While my first career was in the business world, my subsequent careers were being a Lutheran pastor, working as a social worker in child protective services, and being a mental health therapist. I have 24 years of experience in social work and mental health. As a pastor, I have served 5 theologically conservative Lutheran churches in 3 states. My experience as a therapist has mostly been with community mental health clinics that provided services under the auspices of the state department of mental health. At community mental health clinics I provided therapy to clients of all ages, many having the full range of serious mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma from sexual abuse and post -traumatic stress disorder. My experience in community mental health was invaluable in honing my skills as a therapist. At one clinic I was part of the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy team that provided DBT therapy to clients suffering from borderline personality disorder. I believe that psychotherapy is a marvelous thing. It brings healing to people only through words. It is work, and to be successful in therapy one must work harder than the therapist. My therapeutic approach is cognitive behavioral, which means that I help the client to change beliefs that are false (example: "I believe I am worthless due to my history of sexual abuse as a child."), and change behaviors that are unhealthy and which stand in the way of a life that has joy and peace. That means that the key factor in my approach is CHANGE. My successes have been with clients who are willing to do that. I look forward to working with you!

My name is Walter Barron LCSW, and I have worked with many different client issues, stress management, ptsd, depression, anxiety, grief, major SMI diagnosis and marital/family relationship problems. I have been in the mental health field for 35 years, and my counseling experiences have included inpatient/outpatient, military employment for 11 years, veterans administration outpatient community services, and as a private contractor. My therapeutic approach is best described as client centered therapy with a warm non directive systems approach, having an emphasis on family individual dynamics. In addition I used the cognitive behavioral approach with the underpinning being the models of Dr. Beck, and Dr. Ellis. however; I do not impose any treatment modality on a client until there is a thorough assessment and a client therapist relationship with the client indicating what change they desire. I respect client self determination, and realize that entering into therapy is a big step. I hope you will find therapy rewarding, and I look forward to working with you.

Blessings to you and your effort to pursue support on your behalf. You deserve your effort! In my over 30 year career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have been privileged to connect with three year olds to 103 year olds! My motivation is to make a positive difference in the time I am given in this world. My first recommendation to all clients is to advocate for yourself as you choose a therapist. Invest in yourself and your value to make certain you feel comfortable with the therapist you choose. Often if the experience isn't what you expected, a client will hesitate to request an alternative therapist, ultimately discontinuing therapy with unmet needs. The connection between you and your therapist is instrumental in successful therapy . My responsibility is to create a healthy, therapeutic relationship which is based upon trust and nonjudgemental acceptance. Therapy is a challenging process and your willingness to share what might be a painful history is a gift I do not accept lightly. It is important to me to honor your journey, acknowledging the vulnerability of opening past chapters of your story to someone who begins as a stranger. The names of the therapeutic modalities I choose to implement are not the priority as you explore your willingness to begin this process. It will be necessary for you to begin with the goal to trust in my competence and experience to qualitatively respond to what you are currently managing. I would be grateful for the opportunity to join your story.

You took the first step by reviewing this profile. I look forward to working with you! I believe establishing a positive therapeutic relationship/having a good connection with the person I’m working with helps facilitate effective counseling and positive outcomes. You are the expert of your own life, and I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals. My counseling style is conversational, approachable, supportive, holistic, and interactive. My approach is eclectic, as I use a variety of treatment modalities to best meet the needs of the individuals I am working with. I believe in the importance of treating others with respect, and for 12 years was the Character Education Coordinator for a school district. I continue to educate myself and attend seminars to learn, grow, and to stay up to date. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in both Illinois and Missouri, and a Licensed School Social Worker. In addition, I’m certified as an evaluator and psychological services provider in the State of Illinois for the Early Intervention program, which works with children (and their families) from birth to three who exhibit developmental delays. For a child’s success, it’s important to work with parents. My more than 20 years of experience includes working with children of all ages, adolescents, adults, and families, in a variety of settings (home, community and school environments). This includes children and adolescents with behavioral problems, ADD/ADHD, as well as individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, and adjustment problems. I worked for several years as a School Social Worker (Pre-K - grade 12), and in the child welfare system. I have worked in a short-term in-home placement stabilization program and treatment foster care program, then supervised the in-home Placement Stabilization, Treatment Foster Care program, Reunification, and Specialized Foster Care programs. In addition, I have worked in the field of adoption, in the licensing and adoption process, and with adoptees and adoptive parents doing individual counseling, support groups for adoptees, and support groups for adoptive parents. I am here to support you, and I look forward to working with you. Wendy Phillips, LCSW, C-SSWS, BCD ** Please Note -- I do not provide legal/court documentation, diagnosis, assessment or treatment reports, written documentation, or letters for ANY clinically related and/or other purpose.
