For as long as I can remember, I have always been the person who my friends went to for advice. I always knew I wanted to help others, so I attended UNC Charlotte to receive my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to turn my passion into a reality. It was not until I went through a difficult situation in my life, where I battled cancer in my twenties, that I realized exactly what I was meant to do. The feeling of being alone, and not having anyone who truly understood me, taught me that I never wanted anyone else to feel the way that I did. I have been blessed to work in environments where I had the opportunity to work with a diverse population of all ages on various different issues. I gained experience in working with individuals, couples, and families. I provide therapy for young adults and adults. I have experience working with anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, grief and loss, and life’s stressors. My approach in therapy is that you do not have to face life’s challenges by yourself. I will be there next to you to walk with you on your journey. I do my best to provide unconditional support, warmth, empathy, and understanding by providing you a safe and non-judgmental environment. I believe in using different types of therapeutic approaches in therapy since I believe everyone is different. I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, while remaining Person-Centered to help you recognize your strengths. I use different tools to help you learn the skills to help you cope with life’s stressors. I also believe in the importance of self-care as a part of your well-being. I hope to instill hope and positivity into your life.

Welcome! I’m April, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina. Congratulations on taking the first step towards reaching your goals. Don’t discount the decision you’ve made to search for help, because many people never do so. I see counseling as a partnership between the therapist and the client; I have the mental health expertise while you’re the expert of you! For this reason I'll spend our earliest contacts getting to know you better. Choosing a therapist is a very personal decision and therefore, I want to give you information so you can choose for yourself if you’d like to work with me. I would describe my counseling style as warm, but professional. I love to use strength-based approaches as much as possible, also incorporating your values into our work. I find myself using an integrative approach, incorporating different theoretical frameworks and techniques that I will tailor to fit your needs. Two approaches I use most often are Person-Centered Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Person-Centered counseling uses a lot of reflection to help you process your thoughts and feelings, which is often the first step towards solving your problems. CBT helps us examine your thought patterns and whether they are helpful or harmful. If a particular thought is harmful that could trigger issues like a depressed mood, for example. We’ll work together to replace the harmful thoughts with more helpful ones. There are many other approaches to potentially integrate into our sessions, and I’d be happy to explain anything I believe may benefit you. I once read a quote online (source unknown) that rings true for me: “A counselor isn’t someone you pay to pretend they care about you. A counselor is someone you pay to teach you how to care for yourself.”

Greetings! First let me say "Congratulations on the decision to make a change in your life". I give you applause because life can be difficult; heavy in fact. As a Master's Graduate from East Carolina University and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of North Carolina, my ultimate goal in life is to help alleviate some of that load. Through working with NC's Department of Social Services Reunification Program and specializing in Multi-Systemic Therapy (MST); an evidenced based program aimed at keeping families together and children from being displaced, it's clear to see that most of my background consists of working with families and couples in an effort to strengthen bonds and relationships. However, as an outpatient therapist, I also have an extensive background working with individuals who are having a difficult time adjusting to the stresses of the world and may be wondering what to do with their lives. Having worked years as a prison therapist, I believe in a strength based approach and meeting the client where they are; after all we are in this together., right? I have over eight years’ experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Solution Focused Therapy; all that aim at highlighting the positives in your life and extending that to areas in which you'd like to see change. I am an active listener and believe in focusing on what you feel is most important and not the other way around. I also believe in "keeping it real" and addressing all mental health issues from a Reality Based approach. My availability is currently Monday-Thursdays, that time when we are counting down the days of the week, just trying to make it to Friday! Those crunch days when we've had to put on a face at work or school, but now desperately need someone to help make sense of it all so maybe... just maybe... this will be the night we get to sleep a little more soundly. If you feel that I could add any value to your life, please don't hesitate to reach out. I look forward to working with you!

To all my Prospective Clients: Hello, I am Sherry ("Share") Friedman, I am a National l Board Certified Counselor (NCC), clinically licensed as a mental health counselor (LCMHC) in the states of Rhode Island, North Carolina, and South Carolina. I have over eight years of experience working as a psychotherapist from a Jungian (transformational and psychodynamic) clinical orientation. My counseling approach is holistic and multi-dimensional. This means exploring the biopsychosocial, emotional, cultural, energetic, spiritual, and cosmological influences that may be creating stress, anxiety, grief, emotional trauma, relationship issues, and career challenges. In my background as a nurse, doula, and energy healer, I have also helped support women with postpartum depression and parents experiencing adjustment issues associated with their changing roles. As a psychotherapist with a warm, interactive counseling style, I tend to gravitate toward clinical assessment and listening skills based on "Listening with HEART" (Healing, Energy, Awareness, Resiliency, Transformation). I believe strongly in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. As an HSP (Highly Sensitive Person), I am skilled at creating a safe space for my HSP clients and empowering them to discover and embrace their gifts of compassion and empathy with healthy boundaries. The ultimate goal of all therapy is transformation, so that we can exist as the highest, best version of ourselves. This typically involves finding one's life purpose and who we incarnated on this planet to become. Deeper self-discovery and getting to the root cause of pain requires a rare form of bravery. It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and take that first step toward change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you. I look forward to working with you! All the best, Sherry Ann Friedman, NCC, LCMHC, MA, MS Ed., MSCC

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in White Lake due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in White Lake?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of White Lake therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

Before seeing your therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A White Lake licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a White Lake counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in White Lake, North Carolina can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

White Lake has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
