Keisha Wood
Hello and welcome to my page, my name is Keisha. I love helping people solve their problems and meet their goals. I would love the chance to get to know you and help you to be the best version of yourself that you can be. I am a LCSW—Licensed Certified Social Worker in Arkansas; I have a bachelors and masters degree in social work; I earned my Master’s Degree from the University of Tennessee in 2005. However, I have been working in the social work field since 2003. I have experience working in a variety of settings (outpatient, school-based, hospital, home health). I've helped children and families as well as adults of all ages. I began conducting online therapy in 2016. I fell in love with this new format of therapy! Outside of BetterHelp I have a private practice that I also run outside of my home. My counseling approach is warm, relaxed and individualized to best meet your needs. I prefer an interactive style to build on your existing strengths. I like to use a variety of evidenced-based approaches, focusing on education to ensure you have the tools and skills needed to help yourself. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and solution-focused counseling, and positive psychology. I will tailor our dialogue and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. I am committed to approaching your presenting issue with dignity, respect, empathy, and without judgement. As my client, you will be supported but also challenged in order to develop insight and self-awareness into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Therapy is not just about talking. It is also about learning positive strategies to help facilitate coping, enhance the ability to work through life’s struggles and challenges, and build resilience. Please be selective about the counselor/therapist you choose. It is an important choice and you need to feel comfortable with whomever you choose. Reaching out for help takes a lot of courage and you have already taken such an important first step. I am here to support you towards change and a happier life. I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals! Being a professional on this platform, it is my goal to contact you within at least 24 hours of receiving a message from you. However, there are times where a 25-72 hour window may be necessary such as the weekend (please note that the weekend takes place each Friday-Sunday so that messages received during this time will be addressed on Monday). Rest assured, I will always get back to you. In the meantime, I would like for you to familiarize yourself with my schedule of availability. There, you can schedule to contact me for a live chat session. If there is a day/time that is not available, but you would like to check to see if it may be available, but you would like to check to see if it may be available do not hesitate to reach out to me via your chat room. I'll let you know if scheduling that day/time is feasible. Also, keep in mind that this forum does not provide any type of emergency services. Susan Walker
Hello! I am so glad you are here and look forward to getting to know you and your goals for therapy. I am a licensed mental health counselor with over 15 years of clinical experience. My interpersonal style is warm, empathetic, and professional. I am highly interested and engaged with the process of understanding and helping. Below is a bit about my background: Therapy Approach: My clinical and interpersonal style is warm, casual, empathetic, and always professional. My overarching approach tends to transcend theory and embrace the foundational skills of active listening, gentle redirecting, validation, and staying connected while confronting issues that need attention. I tend to think holistically and spiritually. Theoretical applications I use include Person-Centered, some aspects of Cognitive Behavioral, and Psychodynamic, as each client is multi- layered and more than one theory or technique may be useful. Primarily my theoretical lens is Existential, grounded in the idea that we as human beings are faced with making meaning of our environment, understanding ourselves, and the realization that we can direct our lives. There is challenge in this but also great freedom. Technical Options: I am potentially a good match for those who are interested in Live Chat Typing Sessions or Phone Sessions. When I discovered that Video sessions were causing some eye strain and switched to Live Chat Typing Sessions and Phone Sessions I was pleasantly surprised that the richness and texture of therapy was not reduced. In some ways there is even more connection and clarity. Areas of Clinical Specialty include but aren't limited to the following: Grief/Bereavement Pregnancy Loss/Infant Loss Anxiety Social Anxiety Depression Spiritual Issues Life Transitions Career and Professional Concerns Trauma History Chronic Illness Sexuality issues Parenting Issues It is often in high pitched pain or struggle that one finds her/his/theirself seeking therapy. I am sensitive to this process and strive always to create a comfortable, relaxed therapeutic space. My experience includes providing therapy to those with trauma histories at a residential facility, counseling college students with issues of identity, sexuality, and life transitions at a university counseling center, and several years providing therapy to those with anxiety/depression, grief/bereavement, and other issues of clinical concern at an outpatient mental health clinic. I consider it a privilege to help clients from all backgrounds from their place of difficulty to a healthy realization of their goals. [To save prospective clients from unnecessary consideration, I want to alert you that I am available for Short-term Therapy only, as I will be leaving the Better Help platform in Mid-August. If your sense is that you have an issue or concern that can be addressed over a period of a few months, then please read on. Otherwise, I am not able to be of use to you.] My work has focused on families, and I love helping clients work through areas of conflict, misunderstanding, stress, and anger and arriving at improved communication, and a more confident sense of self and appreciation of their own abilities to make change and solve problems that arise. As a home-based family therapist, I worked with a wide variety of clients and their issues. I became more of a "jack of all trades" than an expert in a particular method of therapy. For me, that has meant being responsive to and learning about many different issues clients face, and utilizing a variety of approaches. My strengths as a therapist are in my ability to listen, and to help uncover patterns of thought and behavior that have not worked well for clients, and to encourage them to try different approaches. A core belief of mine is that the client knows him/her/themself best, and has the capacity to problem solve. I don't "fix" people, I accompany them on their journey for a time, and offer support, guidance and insight as clients tell their stories. My role is to hold up a mirror and shed light on the dynamics and situations that clients bring into therapy. My approach is warm and direct. I appreciate the value of a sense of humor, while respecting the seriousness of client concerns. I am in my mid-seventies - a good euphemism for that is, "I'm a 'seasoned' clinician"! I went to social work school when my youngest child went to college. Prior to that I worked in a street ministry for urban homeless people; work that I loved, but also found grueling over time. As the parent of five children, and with a strong family life and focus, I found family work to be both a good fit and very rewarding. I have Certificates in Trauma-Informed Therapy, and in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. Attachment Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing are other areas of interest and were part of my advanced studies. Recently, I co-facilitated a support group for four years, focused initially on the needs of in-home family caregivers dealing with the ill-health of a partner or aging parent, then shifting to coping with parental relationships with adult children suffering from mental illness and/or substance abuse that prevented them from functioning well in the wider world without ongoing parental support.
