I generally check my messages each day, Monday through Friday, during standard business hours and respond as quickly as I can. My goal is to respond within 24 hours during the weekdays. I do appreciate your patience when it takes a bit longer at times, as I may be tending to other clients or other professional responsibilities. I prefer to do therapy via weekly live video sessions as therapy progresses much more quickly with this modality which means you will feel relief much faster. Live video sessions are usually 30 to 45 minutes long. Currently, all of my evening appointments are full. Most of my availability is between 11:00AM Central and 3:00PM Central, Monday through Thursday. Regarding scheduling, I do not use my BetterHelp calendar as I prefer to make appointments directly with you. I am looking forward to working with you!

Amanda Marcum
My name is Amanda Marcum, and I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Indiana. I earned my Master of Social Work degree, specializing in Children and Families, from Indiana University in 2007. I've worked in many different settings with adolescents, adults and families who have a variety of personal issues such as depression/anxiety, stress, family problems, LGBT stressors, trauma/abuse, addictions of all kinds, relationships/parenting and more. Over the past 13 years as a clinician, my experience has taught me that the most important aspect of counseling by far is the connection and comfort you feel with the person you choose to share your personal struggles. I believe we can all grow through challenging experiences by increasing our self-awareness. Sometimes another person, one who isn't in our immediate circle, can offer a perspective or additional support that give us movement on a difficult situation when we feel stuck. It would be my privilege to be that person for you. We all want to be able to share our personal truths and be accepted and understood. I believe it's very important to be open-minded and non-judgmental when someone shares their personal story or experiences with me. Our relationship with our self and others has worth and is useful to explore in counseling. You are welcome to message me anytime through Better Help. The frequency with which you can have access to a counselor to work through day to day emotions and problem solving is extremely beneficial for most and a nice change from traditional outpatient counseling. I usually check messages three times each day, seven days per week. I offer messaging, live chat and phone or video sessions. My availability will primarily be in the evenings and weekends. Please note that what you see in my calendar may not reflect my only availability so you will always want to check that out with me through messaging first. I look forward to working with you!

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with 22 years of experience counseling primarily adults in the state of Indiana. I believe in the practice of "unconditional positive regard," meaning I will never be judgmental or shaming during my time with you. Instead, I will be sincere, engaging, supportive and encouraging you in your journey towards a better you. My experience in counseling includes those with Depression, Grief, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, ADHD, Relationship issues, Abuse (sexual and domestic), Shame-based Family of Origin issues, Co-Dependency, and Addictions. In therapy I use a blend of Adlerian and Cognitive Behavioral therapies, which focuses on how our thinking, feeling, and behavior can drive dysfunctional living, and conversely, how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors can be changed to produce a healthier, productive lifestyle. To that end, in addition to talk therapy, I use didactic, experiential, and the use of parables to help facilitate your progress. The use of "homework" I find keeps clients engaged in the therapy process while not in session. If you choose to work with me, together we will make a plan of treatment based on your goals for seeking treatment, and I will walk with you every step of the way. I am fully aware you have tried everything else before walking through the virtual door and I respect you for your courage in seeking help at this time.

Everyone desires to be healthy, happy, and whole. If you are expecting a result, envisioning an answer, or seeking a resolution for your challenges, you may simply need an idea regarding how to address them. You may even wonder if a solution exists for your situation. Be assured, there are no real limits when you pursue a path that leads to living your best life ever. In fact, it is your time! One choice - among others – is to "make a life change that will change your life". Pause and picture this, You at your very best. This is not so far removed from your grasp! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. I practice as a cognitive behavioral therapist. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of therapy that is active, collaborative, goal-oriented and is based on the cognitive model. That means we will work together to understand the role that our thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors play in our current struggles. In addition to support and insight, CBT offers clients specific strategies, skills and tools that you can use to make changes, relieve suffering, and achieve your goals. I can help you make discoveries and establish connections, as you find yourself along the way. By maximizing the use of thought processing and development, in a cognitive manner, healing and happiness can begin. These great experiences can also continue. Therapeutic practices have always offered this type of comfort, while prompting the presence of joy. You deserve to reach your goals. It is possible to overcome your current difficulties, if any exist. It is a perfect time, to take the time, and find lasting joy. I am compassionate about assisting others in exploring possibilities, utilizing abilities and finding optimal resolutions in the most satisfying ways. Therapy provides the tools to empower healthy living.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Amboy?
One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Amboy licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Amboy counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Amboy, Indiana can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Amboy has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you.
