The motto of Coffeyville is “Our history fuels our future,” which means that they can look back to their past to have a more successful tomorrow. Sometimes we are not able to do that, especially when we are struggling with emotional or mental illness. There are many times when we just need that extra help from someone who understands.
If you or someone you love is having trouble moving forward or has a past issue that they need to talk about, whatever the problem, there are many counselors and therapists in the Coffeyville area who can help you right now.

Laurie Sansom
I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for the State of Kansas, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Minnesota, and a Licensed Professional Counselor for the State of Arizona. I have been working with clients in outpatient settings since 2011. Typical concerns that I have experience with are anxiety and/or mild depression, relationship issues, supporting people through separation and divorce, grief and loss, parenting, stress management, PTSD, and support for faith/spiritual life. I find Cognitive Behavioral Therapy quite useful and effective, so I tend to use that whenever it seems fitting. I do my best to make sure that I ascertain what approach works best with each client. I want to be flexible and sensitive to your needs and personality. I believe that if you feel safe with me and that you can trust me, that's the most important aspect of working together. I look forward to working with you!

Pamela Frieden
Hello! Welcome to the BetterHelp community! My name is Pamela Frieden and I am a Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker practicing in Kansas. I am also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oklahoma. I have been providing psychotherapy for a wide variety of issues and populations for 20 years. I graduated from Newman University in 2000 with a Master in Social Work and a Minor in Women's Studies. For six years, early in my clinical career, I did in-home family therapy with Juvenile Offenders and their families to help reduce recidivism rates of teens entering the criminal justice system using the Functional Family Therapy Blueprint model. Since 2006, I have been working as an Independent Therapist in private practice and group practice settings. I would describe my approach as goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Both modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns and or behaviors. The goals are to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind difficult situations, and so change the way they feel. This helps people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors. Difficult and painful times are part of the human experience. I understand seeking help can be a vulnerable step to take. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth, first and foremost, requires establishing a trusting and an emotional supportive relationship. Change is not easy, but it is possible. Due to other obligations, evening appointments are very limited.

Robert McElwee
My name is Bob McElwee, and I have been a clinical therapist for more than 25 years. I am a retired clergyman, and I currently work as a teacher and chaplain at a boys boarding school in Southeast Kansas. My wife and I have raised seven children, and we currently have 15 grandchildren. I have earned master’s degrees in literature, theology, and clinical psychology. Additionally, I also have an associate degree as a motorcycle repair and maintenance technician. In addition to riding and repairing Harley Davidson motorcycles, I enjoy gardening, carpentry, scuba diving, long distance bicycle riding, model trains, exercise, travel, and reading. As a clergyman I have considerable experience in marriage preparation, couples counseling, divorce adjustment, and grief and bereavement therapy. As a clinical therapist most of my work has been with individual mood disorders (e.g. anxiety and depression). I am a Licensed Clinical Marriage and Family Therapist (LCMFT). As such I have worked mostly with people in stressed relationships that have produced individual disfunctions and flawed coping strategies. My theoretical basis for most of my therapeutic interventions is most accurately described as “Cognitive-Behavioral.” Even so I take “Script Theory” seriously and find it a useful tool in helping people to re-conceptualize and organize their personality structure and characteristics. In this regard I am currently investigating “Narrative Therapy” and its theoretic techniques. At base I am an optimistic person who believes that people have the ability to recover from past negative experiences if given proper tools, techniques, and encouragement. I enjoy assisting people as they create a productive, responsible, principled, and creative life that they can be proud of, and enjoy.

I still love what I do after 22 years. I have extensive experience in Christian Counseling, Blended Families, Couples, Addiction, PTSD, Trauma, Sex-Offenders, and Obsessive-Compulsive behaviors. I have worked with a variety of clients ranging from ages 7 to 89. I have worked with juveniles in a residential facility, military families on an army base, couples, and individuals through mental health and addiction facility plus my church. I am independently licensed in 3 different states as a Marriage and Family Therapist and independently licensed in 2 states as an Addiction Counselor. I believe everyone has a "gift," something that they are called to do and Counseling is mine. I care about my clients and have the innate ability to "zone" in what is going on with them. I use Emotional Focus Therapy, Strength-Based, Trauma-Informed, Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, but it really depends on the clients I am seeing. Personally, I am a wife who has been married for 39 years with 8 children and 23 grandchildren. I work full time at a mental health facility, but I have some mornings and evenings available for my Better Help clients. My goal is to help my clients reach their goals. I find joy and satisfaction when I see them achieve what they are searching for. I offer a safe environment, honesty, understanding, and respect. I admire anyone who wants to make a change and is willing to reach out and ask for help. I am here for you if you are that person.
