When you read “Olympia Fields,” you can’t help but think of the Ancient Greeks, and their small town, Olympia, where athletes performed games for the god, Zeus. Even today, olympic athletes show us what determination, confidence and belief can do.
Your own mental illness may seem like an impossible feat to overcome. But can you approach it with an Olympian’s strength and confidence? With the help of an Olympia Fields-area counselor, you can. By matching with a licensed, confidential mental health professional, you can face this game of life and win.

I believe we are all capable of more than we think we are, and my job is to help you do those hard things! We will work together to identify what areas you would like to improve, and continually check in with each other on your progress. Every day you make the decision to improve how you feel. The fact that you’re here, reading this, is a win for you! I have been practicing psychotherapy for 13 years in various clinical settings. I have experience helping adults cope with depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationships, life transitions, parenting issues, vocational issues, anger management, trauma, abuse, and grief. I practice cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), which examines the relationship between your thoughts and the feelings that those thoughts cause. I also teach stress relief, which frankly we all need, in the form of relaxation techniques and mindfulness. I can help you reduce your worries and stress, adjust to change, reach your personal goals, and find short and long-term solutions to the problems you’re struggling with. I'm glad you're here with me on this journey!

Paula Moore
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Illinois and Missouri. I graduated from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 2016, and have been working with a variety of clients and issues. I live and work in Alton, Illinois, about 30 miles north of St. Louis on the Mississippi River. My treatment approach is client-centered, goal-oriented, collaborative, and strengths-based. I believe that most mental health issues can be traced back to trauma; it’s not what is wrong with you, but what has happened to you. I use CBT and EMDR as my main therapy modalities, but also incorporate somatic processing, motivational interviewing, exposure therapy, and positive psychology. Once the negative beliefs are identified, the work is to create more adaptive beliefs, and process the actual traumas. Self-care, and coping skills for symptoms are extremely important, too, especially in the beginning of therapy. I am affirming, and believe that people get to decide who they are. I also believe that growth and evolution are inherent in our human nature. Reaching out for help with life’s challenges is one of the most important things one can do for their long-term health and well-being. I walk with you, never judging, and always supporting you with your goals. I look forward to helping you find relief from symptoms, needed solutions, and ultimately, true healing.

I provide individual therapy to adults and adolescents, as well as couples and family therapy. My practice is a general outpatient practice, best suited for those who desire improvement in their love life, family life, work life, or in their physical health and wellness. Alison McCandless
Hi all! I am Ali and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I have worked for a community mental health agency in Chicago for the past 3 years and I am originally from Southern California. I just recently moved to Denver, CO this summer. I am currently licensed in Illinois and Colorado. My experience is working in community mental health, I engaged with low-income folks with various mental health needs, such as life stressors, mood and psychotic disorders, anxiety, depression and trauma. I believe everyone has a story to tell and that each one matters. I use different approaches depending on client’s needs. I engage Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic model and strengths-based approach. In addition to building in coping skills or behavioral modification, I take time gathering client’s history in order to help the client make connections and meaning of their past experiences. I value using biopsychosocial assessment which gages client’s level of functioning and prevalence of symptoms. In 2023, the world can be and feel like a messed-up place… getting support for your mental health is important. I serve my clients without judgment and with hope. If you think we would be a good fit, I would love to meet you and support you in your therapy journey!

I am licensed in Illinois with 7 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, post-traumatic stress, coping with grief and loss, & career difficulties. As a compassionate and empathetic therapist, I understand the complex emotional and psychological impact that infertility and reproductive loss can have. Strong emotional responses such as anxiety, depression or post-traumatic stress may arise following reproductive loss or infertility challenges. Supportive therapy for both men and women experiencing these challenges offers much-needed understanding and validation, and can help you work through these emotions, learn effective tools to cope, and gain new perspectives that can foster healing. While infertility and miscarriage challenges are my specialty, I am also experienced in working with all types of grief/loss, PTSD, anxiety, depression and career challenges. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
