to a 40 year involvement with adults in addiction recovery programs. I continue that work today. In my second career, I worked with organizations and industries struggling through major change initiatives. In those settings, I've helped individuals facing forced separation, transfer, and loss. I've also mentored leaders who struggled with the changes that they had to enact. I'm a consultant to a crisis response group serving companies experiencing workforce disruption. I appreciate the courage it takes to pick up a phone and call for help, or to push the enter button on a computer to search for it. Bravo. Now I'd like you to consider some of my beliefs about the counseling relationship and my approach to working with people. I consider this relationship a sacred trust and protect it from outside influence. The time we spend together is solely for your benefit . I believe that each individual inherently knows what is good or beneficial for them. Together we affirm that. Rather than looking at life as a series of problems to be solved, we explore opportunities for growth and development. What we think about is crucial to the way we behave or act. So exploring your thoughts about certain issues will help us find solutions to them. All of us are concerned with security and privacy. The BetterHelp platform provides for both. To that I add, a personal commitment to honor your privacy while in session and afterwards. Only with your permission can any information be released, unless otherwise ordered by a court of law. HIPPA policies are always in effect to safeguard personal/private information. Counseling is considered conversation between you and me. My role is to help clarify the concerns you bring to the conversation to help find solutions to them. Early on in our discussion, I will ask for more clarification to the issue(s) you present so that together we understand the core and tangential concerns. Together we will endeavor to find practical solution. And, if needed employ the aid of other health care professionals should medications be considered. I use a pragmatic approach to therapy, which I find moves the process along comfortably for the people I work with. That means, education and goal setting are important elements in moving forward. Cognitive processing and mindfulness are two critical components in achieving continuing mental well-being. So I do focus on how thinking affects how we feel and act..I consider, with the patients with whom I work, how brain chemistry add to stress responses and teach my clients on how to better manage it. I typically schedule 45 to 60 minutes with my clients. That allows us to explore more fully the concerns that you bring to the experience and to spend time needed to work toward resolution. That does limit the number of clients I see in a weeks time so that appointments are usually schedule every other week. Also, being on the East Coast, can be a challenge for clients who live in different time zones. If you do choose to work with me, I will attempt to meet your needs as best as I can. At this point in time, I do not work in the evenings, but I do provide some opportunity on Saturdays. My appointment schedule is available for you to see so that you may make and informed decision as we go forward together. If you believe that I might be a good fit for you, please contact me. We will see how we can work together to help you meet your needs.

It can never be easy to admit when we’re struggling in life, and often times, whether it’s family, friends, coworkers, and or other types of relationships, trying to untangle the balls of confusion and the uncertainty impacting our hearts, can be stressful. Moreover, it may even cause us sadness, worry and affect our ability to sleep at night. Other matters can also clinch at hearts, such as dealing with loss of a loved one, difficulties with life transitions, desiring an enriching fuller life, or even the realization that your child may be struggling. Given these points, if this is you, then you have come to the right place. Together, we will think through what you want to work on and develop a plan to achieve your goals. I will help you sort through confusion and turmoil and equally help you change patterns that may be unhealthy. I offer a confidential, non-judgmental space where you can explore and move from just surviving to thriving. My style is one of many with a focus on recognizing how unhealthy behavior and thought patterns occur, providing tools necessary to manage stress and getting solutions. Without delay, in an objective space you can explore and move towards changing and receiving the life you’ve wanted.

In establishing a therapeutic relationship between you and myself is to begin with an inviting warm welcome and thank you to you by allowing this journey of engagement between us. All relationships take risks and I am honored to provide a safe space for open dialogue between us. I combine many therapeutic modalities (i.e.,CBT, DBT, to develop your treatment plan by using a strengths-based approach to empower goals tailored to your needs and areas of concern. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidenced-based psychotherapy designed to help people with emotional dysregulation to treat mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and for change in behavioral patterns such as self-harm and substance abuse. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is a psycho-social intervention that aims to improve your mental health by focusing on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortion and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving current problems. I use Solution Focused Therapy, is an evidence-based therapeutic approach which incorporates positive psychological practices, principles, and outcomes that helps people change by constructing solutions rather than focusing on their problems. SFT is most commonly known to be a friendly, hope-eliciting, future- orientated vehicle for developing, achieving, motivating and sustaining a desired behavioral change. I use Narrative Therapy, which is a form of psychotherapy that seeks to help people identify their values and skills and knowledge they have to live these values, so they can effectively confront the problems they face in a safe manner. This may also provide space to reflect on historical trauma and family values as it relates to the individual and their goals. My goal is to establish a connection, whereby both you and I will partner, addressing that each person is an individual and worthy of a safe space to heal within themselves and within their relationships. If you choose me as your therapist, I will help you work toward overcoming your stumbling blocks. I can help with whatever your issues are, including depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, or substance use. I will always be real with you, and we will work together in a way that makes you feel safe. My approach is strengths based, client centered and solution focused. A little about me: I grew up in North Carolina with three brothers. I graduated from the University of NC at Chapel Hill with degrees in Psychology and Clinical Social Work. I moved to Georgia, became licensed as an LCSW, and I've been helping people for over 20 years. Outside of work, my greatest blessing is my young adult son, who is a recent Air Force veteran. I value my friends, family and faith. I have two dogs and a cat. I love to walk or hike, eat out, and listen to music. I especially love the beach! I believe you are the expert of your own life. If you choose me as your therapist, we will work toward accomplishing your goals together. My clients tell me that I am calming, genuine, encouraging and trustworthy. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Cognitive Behavioral Life Coach with 5 years of professional work experience. I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with a Concentration in Family and Child Services from the University of Phoenix and a Master of Social Work from Capella University. I hold the Board Certified-TeleMental Health Provider (BC-TMH) and Human Services-Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) credentials from the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE). I am a certified specialist in anger management and grief/loss. I have experience working with children and their parents or guardians in inpatient and outpatient treatment settings, providing individual, group, and/or family counseling, clinical-community linkage, and crisis intervention. During the course of therapy, I foster a non-authoritative approach and I utilize Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). MBCT is a therapeutic approach which engenders a new way of being with painful emotions and challenging situations. MBCT is thought process-focused, and it is often used to help individuals who struggle with anger/aggression, anxiety, and depression. I do not believe in a “one size fits all” approach to therapy, thus, each session is tailored to fit your strengths, needs, abilities, and/or preferences. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. I am here to support and empower you in that journey.
