Dr. Barbera earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of New Mexico in 1997. He completed his internship with a specialization in Health Psychology at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. As an Active Duty Air Force Psychologist he worked at the Eglin Air Force Base Hospital for the first 4 years of his career and the Hurlburt Field Behavioral Health Clinic for 2 years. In 2001 he moved to Indiana to join the St. Vincent Family Medicine Residency Faculty. In 2019 he moved to Riverview Health in Noblesville, IN to help their healthcare system start a Behavioral Care Clinic. I'm committed to providing evidence-based treatment for depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, chronic pain, diabetes self-management, obesity, and nicotine addiction. I am familiar with the 12 step model for recovery and generally use a CBT based approach to other clinical issues. In my work experience I have also been active in emergency medicine and an EMT-A and wilderness/swift water rescue along with HAM radio, including weather spotting and ARES work. In the 20+ years of work as a counselor, I have dealt with a variety of issues and treated indviduals with a long list of mental health issues. I tend to utilize a CBT model of therapy, but am not adverse to other modalities of treatment including 12 step, Motivational interviewing and CISM interventions.
