ABOUT ME I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with over 3 years experience in the mental health care field. I received a Master’s degree in Clinical Counseling from Oakland University and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. I have also obtained a Master’s degree in Human Resources Administration from Central Michigan University, which lends itself to understanding many issues that occur in the workplace including bullying and competition for resources. These workplace issues can result in symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression in some clients. I am also a fully trained and experienced EMDR therapist. I have a diverse background in the mental healthcare field. I have worked with all age clients in an intensive outpatient program, clients in an outpatient rehabilitation clinic, seniors in an assisted living environment, and adults ages 18 and up in a large private practice. WHY WORK WITH A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL? Slowing down, if even for an hour, and sharing your story with a professional may help start the process of gaining personal clarity and understanding. You may not be able to change the past, but you may be able to begin to learn from it and move forward. The process of working through traumas with a professional counselor can be liberating. You can learn to establish new ways of thinking, new behaviors, and an improved sense of direction. Your unique situation deserves to be explored as you experience it. Trouble, chaos, regret, difficulty, trial, cheating, worry, doubt, sadness, and a feeling of brokenness, can all eventually lead to a feelings of powerlessness. Things can improve, there is hope, and I want to join you in your journey toward that improvement. During the counseling process, I desire to walk beside every person who chooses to visit with me. I strive to create a caring and supportive environment where anyone in need of counseling can sit with a mental health professional and regain a sense of control in their lives. Every relationship, every emotion, and every story you are a part of matters – every life is important. I want to help you reflect on your life events and to help you gain perspective, escape lies, embrace your inner truth, experience joy, and discover or rediscover purpose in your life. If a painful past caused you to embrace and believe a story that just isn’t your truth, then I want to work with you as you discover a realistic perspective of yourself and obtain goals that match that realistic perspective. Reach out to me today to schedule an appointment for your first session. SPECIALTIES • Anxiety • Trauma Recovery • Depression • Grief and Loss • Identity Development • Low Self-Worth • Mood and Thought Disruptions • Life Stage Transition and the Aging Process THERAPY APPROACH This depends on the situation and the issues each client is requesting assistance with. Hi, my name is Connie Owens and I am a licensed therapist with more than 20 years of experience in helping others. During these 2+ decades, I have obtained a medical license to practice in multiple states and learned that while being evidence-based trained is helpful it is better to be evidence-based informed. It is a fact that we are each unique and that what works for one may not work for another. That is why I utilize a Holistic Approach; I fully understand that to heal the whole you, we must treat the whole you. In all facets of therapy, we will address the 4 human interdependent parts; Mind, Body, Soul, and Spirit. I have experience in various areas from birth-death (or Hospice). I am a Certified Clinical Trauma Therapist with several years of experience in helping others overcome trauma. And, it is hard these days not to mention trauma without discussing Narcissistic Abuse, which I also specialize in. I have helped hundreds of women and men not only break free from Narcissistic Abuse but also break the cycle so it does not happen again. Additionally, I also have many years of experience in Christian Counseling, Substance Use Disorders, Relationship Issues, Grief and Loss, Mental Health, Individual Therapy, and Group Therapy. More recently (although I have implemented these principles all along) I have wrapped up my Certification in Functional Nutrition and can now add to my resume that I am a Board Certified Holistic Mental Health Practitioner. Nutrition is only 1 area of focus with me. Your mental health is affected by everything you are exposed to so together we will address those things and come up with a plan that works for you so you can live your best quality of life. My approach is gentle, yet direct. I will always meet you where you are and respect all of your beliefs and values. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. My overall treatment approach is a Holistic Approach that utilizes CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic, Motivational Interviewing, and Biblical Principles and Truths for those looking for Christ -Centered Therapy- AKA an Eclectic Approach. It takes courage to ask for help and commit to make changes, to improve your quality of life. I get that, so when you're ready I am here to empower you in your healing journey by supporting you and teaching you how to do it. One thing I'd like you to remember is-If you put in the work you will get the results.

Hi! I’m glad you’re here. Life can be hard and confusing and scary. You may be feeling overwhelmed or you’re struggling with low self-worth and self-doubt. Maybe you’re having difficulty in your relationships with friends, family or partner(s). Perhaps you’re struggling to identify and express your emotions. Add to that, despite all of the positives associated with social media, many people are feeling more isolated and alone than ever. I specialize in treating people struggling with depression, anxiety and trauma as well as life transitions such as navigating college, careers and relationships. My goal is to offer a space where you feel safe and supported in sharing all of you. You can tell me anything. I offer a non-judgmental, affirming approach to therapy. I love working collaboratively with individuals to explore and process thoughts, experiences, issues and triggers. We will explore your goals and work towards them together. Many people I work with find me to be easy to talk to and a “calming” presence. I have clients who I laugh and joke with as we work together and nothing makes me happier than being there next to someone as they become healthier, happier, stronger and more confident. I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to see if we might be a good fit.

I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Marriage Couples and Family Counseling, with an emphasis in Crisis and Trauma Counseling. My experience ranges with many different age groups, an I have worked with a diverse client base over the past 12 years. I started off working with Survivors of Sexual Trauma, Domestic Violence, and Human Trafficking. I have worked with children, adolescents, Teens, young adults, adults and the Elderly, providing Individual Therapy, Family Therapy and Couples Therapy, with extensive experience in Group Therapy for adolescents and adults. As well as individual and group therapy for adolescents with substance abuse/addictions. I am currently adding in a focus of Perinatal Mental Health. As I have continued in this field, I have educated myself as much as possible to be able to work with different cultures, races and minorities in order to better serve more populations of individuals who may not have been able to receive the help and the support they need. My Theoretical Foundation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, however, I integrate other Theories and interventions in order to meet the individual needs of clients. These include Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Social Learning Theory and Gottman's Sound Relationship House Theory. I am trained in TF-CBT (Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. My approach is Client Centered, with my focus being on the Client and the Client's needs. I work with the Client to identify goals, and work together with the the client to achieve these goals. As a Therapist, I listen, I help identify challenges, process feelings, and help problem solve and then Client takes action to create change. This is not easy, and trusting this process can be difficult, and I never ask my clients to do anything that I would do myself. I am a trauma survivor and because of my experience, I chose to be therapist in order to help others, because it can be difficult to understand the feelings that accompany trauma unless you have lived through a traumatic event yourself. My hope is to create a safe space where Clients can seek help, feel listened to, feel respected, and hopefully find answers and learn new things to help them cope with the challenges that they have been facing. I am flexible throughout the day with my work schedule which can change from day to day. I do not work on the weekends, and will not be able to answer any messages until Monday. Please let me know what works with your schedule and I will do my best to accommodate you. In some cases I may be able to book sessions the same week of enrollment. Not always and appointments may be a week out. I do have set times in the evenings and weekends for appointments that are consistent. I check my messages multiple times throughout the day, and will respond as quickly as my schedule allows. At times I am very busy and cannot answer right away. I will answer as soon as I can, generally within 24-48 hours. Please know that when I respond, it does not mean I am available for a back and forth chat in the portal. I am responding as quickly as I can between sessions and I am not able to answer each message immediately. If you have an emergency please reach out to your local services for immediate assistance. As I am not able to respond to emergencies or immediate needs. I want to make sure you have the help you need right away.
