Hi, I am Karen Memhardt, MA, Med, LPC, a Licensed Professional Counselor and Psychological Examiner. I have master’s degrees in Professional counseling, School counseling, and Psychological Examiner and teaching. Treatment is approached from a holistic spiritual basis to treat the whole family environment. Psychodynamic psychotherapy and educational counseling principals are integrated with various techniques and therapies to discover the cause of the psychological or behavioral disturbance, incorporating modalities of individual, family, and group counseling therapies to relieve stress and anxiety to a level of comfort desired in your family, work or school environment. Working together, we find the internal and external stressors and eliminate them or find ways to make them manageable for a successful life as measured by you. I use psychodynamic psychotherapy, a form of depth psychology, with the primary focus to reveal the unconscious content of your psyche in an effort to alleviate psychic tension. In this way it is similar to psychoanalysis. It also relies on the interpersonal relationship between client and therapist more than other forms of depth psychology. In terms of approach this form of therapy tends to be more eclectic, taking techniques from a variety of sources, rather than relying on a single system of intervention. It is used in individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, family therapy, and to understand and work with institutional and organizational contexts. CBT, Cognitive Behavioral and Neo Cognitive behavioral therapy is used to help you reframe thoughts to more effectively manage feelings and behaviors, and to restructure negative thoughts into a positive thought process to improve self-esteem and self-motivation. Brief therapy is used to address a specific issue in eight to ten sessions. I would ask you to participate in your therapy by asking you to do homework in-between sessions. For example I would ask you the following questions to prepare for our first session: Have you been to a counselor before? A counselor can be a useful tool. I would hope we can build a relationship that you would be able to trust in to discuss your feelings, hopes and goals to help you move forward with a new plan for your life. If you can use me as a sounding board, and use me to help you make some important decisions, this will help you have an easier time with all of your life issues. I am here to help you figure out what is best for you moving forward. What we discuss is confidential. What would you like to discuss with me today? What would you say is the main reason you are wanting to talk today? What are your long term goals for your living arrangement, relationships and your career? Do you have any techniques for helping you to relax? How are you feeling today? For a Brief therapy session I would ask you to imagine you go to sleep tonight, and while you are sleeping, a miracle happens so when you wake up tomorrow morning and everything in your life is exactly how you want your life to be, what would it look like?

Taking the step to participate in therapy/counseling takes tremendous courage and desire for something in one's life to be different. As a therapist, my job is to create an atmosphere that encourages alliance between therapist and client, a key component for successful therapy. I consider myself primarily a generalist in types of clients I work with as I have worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and groups. The therapy relationship makes the theory and techniques used most effective. Building this is the first task in a therapeutic relationship. Through this alliance clients and I venture on a journey often anxiety-provoking (as any/all change is) and develop skills and strategies to managed problems and resolve difficulties. Hello, my name is Karen Kavaloski and I am a LPC in New Mexico, North Carolina and in Missouri. I was originally licensed as a counselor in 2009 while working in Arizona by the State of North Carolina after making a career change from a almost 30 year history in nursing. My passion since I was a young adult was counseling and it took me almost 30 years to achieve my goal of becoming a counselor. I was a Marine wife for almost 30 years and have traveled allot, I have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. My youngest, a son, and one of my grandchildren are severely autistic so I can identify with the stress and struggles some families have with managing special needs within their family. I am also a cancer survivor. I believe we all have an ability to heal the body, mind and soul and I consciously strive daily to be an active participant in my life and support and encourage others to do the same. My education beyond my nursing and counseling includes a Masters in Business Administration and a Doctorate in (Christian) Ministries. I have worked primarily over this past 15 years with trauma and substance abuse in the adult population with about 3 years working with the teenage population in these areas. I also have worked about 5 years total with prison reentry and counseling individuals and families with histories of incarceration in state and federal prison. I believe in working with individuals and families to achieve their highest goals. I believe the client is the expert in his/her own life and I fully encourage one to strive to work towards building a strong foundation within themselves and their families whatever that looks like to them, to that end I use focused solution therapy, internal systems therapy, mindfulness/compassion therapy, cognitive and cognitive behavioral, dialectical therapy, emotional freedom techniques and/or neurolinguistic techniques . Outside my therapy practice, I spend my leisure time reading. meditation/praying and gardening. I do light exercise daily.

Jeffrey Ayers
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 6 years of experience in the field of mental health. After a 7 year stint working for the United States Postal Service, I decided to go back to school to help people with their problems. I have an Associate of Science degree from Brazosport College. I have an Associate of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Columbia College. I have my Master of Education degree in Counseling, a Graduate Certificate in College Student Mental Health, and my Education Specialist degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a school psychological examiner and a Kindergarten through 12th grade School Counselor. I completed all my provisional license hours at Lincoln University in their counseling center providing pro bono counseling to the community and college students. My counseling style is warm and receptive, I feel establishing the client/counselor relationship is paramount to success during the therapeutic process. I feel we are all unique individuals and counseling must be tailored to each specific client. I am well experienced in career counseling and traditional counseling using mindfulness based-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I use an integrated approach to find out what will work best with each client I am working with. There are many stigmas associated with seeing a counselor, one of the most harmful being that someone who seeks help is weak, it is my goal to shatter that stereotype and help my clients find their path in life that they can accomplish all they wish to and more.

Aloha my name is Rochelle Nakoa. I am an LCSW and have been licensed for 11 years. I have worked with hospice patients and families for end-of-life care. As a readjustment counselor I assisted veterans and families to transition back to civilian life. While working as a therapist with active military I assisted in the areas of substance abuse, relationships with family and command. As Chief of Mental Health working in the Department of Corrections I provided individual and group therapy to Men, Women and Transgender populations incarcerated.
