Emotional pain destroys your enjoyment of everyday life. You know there’s a different way to think about life. Yet, you don’t know how to alter the mistaken thoughts behind your sadness and anxiety. You wish the world would change, but you know nothing will be any different until your mental health
improves.
Lake Gervais in Little Canada was named for one of its earliest French-Canadian settlers. If the settlement of your life is overrun with distressing emotions, you can’t make a personal home of peace. Talk to a counselor in the Little Canada area to settle your thoughts into tranquility.

Katherine Bonham
I've been working in mental health and addictions since 2010 and licensed since 2013, working completely in the state of Minnesota, but with a range from Moorhead to Minneapolis through my career. I love the work I do and can genuinely never say "I've seen it all." Things are constantly changing in the field and I'm really driven to keep up with the shifts. I have a BA in psychology and earned my MS in counseling with a graduate certificate in addictions studies in 2013. My first experience in the mental health field outside of the classroom was doing research for trauma-informed care in a group therapy setting and since then I have pursued additional training and would consider myself a trauma specialist. Aside from trauma I'm a licensed alcohol and drug counselor and have extensive experience working with depression, anxiety, change of life stage concerns, and stress management. The only thing you need to work with me is a willingness to try and the ability to be honest with me and with yourself. Through my time in the field I have worked with clients as young as 5 and as old as 97 with nearly every diagnosis in nearly every setting. I am passionate about teaching individuals skills that they can practice daily and providing psycho-education to make sure the individual I'm working with understands what I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and how it's going to help them specifically. Outside of the professional realm I really work to practice what I preach. I make my best efforts to go to the gym regularly, connect with my friends and family,, and spend quality time with my dog and my hobbies. I love trying new recipes and exploring the extensive "green spaces" in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area. A former weightlifting coach of mine said "If you can do it for a minute, you can do it for a lifetime." He was talking about weighted walking lunges, but it applies to any changes you want to make to your life. If you'll have me, I'd love to join you on whatever journey you're looking to take.

Some of the many issues I have worked with people on are depression, anxiety, self-harm, addiction, trauma, parenting problems, relationship issues, ADHD, sexual abuse, pornography addiction, and anger management. My therapeutic style is to first listen to your story. You are the expert on your life, and I am here to listen to that experience. I try to treat everyone with respect, dignity, compassion, and understanding. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, solution focused, Bowenian, motivational interviewing, and rational-emotive behavioral therapy methods. I believe in a client-centered collaborative approach in which I work to understand needs and goals that are specific to you. Your specific goals will guide our discussion and formulate your treatment plan. We all have times in our life when we could use some perspective and help with reaching our goals. We will work together to create a treatment plan and interventions that are unique to your situation. I welcome the opportunity to assist you in reaching your goals. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the states of Wisconsin and Minnesota. My graduate school training was from Winona State University in Winona, MN. I worked in a private practice mental health agency there in Winona for three years, in addition to serving in a residential treatment facility assisting adults in recovery from mental health crises back to independent living. I am currently meeting with out-patient clients in a new counseling agency in La Crosse, Wisconsin. I have worked with people from all walks of life facing difficult and unexpected challenges, causing a variety of mental health issues. I work with a Person-Centered approach and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, along with Strength-Based modalities. I like to identify strengths in people and help them grow. The therapeutic relationship between client and counselor offers a strong foundation to assist clients in recovering balance in life and the freedom to move ahead on a more peaceful journey. I know life can be rough at times, but with help, it can also be better! Some may be desiring a Christian-based therapy, and that is also an option we can incorporate.

Dr. Jennifer Gildner
Hi there! Thanks for taking a look at my services. I am licensed to meet with people in Washington and California. I am scheduled for video/phone sessions Monday through Wednesday, check messages each weekday, and I am not scheduled to meet or check messages at weekends. If this schedule works for you, I hope you'll continue reading to get an idea about how I work with clients. Empowerment occurs when we transform intention to action. I have a collaborative yet challenging approach in my work with individual clients. Your mind is where intention moves toward action. I see it as my job to help you find answers that are already within you from a strengths-based approach. Because we are working together collaboratively, you have the freedom to express what you need from psychotherapy and I will want to spend time exploring how your cultural background impacts your presenting concerns. You're also in therapy for change and that's where my ability to challenge you comes in. I can provide a positive relationship in which you can learn about yourself and grow. Further, mindfulness is a large part of how I approach our work together, particularly as you are working toward new thoughts and behaviors with the goal of improving your life in general. If all this sounds like what you're looking for, I look forward to hearing from you!
