No one in life is perfect, including me! Being able to identify, relate and empathize with you as my patient is probably one of my greatest strengths. The special relationship formed between you and I, ensuring trust, confidence, and ability to truly work through the issues are of utmost importance. I believe everyone has something to work through in their lives. By providing evidence based therapy and unconditional positive regard, I have been very effective in my treatment history. I will always begin where you feel you need to go in therapy and allow you to guide me in your struggles, what you need most and what you desire to gain from therapy. This is a two way relationship and feedback throughout the therapeutic process will only enhance the therapeutic relationship towards your goals. I wish for you to find the inner peace and strength that I know everyone has within them and to be able to achieve and live the life that makes you feel truly alive! As for some information about myself, I am a retired Army social worker and love that I have had the ability to work with Soldiers throughout a multitude of issues to include PTSD, depression, anxiety, phase of life issues, grief and loss, marital counseling, substance abuse, domestic violence intervention, parenting skills, and adjustment issues. My background and strengths are in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and other desensitization therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and Supportive Therapy. I like to provide psycho-education and lots of coping skills, self-reflective, and other psychological tools to allow patients to learn and grow via hands-on materials. Growth comes with constant practice and application of the things we learn. I hope you will allow me to be part of your journey and I look forward to meeting you.

Meri "Brooke" Maloney
Aloha! My name is Brooke Maloney and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Hawaii. I have nearly 15 years experience working as a professional counselor in several different settings. Most recently I worked as an Outreach Counselor in a public middle school for students in 6-8th grade. Here I helped students manage interpersonal issues often arising from conflicts at home, social media, or with their peers. Prior to this, I spent time working as an Individual and Family Therapist. My clients came from all walks of life; some were experiencing difficulty in their lives because of prior abuse and trauma while others were having a hard time navigating and adjusting to certain life events such as the death of a loved one, angry and oppositional children, and/or work and life difficulties. I have worked with families who were having issues establishing roles and defining expectations for all of the members; as well as extensive experience helping clients struggling with anxiety, depression, adjustments issues, and other relationship based concerns. My main goal when working with a client is to not only help alleviate the problem that they are coming to therapy to deal with but to also aid the person in creating the life of their dreams. We often get focused on the symptoms but forget to look at the overall picture of how we would like our lives to look and feel and what steps are needed to get there. Once we begin to work through the current problem we are better able to look to the future and decided how we want it to look and more importantly, how we want to feel about the life we live. I strive to help clients through a cognitive-behavioral, person centered approach where I integrate mindfulness-based therapy to promote good mental and physical health. In addition, I have had amazing transformational results using a fairly new technique called Emotional Freedom Technique, sometimes shortened to just "Tapping". This form of therapy has been used to treat anxiety, PTSD, aid in weight loss, and to lessen stress and other interpersonal issues. Any life problem can be aided by learning this easily taught and integrated healing modality and we can integrate it into your therapy sessions if you so choose. Reaching out for help at any point in our lives can be a very difficult decision. Going the distance with a trusted therapist can make all the difference. I applaud you for seeking help to make your life one lived with ease and joy. If you so choose, I would be honored to be your guide on this journey. I look forward to hearing from you!

A little about me: I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with licenses in VA and HI. I hail from the East Coast originally, and have lived in Hawaii for about ten years. I have 25+ years as a psychotherapist, working with adults. I have worked with a diversity of client populations, ranging from working with the military, LGBT, women's groups, and clients in specialty areas around healing with relationship challenges, self-esteem and building self-confidence, grief and loss, anxiety and stress reduction, managing change, depression, substance abuse, especially alcohol abuse and family impact, incest, trauma, and eating disorders. I draw from several therapeutic styles, including solution-focused, integrative which combines person-centered and psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral and Gestalt. I value insight and goal-setting as keys to behavioral change. I can also share with you that I’ve trained with some of the best as mentors and trainers, including Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross-the world's leading authority in grief and loss work, and Virginia Satir-the world's leading expert in family systems and couples work. A fun fact about me: I went up in a hot air balloon to celebrate my 30th birthday! Now let’s talk a bit about your counseling… In these first days and weeks, the process may feel slow at times, but we need to build trust so that I may sync my style to your needs so that you can best achieve your goals. The BetterHelp counseling space is where you have your voice, it is your safe space to express and where you are free to ask questions and freely share about how our process is flowing. Whether this is your first time or not in counseling, it is important that you be open about how things are going. If you are new, I will explain the counseling process along the way. Remember that I am your guide to inspire you forward but you are always in charge of your healing journey. When life knocks us down, we all need a warm heart and safe space where we can sort things through. I am here to help, whether you are navigating life challenges, repairing relationships with yourself and others, healing loss, or building change resilience. Reaching out takes courage. A committed counseling journey leads to healing and peace. I could share that I trained with Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross and Virginia Satir. I would rather say that I listen to connect, not to judge or reject. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.”-African Proverb. Reach out. Let’s explore, together!

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Hawaii, serving the Hawaiian Islands as a social worker since 2008. I have worked with clients of all ages and diverse backgrounds. My specialty is working with the aging population (60+ years old), their caregivers, and those facing chronic illness. I also hold a doctorate in clinical psychology in addition to graduate and undergraduate degrees in social work with a focus in behavioral mental health. Although I have received training and education in a multitude of treatment approaches and theoretical modalities, my years working as a social worker and psychotherapist have taught me that people can benefit most from an integrative and individualized intervention approach that is tailored to meet their distinct and unique needs. I have extensive experience working with forensically encumbered individuals and have developed specializations in the treatment of trauma, particularly those with a history of sexual trauma, as well as serious mental illnesses (including bipolar and depressive disorders, anxiety/panic disorders, schizophrenia/schizoaffective disorders, and suicidal ideations or a history of suicide/parasuicidal gestures and self-harm behaviors), substance use disorders, anger management, as well as personality disorders, especially antisocial, histrionic, and borderline personality disorders. As a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, I am very well-versed in addressing the issues most salient to this population, among which include sexual or romantic orientation, gender identity, queer/genderqueer identity, asexuality, intersex individuals, and internalized homo-/transphobia (not an exhaustive list). Moreover, I am experienced in treating couples and relationship issues, in addition to issues related to sexuality and sexual dysfunction (infidelity, non-monogamous/polyamorous folks, BDSM, kink, sexual desire discrepancy, out-of-control sexual behavior/sex or pornography addiction, low or diminished sexual desire, erectile dysfunction, premature/delayed ejaculation, anorgasmia, vaginismus/dyspareunia/vulvodynia). I believe in a collaborative therapeutic relationship that utilizes a combination of techniques and methodologies to help you live a happier, healthier life. I am passionate about empowering those I work with and helping people to rediscover their own strength and reclaim their sense of agency by employing empathy to focus on building insight and resilience, reinforcing coping skills, and working toward positive, lasting change.
