Starting therapy can be a scary thing. For some people they may see it as admitting to being broken or too weak to handle their problems on their own. Others may see therapy as a waste of time or money. In reality we just need help or feel like the world is just too confusing and scary to understand or cope with. That makes total sense if we stop and look at the world around us. Sometimes life hits us so hard that we don't know what to do next. And I am here to help you figure it out along the way. Quick facts about me: My chosen name is Jess (my name right now has to match my professional license on here) 33 years old, Married, I have 2 young children. Non-binary transfemme she/they Trauma and Abuse History Autistic/ADHD My own style of counseling is more casual and I tend to use humor quite a bit. There is nothing you could do or say to shock or offend me; so don't worry about that and use what ever language you like.

I work with all individuals from diverse backgrounds with depression, anxiety, identity/ self-esteem issues, addiction/recovery, trauma, and family relation issues. I use an empowerment and empathetic approach to therapy. I integrate multiple evidence-based modalities such as cognitive/dialectical therapy (DBT/CBT), trauma focused, brief therapy, mindfulness, positive psychology, and solution-focused therapy. Treatment should always be catered your uniqueness and I never use a “cookie cutter” approach. Congratulations on taking that first step, it's usually the hardest one to take. I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) in Michigan and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Colorado. I have over 14 years experience working with professionals dealing with life stressors and over 5 years providing support and coaching. A main focus in my treatment is establishing a therapeutic alliance with the client. I believe having a good connection helps facilitate effective counseling and provides the best outcomes. I am supportive, compassionate, and am present. I make sure to meet each individual where they are at and actively listen to and respect where they would like to see themselves in the future with the help of therapy. I have found that there are times when all of us need an ear to lean on - I am an expert at being that ear. There are areas of our lives that we may find we are stuck or just need to sound it out - and our family and friends have heard it so many times that they tend to agree with us, rather than provide new insights. My wish is to be able to provide those insights for you to break through whatever may be holding you back - be it work situations, self-concept issues, or clouded thinking. I have successfully used cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), emotional freedom techniques (EFT), and self-assessments and questioning to help others move through blocks and obtain greater clarity in their lives.

As a seasoned therapist working well over thirty years helping a diversified population from school age children their families to working with mentally-ill patients and providing substance abuse treatment to individuals and group therapy providing these services as career is very full feeling. Those whom are in need of getting their life back together is always a challenge and can be very stressful. So therefore, the approach to counseling requires different methods to the person needs depending on what is going on in their lives. Working with individuals does require different approaches such as cognitive/supportive/confrontational therapy to reach their ability to function well. It's always hard to ask for Help and open up to someone whom you do not know but the benefits can be very rewarding. If I can be of professional assistance to you please reach out and we can work together on these changes.

I am a therapist licensed in Ohio and Michigan with over 20 years of experience working as a counselor. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, career challenges, and substance abuse disorders. I’ve also helped many people who have experienced trauma and emotional abuse. My therapy style is warm and interactive. I believe strongly in authenticity, intuition, and in movement toward self-actualization. I think it’s important to relate to everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, though I also believe in gentle confrontation when it’s needed. I don't rely on stigmatizing labels, as I find them limiting. My approach is eclectic – a mix of cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, psychodynamic and rational-emotive therapy. I believe that you already have the answers to what you need within you; and my role is to help facilitate bringing those answers to the surface by being supportive and helping you to feel empowered to change. It takes a lot of courage to seek a more gratifying and satisfying life and to begin to move toward change. (Nothing changes if nothing changes.) If you feel like you are ready, I am here and excited to join you on your journey! :)
