I am trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, and Prolonged exposure. I have worked extensively with individuals who struggled with managing emotions and thoughts that may often lead to behaviors that are interfering with their quality of life. My role is to accept you where you are at, and also work on helping to push towards the change you want in your life. My counseling style is empathetic, non-judgmental and compassionate. I also specialize in working with people who have had trauma in their life, ranging from abandonment, neglect, sexual, physical abuse, emotional abuse, self esteem issues, anxiety, attachment and self harming behaviors. My goal as a therapist is to help you see yourself in the most kind and compassionate way possible. Upon working together, we will discuss what is the most troublesome in your life and break that down in realistic small steps to get your closer to where you need be. I have practiced as a counselor in Southeast Missouri for 18 years, working initially as an crisis counselor and then in an outpatient setting and I am also an Instructor of Psychology. I also previously worked as a therapist in a residential treatment center for children and teens. Over the years I have had the pleasure of working with children, teens, and adults. Most recently I have provided individual, couple and family counseling in the home. Together we have addressed concerns regarding relationship issues, eating disorders, depression, anxiety, loss, as well as parenting problems and family conflict. As a college instructor I also interact frequently with young adults and have served to counsel individuals through various transitions. My counseling style is client-centered as I believe in the power of each individual to grow with the right help and support. I draw from a Christian faith foundation and aim to facilitate insight and hope, highlighting one's strengths and positive steps toward change...change in thoughts and change in behaviors. The relationship developed with a person is a gift and can serve as a spring board for a solution-focused plan for change and improvement in emotional state and motivation. The various ways that we can achieve this together include cognitive-behavioral exercises, mindfulness and relaxation exercises, and narrative activities. Drawing from the Humanistic perspective, I believe that every person deserves a safe space where they can be heard without judgment and aim to work collaboratively with each client to develop treatment goals that will move them to reaching their full potential. I believe in your unique strengths and I will work alongside you to establish a plan and facilitate growth. If you have read this, you have already taken an important, courageous step toward improving your mental and emotional state. I would be happy to help you take those next steps. I look forward to getting to know you on this journey.

My name is Bruce Miller, I am a Licensed Clinical Social worker. I have worked with various populations and have a diverse background including people with trauma, crisis, depression, anxiety, grief and loss and relationship problems. A bit about my approach to therapy I very much like a positive and solution focused to therapy. I think it is important to view problems as an opportunity for building resilience by utilizing past strengths and successes. It’s my goal for clients to feel supported and enriched during and after each session. I like a person-centered approach meaning you are in charge; we go at your speed and things should always be comfortable for you during therapy. What you can expect from our first session My clients typically tell me how much better they feel after one session. Rapport building initially and I want to hear your story! I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or like they are giving up their past to someone they don't know. I believe in a trust-based relationship and going at your pace as you are comfortable. Mostly, clients tell me they feel like they have chatted with a friend but realize there has been growth in the conversation. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, family conflicts, coping with grief and loss, & intimacy related issues. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. Seeking positive change can be challenging and sometimes scary. I applaud you for taking this first step. Let's get started!
