The answer to the question "Who is Jayne X Praxis?" has taken me 30 years to discover. The main thing I've learned is that I'll continue to discover and understand who I am for the next 30 and more years. However, I can tell you some of what I've learned so far, especially about my practice as a therapist and my dedication to my own healing and to helping others heal when I can. I have found the process of healing and the pathway of clinical therapy are at their roots the process of rewriting your personal narrative. It is taking out current understanding about ourselves and the world and the way those two things interact and creating a different story than the one we've been living. A story in which we are empowered to make changes, set boundaries, let go of the things that no longer serve us. and to discover and pursue our personal values. This also means we will find and identify strengths that maybe we didn't know we had, and find ways to manage the limitations that we comes from chronic illness. I see my role as more cooperative than authoritarian, creating a space for this work to take place, offering tools and resources, and sharing knowledge both clinical and personal, however it is you, and me, who do our own work. It is my own commitment to my healing from my own mental health issues and my journey as a pansexual non-binary transwoman that lead me to the decision to help others who have needed some guidance and support in their own journeys. To this end I have been an educator, activist, and advocate in the Louisville LGBTQ+ community since I came out in 1991. I obtained my MSSW from the Kent School of Social Work in 2010 and my LCSW in 2015. I have been a practicing therapist for 14 years and have worked with people of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds. I have found I am at my strongest when I provide individual therapy to adults (18+). I specialize in treating trauma and LGBTQ+ issues. as well as mood disorders, life transitions, AD/HD, adjustment disorders, and grief.

Hello, I am Dr. Janet Dean, a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Kentucky. I have over 20 years of experience in counseling and psychotherapy, working with people at many different places in life and with many different concerns. My training was at The Ohio State University. Clients would tell you that I am easy to relate to and quite supportive, even when we are dealing with hard issues. My general therapeutic approach is cognitive-behavioral therapy within a strong therapeutic relationship with my clients. While I am able to serve individuals with just about any personal or psychological issue, my practice tends to be with individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, life changes, faith, relational issues, and sexual identity and sexual addiction concerns. In addition to being a therapist, I am a college professor, teaching psychology to undergraduate students and training graduate students who want to become counselors themselves. Part of my academic work includes research centering on sexual identity and faith, counselor self-care, and the connections between faith and mental health. My research team and I have published numerous articles and a book, and we travel throughout the country presenting our work and training people to provide better care. My hope for my clients is that they find freedom, peace, and joy by becoming comfortable with who they are, building strong relationships with others, and finding their place in life. It would be an honor to walk with you in your journey.

Hi!! My name is Tina Jones-Wallace and I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor - Supervisor (LPCC-S) in the state of Kentucky. I have been practicing all together for 14 years. I started out as a School-Based Counselor working within a public school system seeing all ages from Kindergarten to 8th grade. Then I moved into the outpatient setting seeing anyone who walked through the door. I believe the best way to learn is to be hands on, ask questions when you don't understand, and be very aware of the resources that are at your disposal. During my outpatient years, my youngest client was 3 years old and my oldest was 61. I am well versed in addictions, anxiety, depression, parenting, and working with a lot of severely ill adults. I am a person that loves to help others and to support anyone on their journey to accomplish whatever goals they set forward. I have spent the last 6 years years working in crisis and dealing with people who are suicidal or overwhelmed. If you are ready to start your journey as the captain to your ship, I am more than ready to be your first-mate!!!

Welcome to BetterHelp and congratulations, because to walk through even the virtual doors of a counselor's office is a courageous step toward an exploratory process that can help you identify what changes you want to make, available options for problem resolution, and how to create the real change you want in your life. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and I currently live in KY. I have been in the field of mental health for over 27 years and I am passionate about my work. I have a Master’s degree in both Psychological Counseling and Clinical Psychology. Very early in my career, I made it my mission to work in as many different treatment settings as possible, so that I could understand the unique therapeutic needs of clients in each setting. Therefore, I have worked in mental health and substance abuse settings such as outpatient, inpatient, residential, and partial hospitalization. Being a counselor in these various treatment settings allowed me to gain valuable experience in working within the full range of psychiatric disorders. For example, I have worked with issues and concerns such as depression, anxiety, ineffective communication, excessive worry, codependency, relationship problems, social anxiety, substance abuse, interpersonal difficulties/conflicts, anger management, OCD, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD and PTSD. I see my role as your teammate, a compassionate partner that will work alongside you as you move through your therapeutic journey. The primary type of therapeutic techniques I use come from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). It is a type of therapy that helps us understand how we became the versions of ourselves that we are today. In understanding how early experiences played a part in creating the chronic negative beliefs that have continued to cause problems for us today, we can learn new ways of thinking that will help us resolve our issues, change the way we think, and learn to live our lives in ways that are more fulfilling. If you are ready for a teammate that will support you, educate you, help you learn new ways to deal with old/new problems, be a good listener, show compassion, empower you and meet you where you are, then take the next step by scheduling our first session.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about therapists and mental health services

Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Clay area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling with a therapist compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Clay therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Clay due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300
  • Therapy with a psychologist: $100

While many psychologists in Clay may not take health insurance, some in the state of Kentucky may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With a BetterHelp therapist throughout the state of Kentucky you can expect significantly more affordable options, with therapists sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks).

While their lived experience, expertise, careers, and background vary, therapists here all possess at least 3 years and 1,000 hours of hands-on experience with adult and sometimes teen patients, and have the necessary therapist credentials to provide a safe space for long lasting emotional healing in therapy.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Clay?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Clay therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors and therapists are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Clay therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Clay therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in KY, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles or therapists above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 42404 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Clay counselor?

Before seeing your Clay therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Clay therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Clay licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Clay counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Clay, Kentucky can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Clay has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
