I believe in the collaborative process of counseling that focuses on clients' strength to assist in overcoming deficits that may impede optimum functioning. My theoretical orientation of choice is Cognitive Behavior Therapy, which focuses on the connection between thoughts and feelings that influence behaviors. I also use Mindfulness and NLP principles to help guide clients effectively. This is an important step in your journey towards healing and I will do my best to assist you in reaching your counseling goals. I will help you in your desire to close the gap between where you are right now and where you want to be in the future, with the support of individualized therapy sessions. Let's find a solution together! My name is Ms. Eaves. I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a board-certified counselor. Currently, I am pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology with a specialization in addictions. I began my Counseling career 2014. Although cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is the primary modality that I focus on, I use an eclectic psychotherapy approach to meet the client-specific need. To illustrate, I provide clients with CBT tools to deal with events of everyday living and explore critical issues using an approach that is appropriate to meet the client-specific problems. The CBT approach has many advantages in multicultural counseling situations. Thus, if therapists understand the core value of their culturally diverse clients, they can help clients explore these values and gain a full awareness of their conflicting feelings. As a therapist with a cognitive behavioral orientation, I will educate you to focus on learning skills to deal with your problems of living. Then you and I will work together to develop a detailed case conceptualization to understand how you views their world. While being sensitive to each client's struggle, I explore values and core beliefs in a nonjudgmental environment with empathy to help clients to learn how to empower themselves by relying on their inner strength. These experiences have given me a prodigious foundation to build to the knowledge gained during the graduate program and fieldwork through direct counseling experience with individuals. *Currently video sessions are not offered unless discussed with me in advance.

I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience in the Behavioral Health field. Over the years I have worked in many different settings ranging from Community Mental Health centers to private practice. I have worked with a wide variety of client populations and issues including depression, anxiety, relationship problems, codependency, addictions, abuse/trauma, anger management, stress management and many others. I am trained in best practice models including CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing and Wellness Management and Recovery to name a few. However, no matter how well trained and experienced I am, it means nothing if I am unable to empathically connect with my clients. This begins by recognizing and honoring the courage it takes to enter therapy and "bare your soul" to a complete stranger. I am naturally empathic and genuinely interested in others which I use to foster an environment in which my clients feel safe, understood and accepted. As a therapist I adhere to certain guiding principles such as the following: Each client is doing the best they know how. The problem is not that there is something wrong with them - it is that they simply are not aware of more effective ways to navigate life's issues or they lack the skills needed to do so; What is effective for one person, is not necessarily effective for another; Each person's solution lies within them and it is my responsibility to help them find it; and none of us received a "How to live life" handbook - Life is hard and messy and this means that none of us have all the answers including me! And so I view therapy in many ways as a collaborative process in which we work together to find the best ways forward. I don't see myself so much as an "expert", but rather as a guide imbued with knowledge and skills that can help a client find their own path to healing, health and recovery.

How to describe the joy I get when a client connects with me and honors me with their journey? I cannot. I am passionate about hearing stories...clients have stories from their lives that make them unique. In the wrinkles and turns of those stories are the nuggets of wisdom that help each client live their best life. I believe our best moments of growth are during life’s transitions - when paths open up or close down and we find ourselves with new choices. Joining a client on their unique path and helping them see the transition from a different perspective gives me joy. I am firmly rooted in attachment theory and I bring this aspect to individual counseling to help clients build or strengthen their support networks to move towards their imagined futures. Client communication is strong focus of sessions - in how clients speak to themselves and how they communicate with others. I would be honored to work with you in this part of your journey.
