David has a very diverse background. In addition to Masters in Mental Health Counseling, he has a Maters in Biology/Biochemistry and worked in Research. David changed fields and worked 25 years as a radiochemist which combined nuclear chemistry and physics. As a counselor his background has been very beneficial in understanding the processes underlying behavior and mental health. As a result of his work in industry David has good people skills which are essential in working with clients with mental health issues. David provides an eclectic approach in counseling theory and uses Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Counseling, Schema Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy. He is trained in Biofeedback and Neurofeedback which are good tools to help clients with issues such as depression, anxiety disorders and addiction. David’s initial approach is to develop a trusting relationship with the client. He then works with the client to identify the specific issues. A treatment plan is developed to address these issues. As treatment proceeds this plan may be revised as specific issues come up. When the client completes the plan, he will be reassessed. Depending on the clients progress the client may be discharged with specific goals to work on. If there are still unresolved issues a new treatment plan will be developed and treatment continued. If there are issues that require a different approach David may refer the client to another counselor that specializes in the client’s specific issues. On a personal level David has three adult children and two grandsons. David was raised in the mountains of Wyoming and has a place south of Jackson Hole which he spends as much time as he can. There his closest neighbors are elk, moose, and wolves. David lives most of the time in Boise. He has been fortunate to have traveled the world a great deal spending time in South East Asia and China. He recently spent time in Tuscany and in Malta. He still skis, canoes, loves to fly fish and generally spend time in nature.

Thankyou for reading my profile. It is difficult to convey my work in few paragraphs. I have been counseling since 1998 when I completed my first master's degree in Counseling. I later earned a second masters in Clinical Social Work. I understand that change is not easy and I know that no single approach to change works for everyone. With this in mind, I am willing to draw upon a number of modalities. I use techniques from mindfulness and gratitude along with traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Reality Therapy to develop a plan of growth. I am always in partnership, working alongside the client and family as we move towards health. I believe that the client is the authority or expert with regard to their goals and needs. I follow the client's lead in developing those goals while offering my expertise in creating a successful plan. I also believe that focusing on a whole person strength-based relationship contributes to a solid base of trust and acceptance. With this solid therapeutic relationship established, the client can feel safe to be authentic and vulnerable.

I'm licensed as a counselor (LPC) in Idaho and Arizona, with five years of therapy experience. My goal is to listen, come alongside, and empower women. I have been trained as a certified clinical trauma professional. I counseled diverse children with trauma for a few years, and for almost two years have been focusing on women. In addition, I have knowledge of religious trauma. I also learned qualitative research in a doctoral certificate program. My own position as a woman, daughter, wife, and mother led me to research women and gender roles. Along with my women's specialization, I bring insight to the complex roots of a client's coping skills that have become dysfunctional. These often stem from cultural and family messaging, trauma and abuse. I support clients in developing new coping skills with self-compassion. I love to continue learning and growing. I use a person-centered, holistic, and eclectic approach tailored to each unique individual. I'm here to help you build relational skills, including how to relate to your own inner self.

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years in the counseling field. Many of my clients experience stress, grief, anxiety, depression, difficult life transitions, and challenges surrounding blended families. My experience surrounds settings in both large cities and small towns with a span through a variety of cultures. It becomes an important piece of our work together that I tailor my counseling approach to your needs and comfort level. My desire to help, support and motivate others comes from a personal history with overcoming some of life's major challenges and obstacles. Learning there is support out there, knowing that we can overcome suffering and find our inner strength, has become an important mission for me. Cognitive behavioral, humanistic, empowering, and task oriented approaches are used widely in my practice. At times it can be simple daily challenges that become too overwhelming for us, while other times suffering from longer lasting challenges such as death and various trauma are why my clients seek support. When change is needed, whether we know what needs to be changed or not, we can take a look at what is going on around and within us. It is at this time that change can begin to occur. By taking the first step to a more healthy you, healing can begin, doors will open, growth occurs, and new life skills can be obtained. I hope to meet you and am glad you made it here.
