Aloha! My name is Brooke Maloney and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Missouri and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Hawaii. I have nearly 15 years experience working as a professional counselor in several different settings. Most recently I worked as an Outreach Counselor in a public middle school for students in 6-8th grade. Here I helped students manage interpersonal issues often arising from conflicts at home, social media, or with their peers. Prior to this, I spent time working as an Individual and Family Therapist. My clients came from all walks of life; some were experiencing difficulty in their lives because of prior abuse and trauma while others were having a hard time navigating and adjusting to certain life events such as the death of a loved one, angry and oppositional children, and/or work and life difficulties. I have worked with families who were having issues establishing roles and defining expectations for all of the members; as well as extensive experience helping clients struggling with anxiety, depression, adjustments issues, and other relationship based concerns. My main goal when working with a client is to not only help alleviate the problem that they are coming to therapy to deal with but to also aid the person in creating the life of their dreams. We often get focused on the symptoms but forget to look at the overall picture of how we would like our lives to look and feel and what steps are needed to get there. Once we begin to work through the current problem we are better able to look to the future and decided how we want it to look and more importantly, how we want to feel about the life we live. I strive to help clients through a cognitive-behavioral, person centered approach where I integrate mindfulness-based therapy to promote good mental and physical health. In addition, I have had amazing transformational results using a fairly new technique called Emotional Freedom Technique, sometimes shortened to just "Tapping". This form of therapy has been used to treat anxiety, PTSD, aid in weight loss, and to lessen stress and other interpersonal issues. Any life problem can be aided by learning this easily taught and integrated healing modality and we can integrate it into your therapy sessions if you so choose. Reaching out for help at any point in our lives can be a very difficult decision. Going the distance with a trusted therapist can make all the difference. I applaud you for seeking help to make your life one lived with ease and joy. If you so choose, I would be honored to be your guide on this journey. I look forward to hearing from you!

Hello and welcome! Because you're reading this, you're probably thinking about therapy. Let me tell you that you've done a great job so far in seeking help, it's definitely not an easy step to take and I'm a huge believer in celebrating the small things. There's something to be said about a person who wants to better themselves; whatever draws you here, I hope you find what you're looking for. Here's a little about me to help clarify any questions you may have: I have a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2016) from Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. I later moved to Missouri and am now a licensed professional counselor in the state of Missouri. I've worked as a therapist in several different settings such as college counseling centers, rehabilitation centers for drug and alcohol use, and in the private practice setting. In these environments I've helped people manage concerns with depression, suicide and self harm, issues related to relationships with themselves and others, anxiety, sexuality and the LGBTQ population, and addiction. I've also been able to work with people that have experienced trauma and family conflicts. Each therapist operates from a certain style and orientation in which they approach the counseling process. Usually, it's a multi-faceted approach and I believe that the key is to remain flexible. That being said, my main approach tends to be relatable, personal, and straight forward. I believe in transparency in sessions, meaning I'm not afraid to be real with you while helping to guide, support, and validate your experiences. Therapy is a vulnerable process so it's my job to help you feel safe and empowered. In doing this, we'll talk about your strengths and what makes you who you are, and use those to help achieve your goals. I believe that you're the expert of your life; I'm just here to help you talk through it and I find that through positivity and humor, life seems a bit more manageable.

I am in my 6th year as a Licensed Professional Counselor, this is who I am, not what I do. Doing what I love is effortless and natural to me so our time together may also feel natural and easy. Most of my professional experience has centered around fear-based struggles: stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, transitions, relationships, past experiences... I use these terms that are common however they feel like boxes; my finding is that everyone comes into these spaces differently, experiences them differently and moves out of them differently. Counseling is an art form; I am here to assist you with identifying and then creating the picture you want for your life. The canvas for this is a Person-Centered approach. The originator of this philosophy, Carl Rogers, said this is often all that is needed to facilitate change. I have a variety of other tools for us that may prove useful; DBT, CBT, Narrative Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Breathwork, Yoga, Transactional Analysis, Hypnotherapy, Existential Therapy, Trauma Therapy and REBT are the most common. They are all amazing in their own way.

Blessings to you and your effort to pursue support on your behalf. You deserve your effort! In my over 30 year career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have been privileged to connect with three year olds to 103 year olds! My motivation is to make a positive difference in the time I am given in this world. My first recommendation to all clients is to advocate for yourself as you choose a therapist. Invest in yourself and your value to make certain you feel comfortable with the therapist you choose. Often if the experience isn't what you expected, a client will hesitate to request an alternative therapist, ultimately discontinuing therapy with unmet needs. The connection between you and your therapist is instrumental in successful therapy . My responsibility is to create a healthy, therapeutic relationship which is based upon trust and nonjudgemental acceptance. Therapy is a challenging process and your willingness to share what might be a painful history is a gift I do not accept lightly. It is important to me to honor your journey, acknowledging the vulnerability of opening past chapters of your story to someone who begins as a stranger. The names of the therapeutic modalities I choose to implement are not the priority as you explore your willingness to begin this process. It will be necessary for you to begin with the goal to trust in my competence and experience to qualitatively respond to what you are currently managing. I would be grateful for the opportunity to join your story.

