I am a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois with specialization in addictions (substance use and sexual disorders), trauma and emotional conditions, LGBTQ concerns, depression, anxiety, relationship and parenting concerns, vocational challenges, legal issues, and serious mental health illnesses. Since I started in the field in 1998, I have always known I would be a counselor. Growing up, it came naturally to me to be compassionate, empathetic, and to listen with a non-judgmental stance. Over the past 20 years, I have helped hundreds of individuals improve their lifestyles through my work and passion for helping. What I love the most about working as a therapist is being apart of those quantum change insights; the ones that involve a shift in perception and the realization of a new life. It can be as simple as looking at ones self in a positive light, realizing they are capable of change. Recovery is about self-discovery, rediscovering the parts that you believe have become disconnected or lost. Authentic recovery allows you to achieve peace and satisfaction with your life. This starts with positive connections. I am here to guide you in the path of healing the root cause of your stress. With positive and loving connection, I will honor your path towards fulfillment. Currently as of 5/14/2020, I am no longer taking new clients due to a full schedule.

I have a Master's degree in clinical psychology and am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the state of Illinois. I have worked in the field in one capacity or another since 1988, mostly in the community mental health arena which provided me the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of areas, even though I began my career as an addictions counselor. I am currently part of a private practice group as well as providing clinical supervision to our local problem solving court clients including participants in drug court, mental health court and veterans court. I believe that in order to help people make positive changes, one must first acknowledge and accept where they are without judgement or shame. I think people need to have their feelings validated and it must be understood that there is a logic and motivation behind every human behavior. A client centered approach is vital to building a trusting relationship to help people move from where they are to where they want to be. I use a variety of approaches along the way as people grow and change. I typically start off with a client centered approach and motivational interviewing. From there, I like to tailor the counseling to best fit the client's goals and what they want to achieve. The strategies I most commonly draw on are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and other skills building approaches. My counseling style is casual and inviting. I want for clients to feel comfortable and safe to discuss whatever they need to and to leave each session feeling like they at least received compassionate care and hopefully a new tool for their tool box of coping skills. I would be honored to embark on your healing journey with you and look forward to working with you to help you reach your goals!

Hello! Thank you for looking at my profile and considering me for counseling services. A bit about me, I have been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois since 2010. Prior to that I was licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) beginning in 2007. Along with counseling, I have been working as an Adjunct Professor for Bradley University (Peoria, IL), in their counseling program, teaching courses on substance abuse, grief and loss and human growth and development. I currently work in the field of Probation (since 2018) and keep my counseling skills sharp by teaching and consulting. I feel I have great skill in counseling and want to be able to continue to help people through the medium of counseling. So, that is why I am here, to continue to help those who are looking for an unbiased, non judgmental person to listen. I am a very opened minded person who is willing to help anyone in any position they are in. This is not to say I know how to manage every issue that may cross my path but I am willing to help others and listen. I have spent much of my counseling career helping people with depression, anxiety, stress, anger management, relationships and many other issues people face every day. I have also spent extra time learning, understanding and helping people with OCD. While it may be difficult to help clients with OCD on this type of platform, as exposure therapy is a key component, I am hopeful to continue to help those experiencing issues related to OCD. No matter where you are in life, who you are, what you believe, I am here to help you. Counseling is a difficult journey but a fruitful one for most that embark. I am a laid back counselor, with a good sense of humor (I am a firm believer that humor is therapeutic) and willing to meet you were you are emotionally and mentally. Counseling is not about me telling you how to live your life or the changes you have to make. My hope is for my clients to make the changes they would like to see happen and my role is to help them get there, not do everything for them to feel like they are there. You have taken the important first step of seeking help for whatever issue you are experiencing. Even if you do not choose me to help, I encourage you to keep looking and be willing to start the counseling journey. If you do choose me to start your counseling journey, I will do what is needed to help you feel heard and make changes to help you both short and long term. I look forward to working with you. :-)
