No one in life is perfect, including me! Being able to identify, relate and empathize with you as my patient is probably one of my greatest strengths. The special relationship formed between you and I, ensuring trust, confidence, and ability to truly work through the issues are of utmost importance. I believe everyone has something to work through in their lives. By providing evidence based therapy and unconditional positive regard, I have been very effective in my treatment history. I will always begin where you feel you need to go in therapy and allow you to guide me in your struggles, what you need most and what you desire to gain from therapy. This is a two way relationship and feedback throughout the therapeutic process will only enhance the therapeutic relationship towards your goals. I wish for you to find the inner peace and strength that I know everyone has within them and to be able to achieve and live the life that makes you feel truly alive! As for some information about myself, I am a retired Army social worker and love that I have had the ability to work with Soldiers throughout a multitude of issues to include PTSD, depression, anxiety, phase of life issues, grief and loss, marital counseling, substance abuse, domestic violence intervention, parenting skills, and adjustment issues. My background and strengths are in utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and other desensitization therapy, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, and Supportive Therapy. I like to provide psycho-education and lots of coping skills, self-reflective, and other psychological tools to allow patients to learn and grow via hands-on materials. Growth comes with constant practice and application of the things we learn. I hope you will allow me to be part of your journey and I look forward to meeting you.

Kristine Hanson
My name is Kristine and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LADC) in the state of Minnesota and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Bachelor Social Worker (LBSW) and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) in the state of Hawaii. I received my Master of Arts degree in Addiction Counseling: Advanced Practice from the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies and I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. My most recent full-time counseling job was in Hawaii for 2 years as a Substance Abuse Clinical Counselor working with male and female active duty military members and their families dealing with substance use issues. Prior to this, I worked for nearly 5 years at a recovery center for adult women with co-occurring disorders (a substance use disorder and another mental health disorder). I truly enjoy working with people who are willing to put in the work to overcome life challenges so they can become their best self. I have worked with clients dealing with a variety of concerns such as anxiety, life transitions, substance use, grief/loss, self-esteem, stress management, depression, anger and emotion regulation. In all of my therapeutic relationships my goal is to help my clients feel supported, validated and empowered. I would describe my counseling style as a mixture of person-centered, cognitive-behavioral and solution-focused while also incorporating motivational interviewing, relational-cultural and trauma-informed techniques. The main tenet in person-centered therapy that I wholeheartedly believe in is that we all have the ability within ourselves for healing, personal growth and self-actualization. I prioritize building and strengthening the therapeutic alliance with each client and serve as a guide on your life journey by providing insight, empathy, support and unconditional positive regard in a non-judgmental way. I meet each client where they are at and individualize care to meet your specific needs and goals. A little about me: I am an animal lover! I have always had a dog and cat that make up my little family and are such an important part of my life. I love my family, music, crafts, nature (especially being near bodies of water), essential oils, outdoor activities, dancing and Springbok jigsaw puzzles. I look forward to working with you, getting to know you and helping you become your best self so you can meet your specific goals. I would be honored to be a part of your journey.

Angela Mendiola
Welcome! My name is Angela Mendiola and I was born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. I have been practicing in the counseling profession for the past 6 years. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University of Honolulu with an emphasis in Mental Health. My professional training include graduate internships at Kailua High School, the Chaminade University Counseling Center and a national internship funded by North Carolina State University as a Project Youth Extension Service Intern where I served military youth impacted by deployment for one year. Three components that I find most important in a therapeutic alliance are cultural sensitivity, empathetic understanding and listening. The most profound and insightful thing that I have learned in my years as a mental health professional is that maintaining your mental health is important regardless of what stage of life you are in and it is a practice that may assist you in building meaningful social connections, healthy coping skills and to clarify life goals. I also believe that education and knowledge truly is power so I aim to provide you with self-help or informative tools such as articles supported by trusted sources that explain what you may be experiencing and how you can spark positive change in your life. I’ve worked with individuals who have faced significant grief and loss in their lives, those who struggle with establishing meaningful relationships and connections with others, and those who have had suicidal thoughts. I am also well versed, professional, in the struggles of anxiety. My therapeutic style involves helping you to clarify any goals that you would like to prioritize, brainstorming and discussing strategies and building coping skills that you can begin using immediately to make positive change in your life.
