Erastus Beebe and his two brothers set out in 1835 to create a new town in the wilderness of Michigan. Thus, began Beebe’s Corners, which in 1878 joined with the two neighboring cities of Cooper Town and Ridgeway to be the Village of Richmond. The city has many historic buildings including the First Congregational Church, the Donley Family Log Cabin, Grand Trunk Railroad, and a small schoolhouse built in 1885.

First, Hello-Hi, Welcome- I am so glad you are here! Good listener, understanding, non- judgmental are all qualities I embody to ensure everyone I work with does not feel judged- but understood and heard and I know you will find that here. I strive to make things as comfortable as possible and to go at your pace- after all, this is all for you. Therapy can be...well pretty awkward and uncomfortable at times- lets work together and push through that! I am a born and raised “ Yooper” here in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and other than a few years spent away for Graduate school I have lived in the U.P. I earned my Bachelors in Social work from Northern Michigan University and my Masters in Social Work from Grand Valley State University. While in school I worked as a care aid serving adults who suffered with mental illness, a waitress and in customer services at retail stores. For my final internship in Graduate school I spent a year working as an intern in an Emergency Department in a low-income neighborhood that also served as the surrounding areas Trauma center. While there I primarily worked with individuals who struggled with mental illness, addiction, nursing home placements and often traumas (car accidents, gun and gang violence). For the past 10 years I have worked as a Qualified Mental Health Professional working for the Department of Corrections- while most of my time is spent working with individuals who suffer from mental illness and adjustment issues/concerns a majority of my experience is facilitating groups for individuals who committed sexual offenses. I take great pride in being able to be objective even in the most heinous of times while building rapport with my clients while working together towards a common goal- a better life. My main background is working from the Cognitive Behavioral Model which works on changing the way ones thinks about a situation and in return changing the thoughts and feelings as well. I am a firm believer that thoughts lead to feelings lead to behavior and if as individuals we can change our initial thoughts, our feelings and behavior that follows will ultimately change as well- for the better that is. If you are looking for help and want to find someone who will meet you where you are, make you feel comfortable- I am ready to work with you! We are all busy, right? I offer messaging/live chats only, which creates a 'as needed' approach, where you can message me when you want and not feel pressured to have 'something' to talk about once a week. With Live chats, they are in real time where we message back and forth in a chat room and we can really get into some issues/concerns without the pressure of sitting down and talking to your phone/computer. I find these two methods very beneficial and saves on your valuable time since both can be done from anywhere!

I completed my Master of Social Work degree in April of 1998 while working full-time . I had begun volunteering at a domestic violence shelter and was looking at methods for helping these at -risk families. My first job post Master's degree was working in the foster care system. That led me to a better understanding of child welfare, family dynamics, and the legal system. I then moved back to my hometown in northeast Michigan to work as an infant mental health specialist. This opportunity gave me more skill in working with trauma, family therapy, and being comfortable in the client's own home. My work at the local hospital's behavioral health services expanded my ability to provide individual psychotherapy to people of all ages and background. I also developed proficiancy in working with in-patient units for substance abuse and mental illness. during my employment there. My move to the VA was a wonderful journey and extremely educational. At this point in my life I feel that my knowledge, background, and skills has made me a well rounded therapist. I am comfortable utilizing different modalities with a variety of clients.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I have worked with individuals with mental health issues in both a hospital and private practice settings for over 20 years. You can read more about my background, education, experience and therapy approach by clicking on my name above our messages. I generally check messages here a few times per day Monday through Saturday and usually respond as quickly as I can. I do appreciate your patience when it takes a bit longer at times, as I may be tending to other clients or professional/personal responsibilities. I do my best job helping clients through Christ-centered, Spirit-led counseling. This is counseling that addresses our root issues by reaching and treating the core of our three-part beings–,humans being spirit, soul and body. I believe most of our problems can be dealt with just by bringing your thoughts, attitudes and beliefs out and into the light through Client-Centered Therapy. It is then where we can see and treat the real issues using a combination of Solution-Focused Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This is just a few of the simple way of bringing relief and answers to what has been bothering you. I believe that I can help you with what has been weighing on you and get you back on track to the kind of life you deserve.
