I am a licensed clinical professional counselor and a national certified clinical counselor. I completed my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision with an emphasis in marriage and family studies at Kansas State University. I have worked as a counselor for over 10 years in many settings which include, corrections, military, hospital, college, mental health agency and private practice. I have worked with all types of clients experiencing depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, anger, personality disorders and substance and alcohol abuse. My desire in therapy is to see individuals, couples, and families restored and healthy in every area of their lives. I use an integrative approach to therapy. My primary treatment approach is client-centered therapy. I find this approach beneficial because it helps to establish and maintain a strong therapeutic relationship. Additionally, I am a trained EMDR therapist, a Certified Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Specialist (CCBTS), and I utilize attachment approaches in my work with individuals, families, and couples who are experiencing distress in their interpersonal relationships.

For six years, early in my clinical career, I did in-home family therapy with Juvenile Offenders and their families to help reduce recidivism rates of teens entering the criminal justice system using the Functional Family Therapy Blueprint model. Since 2006, I have been working as an Independent Therapist in private practice and group practice settings. I would describe my approach as goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Both modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns and or behaviors. The goals are to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind difficult situations, and so change the way they feel. This helps people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors. Difficult and painful times are part of the human experience. I understand seeking help can be a vulnerable step to take. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth, first and foremost, requires establishing a trusting and an emotional supportive relationship. Change is not easy, but it is possible. Due to other obligations, evening appointments are very limited.
