Hello and Welcome! Seeking counseling and opening up to a total stranger takes courage and can be scary. Give yourself a pat on the back for coming here. My approach is client-centered, which means it’s all about you. I do not have a pre-conceived agenda or formula. I will listen to your concerns and ask you what your goals are, and we’ll start there. If you aren’t even sure about your goals, that’s ok too, we’ll work together to sort things out. My approach is warm, caring and genuine. I will not give pat answers or advice. You probably have already heard them all. Instead, I will work with you to look at what needs to change and provide support as you work on those changes. We will work together as you work on the issues that brought you here. I have experience with many areas of concern, such as depression, stress, family issues, coping with health issues, abuse and trauma, grief and loss. I have a vast background in child mental health and working/consulting with parents who seek help with parenting. I am also a Registered Nurse (although this is not a medical site). I mention I’m a nurse as the two careers have given me amazing opportunities to work with people in a wide variety of settings. The best part of my Nursing career was Hospice nursing, where I learned to be a great listener as I walked with families through some of their most difficult moments. I have a Masters in Social Work (MSW) from Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan, and I currently live in Michigan. You can message me anytime of the day/night through the BetterHelp site. I check messages 3-4 times a day Monday through Friday and will get back to you as soon as possible. Having said that, please let me know if my schedule does not fit your needs and I will try to work out a time that works for the both of us.

WHY WORK WITH A MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL? Slowing down, if even for an hour, and sharing your story with a professional may help start the process of gaining personal clarity and understanding. You may not be able to change the past, but you may be able to begin to learn from it and move forward. The process of working through traumas with a professional counselor can be liberating. You can learn to establish new ways of thinking, new behaviors, and an improved sense of direction. Your unique situation deserves to be explored as you experience it. Trouble, chaos, regret, difficulty, trial, cheating, worry, doubt, sadness, and a feeling of brokenness, can all eventually lead to a feelings of powerlessness. Things can improve, there is hope, and I want to join you in your journey toward that improvement. During the counseling process, I desire to walk beside every person who chooses to visit with me. I strive to create a caring and supportive environment where anyone in need of counseling can sit with a mental health professional and regain a sense of control in their lives. Every relationship, every emotion, and every story you are a part of matters – every life is important. I want to help you reflect on your life events and to help you gain perspective, escape lies, embrace your inner truth, experience joy, and discover or rediscover purpose in your life. If a painful past caused you to embrace and believe a story that just isn’t your truth, then I want to work with you as you discover a realistic perspective of yourself and obtain goals that match that realistic perspective. Reach out to me today to schedule an appointment for your first session. My background includes 28 years as a medical social worker, and early years working with children and adults in psychiatric settings. I am new to remote work and look forward to learning and growing with you. My focus is on how we as people are always trying to do what we think is best for our own safety, survival, and happiness. Yet we can feel unhappy, anxious, and have behaviors we want to change. I believe we are many parts that make one whole person, and it is helpful to recognize each part of ourselves. In sorting through each aspect of ourselves, we find a way toward happiness and healing. Life has many opportunities for happiness. But our feelings and experiences can make us doubt our worth and ability to feel joy. As a therapist I try to be a partner in your journey to discover those parts of life and yourself you can trust and enjoy. My techniques are learning from you, research and application of any therapeutic approach you may find helpful and finding resources in your world to help meet your goals. I follow established social work theories of psychosocial development, systems theory, and the strengths perspective of psychotherapy.