In addition, I’m certified as an evaluator and psychological services provider in the State of Illinois for the Early Intervention program, which works with children (and their families) from birth to three who exhibit developmental delays. For a child’s success, it’s important to work with parents. My more than 20 years of experience includes working with children of all ages, adolescents, adults, and families, in a variety of settings (home, community and school environments). This includes children and adolescents with behavioral problems, ADD/ADHD, as well as individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment problems. I worked for several years as a School Social Worker (Pre-K - grade 12), and in the child welfare system. Hello and Welcome! My name is Vanessa and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Florida, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico & South Carolina. I am bilingual(English & Spanish) and can provide counseling in both languages. I am originally from New York and moved to South Florida for college and never left.   I have lived in South Florida for over 15 years and have built both a family and career here, I guess the sunny warm weather made it hard to go back :-)   My clinical background in Mental Health began as an undergrad and continued through grad school, working for the public sector for the Department of  Children & Families where I worked with children, then the elderly in skilled nursing facilities and with adolescents in group homes.  I then went on to work and provide services that include counseling and advocacy for oncology patients at one of the largest cancer hospitals in South Florida. In addition to this, I have also worked with adults in inpatient rehab for substance abuse and court ordered treatment, and served outpatient clients in the LGBTQ community. My training is in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT),  Psychodynamic, Solution Focused,  and many others that include treatment planning; where my goal is to get my client back to a normal baseline that they are comfortable with and can function in their daily life. I am an open minded, kindhearted and empathetic individual, where my mantra is that I am here for YOU, my job is to assist you in anyway that I can, and help you manage life's daily stressors that may be recent or long-term.  I work daily to remove the stigma that Mental Health has in our society, because the reality is, we all have good and bad days, some just need some assistance and guidance on how to manage it better. I believe we are all one step away from a mental health crisis, life is one big roller coaster of stress, worry, emotion that all revolve around something changing in our life that we were not prepared for and do not know how to adjust to it. So my job is to help you navigate all of that and achieve happiness, peace and overall well being.  You are more than welcomed to message me through Better Help, and be proud that seeking assistance for yourself is one of the bravest things we as human beings can do for ourselves is admit when we need help. My schedule is flexible and am able to provide services in the evenings to accommodate the working person.  Session hours: EST I look forward to working with you!

I am licensed in Missouri with over 20 years of clinical and counseling experience. Also 25 years teaching teaching social work and human services. I have experience in helping people cope with life changes as well as with relationship issues, family conflicts, and parenting issues as well as anxiety, depression, and stress. My clinical approach is the use of Cognitive Behavior Therapy with positive psychology approaches as well as mindfulness, and aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Depending on your needs. You can read a description of Cognitive Behavior Therapy from the America Psychological Society from their web site here: https://www.apa.org/ptsd-guideline/patients-and-families/cognitive-behavioral Neuroscientist Rick Hanson discovered that our brain has a natural negativity bias to internalize negative experiences more deeply than positive ones. According to Dr. Hanson, the brain is like velcro for negative experiences and teflon for positive ones. However we can learn skills to help us work with that bias in a more positive way. I find it useful to explore not only what you want to accomplish in therapy, but also what is going right since they are the foundation you will be building on. I often provide clients with the opportunity to do "homework," which can include both activities, and reading. You are the expert of your story, and we all have strengths that can assist us in dealing with challenges. Our individual strengths that are the foundation we all build on. Some other commonly asked questions on therapy with a licensed counselor and BetterHelp serving the Mount Leonard area can be found below:

How does the cost of in-person counseling with a therapist compare to the cost of BetterHelp with a licensed Mount Leonard therapist?

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Mount Leonard due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300
  • Therapy with a psychologist: $100

While many psychologists in Mount Leonard may not take health insurance, some in the state of Missouri may work on a sliding scale, meaning they'll factor in your income and charge what you can afford per session. With a BetterHelp therapist throughout the state of Missouri you can expect significantly more affordable options, with therapists sessions ranging from $65 to $100 per week (billed every four weeks).

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Mount Leonard?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Mount Leonard therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors and therapists are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Mount Leonard therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Mount Leonard therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in MO, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles or therapists above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 65339 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Mount Leonard counselor?

Before seeing your Mount Leonard therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Mount Leonard therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Mount Leonard licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Mount Leonard counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Mount Leonard, Missouri can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Mount Leonard has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
