Renee Wells
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Board Certified and Licensed Behavior Analyst (BCBA) with over 20 years of professional experience in the mental health field. My counseling style is non-judgmental, collaborative, and compassionate. I provide a safe environment in therapy so that you are able to truly share what is on your mind. I specialize in helping individuals break free from fears, anxiety and stress that hold them back. These fears are often rooted in trauma, loss and other events. They tend to limit the ability to process emotionally difficult information. One of the ways I treat these symptoms is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) as part of an overall treatment strategy. I often combine other methods such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT Dialectical Behavior Therapy), and other evidence based practices to ensure the best outcomes. It’s my honor to share this important time in your life. I look forward to meeting you!

Hello! My name is Ivy and welcome to BetterHelp! Finding a therapist can be somewhat of an overwhelming experience for some and I do believe it is important that you find the right fit for you, as I have also been down this road myself and it took me some time to find the right fit too! As a therapist, I believe it is a privilege to be invited into someone's journey. I hope to provide a space for you that feels safe, supportive, and non-judgmental, where you feel heard. This will hopefully allow you to make progress during our time together. A little background on me- I am a Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Michigan. I have been working in the field of mental health for approximately ten years with a diverse group of individuals of all ages from varying backgrounds and circumstances. I have experience working with children and families, adolescents, and adults with pervasive mental illness, such as schizophrenia. I have also worked with victims/survivors of domestic violence and/or sexual assault. My therapeutic approach really depends on you and your identified needs. I believe attachment style and unresolved trauma can play a large role in our relationship with ourselves and others and symptoms of depression and anxiety may be a secondary result. I believe in getting to the root of the issue, as this is where I believe healing can begin. I hope that you feel safe to reach out with any questions you might have for me. And please know that it is ok if you decide that I am not the right fit for you, as I want you to work with someone who you feel comfortable sitting alongside. Just know you have taken a step in a positive direction!

I also have experience working with couples and families. I have worked in Behavioral Health for 15 years, including outpatient mental health, substance use, prisoner re-entry, private practice and veterans. Some clinical issues I have the most experience in include depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, parenting issues, postpartum depression and stress management. My main focus in treatment is establishing a therapeutic relationship with the person first and foremost as I believe having a good connection helps facilitate effective counseling and provides the best outcomes. I am supportive, compassionate, and present with individuals both in difficult times as well as times of achievement and growth. I make sure to meet each individual where they are at and actively listen to and respect where they would like to see themselves in the future through therapy. I believe in working collaboratively with individuals on their treatment goals is a top priority throughout treatment. I encourage open communication when discussing therapeutic techniques and approaches that work best for the person so as to ensure the best therapeutic experience. My counseling style combines client centered, cognitive-behavioral, trauma focused and solution-focused approaches to help individuals achieve their goals. We will work on your strengths and coping skills that can be used to help work through various issues that you may be experiencing. I value all individual therapeutic relationships and fully empathize with the different emotions a client may experience throughout treatment. I believe that each individual has the ability to overcome any issue or barrier but that sometimes having additional support through therapy can help one to better gain and utilize the coping skills and strengths they have already learned. . Taking steps in creating a happier and healthier you can be a big change and I would be honored to help you in your journey!

I am a Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years experience with assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. My educational foundation include such theories as, family systems, psychodynamic, free association, and strength based concepts. The first ten years of my career focused on suicide assessment, and trauma treatment of children ages 4-17. Many of these children had severe mental illness and came from abusive homes, and from a diverse population all over the Detroit, MI area. I worked for many different community mental health agencies as well as school systems throughout this time. I wanted to join the Army after college, but was told by an Army recruiter that I would not pass the physical test due to a bad knee. After some time and investigation, I decided to join the Army as an Officer and Social Worker. The next ten years of my Active Duty career would focus on suicide risk assessment, and trauma treatment of Soldiers and their families. The military wanted a solution focused approach to treatment of Soldiers, and I would eventually adapt to this support using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy concepts to treat nightmares and sleep. I was also trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy as evidence based approach for PTSD treatment. My style is calm, collected, and perceptive. I have accurate empathy to offer, and practice with respect and dignity and privacy. I will go at your pace, but will not bullshit you about what needs to happen for change. Change comes through the relationship, and this is not the same as advice you can get from a friend. Social Work is a purpose for me, not just a job or means to some other end. I want to thank you all ahead of time for giving me the chance to know you, letting me into the most vulnerable places of your life!

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Fountain counselor?
Before seeing your Fountain therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Fountain therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.
Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Fountain licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Fountain counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Fountain, Michigan can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Fountain has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
