My education includes my Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Campbell University in North Carolina. I completed my graduate studies in Social Work at University of North Carolina in Wilmington. I have practiced behavioral therapy for eight years following my 2012 graduation from University of North Carolina in Wilmington. The populations I have served during that time have varied greatly. I have worked with children under 10 whose behaviors disrupted the success they could accomplish at home, school, and other environments that they were in. I also helped children ages 12-19 who were needing behavioral health services to identify their needs and how they could go about having their needs met that also allowed them to meet the societal needs placed on them. Societal needs being: appropriate school performance, eliminating or reducing involvement in the juvenile justice system, and improving interactions with those within the child's home. For years, I worked with adults with dual diagnoses of mental health and developmental disability. I am currently working with the military population where I do individual and couples therapy. My treatment approaches include learning what brings my clients joy, what they enjoy doing, who is important to them, and goals they have. I then dig deep into these elements to identify value system, core values, and how clients view themselves. From there, I ask in what way can I assist them to get to the destination they want to get to. The destination can be a mental, emotional, or physical. Also, the destination can be interpersonal. The therapeutic models that I use to aid me in helping my clients are: narrative therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing. I have experience with clients that have symptoms of anxiety, trauma, depression, PTSD, low self-esteem, poor self image, self-critical, impulsivity related to anger, difficulty adjusting, grief, and loss.

Hi! I'm Sarah, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, in North Carolina. I have over 10 years experience working in the behavioral and mental health field. While I have experience working with a variety of diagnosis and populations, I enjoy working with adults and couples that are struggling in areas such as grief/loss, parenting, marital concerns, interpersonal relationships, anger management, major life changes, anxiety and depression. I approach therapy by first building relationship and understanding what you want to get out of this. Therapy is not a one size fit all, therefore I tailor sessions to best meet your unique needs. I believe setting goals are valuable in order to have clear direction and keep the momentum of therapy going. I believe that I am here to serve you, so if you need immediate problem solving and support, we can do that too! I use evidence based practices to guide my work, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and problem solving therapy. I am patient, kind, and gently honest when you need accountability. I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker - Clinical Practitioner with over 14 years of professional work experience promoting mental health and wellness. I strongly believe that you are the expert of your own story and that you have many strengths that will no doubt assist you in overcoming any challenge you may face along your life's journey. Asking for help and guidance, seeking a more fulfilling and happier life for yourself takes willingness, self-compassion, courage, and insight. I am here to support you in that process. I work alongside clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared and understood without fear of judgment or miss-interpretation. Alliance and trust are valuable assets to nurture, while in the midst of exploring ambivalence, trepidation, and personal growth. Reaching out to a person you don't know yet is a truly brave action. You are taking the initiative to move towards the new and unknown. I will listen, encourage, support, & empower you by helping you navigate new pathways. I believe every one of us deserves maximum attention and commitment to our mental health and wellness from all health care professionals we encounter. My model is dedicated to a solution-oriented continuum and emphasizes practicing a seamless continuity of care that is essential to revealing the unique strengths and challenges of each individual person's life journey. Experiencing effective therapy is all to often encumbered by the severe limitations inherent to a service-centered system of care model, rather than a committed and authentic person-centered approach. I recognize the centrality of systems and cognitive theory in understanding and better navigating our human experiences. I’ve come to understand that most of our life challenges involve comprehensive conditions and circumstances that can be explored and engaged through the use of unique practice informed, bio-psycho-social and spiritual exploration, and holistic and integrated evidence-based intervention and self-actualization methods. Building a strong therapeutic alliance with clients based on developing trust, unconditional positive regard, and mutual compassion provides a foundation for exploring interpersonal challenges, wellness, and existential equilibrium.
