20 years of experience

Hi, I'm ShirIey, I am a 61 year old Native American Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have over 20 years experience in the mental health field. I have worked in community mental health and I have worked in Tribal Behavioral Health. In both of these agencies I have worked as a crisis on-call therapist on rotation as well as seeing clients in office. Currently, I operate from a private practice which I established in 2013. Although I have spent a great deal of time living and working on the reservation, I have lived in many other cultures and I truly appreciate diversity. I have always been a very curious person so Social Work has been a great outlet for me to explore populations, cultures, and behaviors. I obtained a Bachelor Degree in 1998 in Human Services Rehabilitation from Salish Kootenai College on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Pablo, MT. I have a Masters in Social Work from Walla Walla University in Missoula, MT in 2004. Once I received my MSW, I practiced for three thousand supervised clinical hours before I was able to sit for my clinical license exam. I have worked with diverse cultures and populations. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) which has proven beneficial in the treatment of PTSD (Post- traumatic Stress) and other adverse/disturbing experiences. What disturbs or traumatizes us is unique to the individual. I prefer to spend time with each new client building a rapport and an alliance of trust and safety. I like to develop a plan of treatment that is tailored to the unique individual and with full collaboration. I am a firm believer in the healing process of telling one's own story and areas an individual would like to examine since they are best at knowing the parts of self they believe need to be examined to help them to progress and grow in their desired direction. I look forward to exploring with you!

Hello there! Thank you for taking the time to read my profile page. Being a supportive clinical social worker is one of the greatest joys in my life. I enjoy listening to others and helping them to find a way through tough times. My experience includes a Masters and Doctorate in Social Work and for almost 20 years, I have worked with teens and adults. Currently, I counsel the chronically ill on end of life decisions, help couples navigate marriage and families, individuals with mental health struggles, and teach at a local university. I "retired" after 15 years of helping teens and their families try to understand how to resolve conflict and learn to communicate better. I also have a small private practices where I help people in tough transitions such as divorce and family issues. I counsel a lot of couples who have struggled with infidelity and polyamorous and open relationships. In my clinical practices and experiences, I have had the privilege of helping families overcome struggles with teens are struggling through issues of adolescence and mental health problems. Parents sometimes believe that they are the only parents going through tough with teens. I enjoy supporting parents in the journey as hard as it might be sometimes. Also, I have a passion for helping those navigating a new life in sobriety. Addiction recovery is one of the bravest things that I have seen people overcome and I like to help people stay on the path of recovery. All my clinical practice incorporates cognitive behaviors strategies with a very positive Rogerian approach. Those I treat will be treated with respect and clearly set boundaries. I want to help others by starting to help them where they want to begin. I believe in my clients I help and I want them to be happy and successful. I can help my clients by setting goals, open communication, and unconditional positive regard to help with hard life situations. I wish you the best on your journey and hope to have the chance to help you! Sincerely, Dr. Terri Nicole Sawyer, LCSW Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP) Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider (CTMH) Certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (C-DBT)

I'm sorry you are having a tough time right now, but I'm really glad you are reaching out. I'd like to help you work on the struggles you are facing; and offer you a safe place to explore your thoughts and feelings. It sounds like you have a great deal going and that this might be impacting your mood and energy. Once you respond to this message, I will send you some additional general information about how this online counseling process works, and then we can get started. I am a healer for those seeking enlightenment. I believe in treating everyone with respect and in accordance with the laws set forth by the Lord our God. I am licensed in California and Montana. I offer 15 years of clinical expertise along with my mission, which is to guide injured souls by assessing their wounds and mapping out unique healing paths that reunite them with their purpose in life. I have experience helping clients who battle interference caused by dark energies (stress, anxiety, depression), life lessons disguised as trauma (relationship issues), toxic parenting and narcissistic abuse (trauma, abuse, anger, emotion management). I also offer relationship guidance for those seeking healthy relationships. Healthy relationships reverberate light. Unhealthy relationships breed toxins like anger and contempt, which add darkness to the atmosphere. I help individuals and couples enhance communication, discover root causes of conflict, accept differences, let go, mediate and settle disputes. Working with me is suitable for those who are firm in their decision to heal and overcome obstacles. I work with beings who are motivated to heal and release the stagnant energy attached to old wounds and patterns, commonly referred to as "baggage." Each session is personalized. This means you are unique. Therefore, your journey and the path toward enlightenment will be unique. The guidance offered will assist you in working to achieve your desired outcome, should you follow it.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Lodge Grass?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Lodge Grass therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors and therapists are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Lodge Grass therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Lodge Grass therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in MT, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles or therapists above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 59050 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Lodge Grass counselor?

Before seeing your Lodge Grass therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Lodge Grass therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Lodge Grass licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Lodge Grass counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Lodge Grass, Montana can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Lodge Grass has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
