In the 1850s, investors started up a development project called the Shepard Point Land Company and bought 600 acres on the eastern tip of the peninsula of the Newport River. At the time, it was called Shepard’s Point, but it is now Morehead City.

No matter who you are and how strong you may be, we all need help sometimes. It is nice to know that you can do things on your own, but it is also important that you know that in the Morehead City area, there are many mental health experts who can give you a hand when it is needed.

I have experience working in the mental health field. I have worked in a broad range of clinical issues. I also have experience working with depression, intellectual/developmental disabilities, mild autism, and substance abuse issues. I use a person-centered, holistic, eclectic approach in treatment, meaning I begin where you are and focus the treatment approached to your needs while ensuring the therapeutic relationship is built to impact the best possible outcome for your counseling experience. I primarily use evidence based techniques including cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused counseling. However, I do incorporate more other approaches to counseling as well. I would describe my counseling approach client focused and supportive, but I am ready to help you tackle the obstacles you face in the most direct way possible. Together we can work on establishing goals and steps for you to help overcome your current problems. Living your best life is like preparing for a marathon, not a sprint. If you are looking for quick fixes, I am not the best counselor to work with. I believe in taking time and working on wellness slowly, holistically, and consistently. Just as physical health takes time and consistency, so does mental health! I look forward to helping you in any way I can! I truly value the therapeutic relationship and hope to help guide you through the concerns and issues that you are facing. I believe that the most important part of therapy is a trusting relationship with a goal oriented focus I look forward to getting to know you and exploring options and opportunities together.

Hello! My name is AnnMarie Worcester and I am a licensed counselor in the sunny state of Florida as well as in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. For 27 years I have been fortunate to live my passion of counseling, teaching, mentoring, coaching, consulting, and supervising. I have worked for hospitals, residential facilities, crisis units, juvenile evaluation centers, rape crisis centers, youth shelters, Boys and Girls Clubs, child abuse councils, YMCA, community mental health centers, Social Services, and private counseling agencies. My theoretical orientation is very person centered and relationship based, focusing on providing encouragement and fostering empowerment while teaching mindfulness through reality based and CBT therapy techniques. I offer my services to clients who have the willingness and ability to resolve their own problems with my assistance through the use of practical solutions and tools that can be applied in all aspects of life and any situation that may come up! Counseling involves your active participation both in and out of the counseling sessions, as well as a genuine desire and continual effort to change your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. YOU determine the progress of the counseling process. Change and growth will be at your pace.... sometimes it will be easy and swift, sometimes it will be slow and deliberate, sometimes it will be painful.....its all up to you and the time and effort you put in. Success is being able to face life's challenges in the future without my support or intervention by intentionally and consistently using the solutions and tools we’ve discussed and you've practiced on your own. Are you ready? I am here to help!

Hi, my name is Angela Wilson Gardner. Before telling you more about me, let me commend you for taking this courageous step in seeking support through therapy as an avenue towards a healthier lifestyle. I have 9 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and over 20 years of experience working therapeutically with children, youth, adults, and families. I earned my Master of Social Work degree from East Carolina University in 2006 and Bachelor of Human Development and Family Studies degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1996. I have a genuine spirit and have always known helping others is just as much my personal goal as well as my professional “calling”. I recognize that seeking counseling is not an easy decision. It is my intention to provide clients with a judgement free space. At times it may be challenging but my purpose is to provide a feeling of comfort, which results in an informative and reflective process. As therapy can be intimidating for some, I try to provide clients with initial processes that will assist in building our therapeutic relationship. I recognize that sharing feelings and past experiences may make a client uncomfortable, sad, angry, overjoyed or embarrassed. All of those are not easy feelings to share, but I assure you these are certain elements that are a part of the process and helps personal growth. I encourage clients to be themselves each session and to express emotions and thoughts freely. As I mentioned, my job is to provide a judgement free space. I would be honored to walk this journey with you.
