Hello. I graduated from East Carolina University with a Master’s of Science in Counselor Education in 2013. I completed my undergraduate studies in Family and Community Services, with a split concentration in psychology and special education. I also have an Autism add-on certificate. I am a Nationally Certified Counselor and member of the NBCC. I have resided in North Carolina all my life and enjoy the beaches, mountains, and in between. I have been working in mental health since 2003 in a variety of settings, including mental health agencies, in-home services, school settings, private practice, and residential and group homes. I have worked with individuals, helping them overcome issues such as anxiety, depression, loss and grief, life transitions, past-trauma, substance abuse, negative habits, interpersonal relationship problems, family stressors, parental concerns, and executive functioning. As a professional counselor, I prefer to provide a trauma-informed eclectic and integrated approach to counseling services based on the needs of the individual. The theoretic background that I most often utilize is an Integrated Approach of Solution-Focused Therapy with an accommodative integration of additional theories, such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Existential Therapy, and Reality Therapy. I like to assign out-of-therapy “homework” and encourage one to monitor progress towards goals. In therapy, we will likely identify stressors and triggers, apply positive coping skills and identify negative coping skills, address family patterns and life scripts or working models, and practice exercising mindfulness and building reflective capacity. I look forward to helping you achieve your happiness.

46 years offering treatment

I am Dr. Tom Davis. I have a PhD in Counseling Psychology from Duke University and am a Licensed Psychologist with 46 years of clinical experience. I practiced in the same medical facility for 35 of those years and treated the entire age range from age 3 to age 94. A major benefit of practicing at the same facility for all that time was that I often treated the same clients from childhood up through adulthood. It was not uncommon for me to have treated three generations of the same family. This gave me a rare and highly valuable vantage point regarding the long-term development of a client as an individual and as a member of their intergenerational family system. It also allowed me to treat adults in individual, couples and family modalities as they developed over the years. In our therapeutic relationship, I view you as the expert and me as the professional. Your expertise is the wealth of self-knowledge and personal experiences that you bring to therapy. As the professional, my job is to help you organize this expertise into an actionable form that you can use to manage your life more effectively. Over my decades of practice, I have honed a treatment approach that I find produces the most efficient and effective method of improvement. During the first session, I work with you to define the problem(s) that need attention and devise a practical, problem-oriented treatment plan to resolve these problem(s). We will focus on your thoughts, behaviors and emotions, in that order. In general, thoughts determine how you behave and behavior determines how you feel. When thoughts become more organized, behavior becomes more productive and both contribute to more positive emotions. I use homework assignments to make the best use of treatment between sessions. With child and adolescent clients, I use an age-appropriate version of the above treatment plan and include family members as helpful change agents for the child. The remaining sessions are spent working through the identified problems and other issues that may surface. The ultimate goal is for you to feel secure in your ability to handle current and future problems. I have conducted psychological testing on over 5,000 individual clients. I have tested for depression, anxiety, dementias, brain injuries, personality development, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Disabilities and clients’ ability to handle a variety of surgical interventions. Therefore, if you have had psychological testing, I am able to understand the test results and to provide guidance based on those results. My overriding goal for myself is for you to end each session with a better understanding of yourself than you had when you began the session. My overriding goals for you are 1.) to gain mastery over your life that in turn enhances your self-esteem, reduces worry and leads to more positive feelings; and 2.) to have improved skills to deal with the ups and downs of daily living. After each session, I send follow up notes that summarize what was covered/learned that day, what home work assignments were generated and what our future direction should include. My office hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 AM until 5:30 PM. Specialties: Depression Anxiety Panic attacks PTSD Adolescent issues Marital and family issues Geriatric issues General adjustment issues

Hi there! I am Brandi Geddings, a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina. I am nationally certified through the National Board of Certified Counselors and am also active in the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). I desire to use my personal and professional skills to relate and meet where you presently are in life. This is done with empathy and curiosity using relaxed and practical methods. I believe strong rapport, nonjudgment, authenticity, and unconditional positive regard are of most importance when developing and maintaining a therapeutic relationship. My style of counseling involves taking a holistic approach to help you identify strengths within yourself, recognize any negative patterns or concerns, and develop improved thought patterns and coping skills. I tend to be easy going and talk without using a lot of clinical terms while taking a collaborative and equal position with you. I hope to walk alongside you and be supportive, non-judgmental, and open-minded as we navigate difficult areas of life. With many individuals, I use a strength-based person-centered integrative approach. This is often solution-focused and includes interactive CBT, DBT, techniques, psychoeducation, problem-solving skill-building, family systems, active/reflective listening, mindfulness, existential therapy techniques; with a general approach of holistic wellness (physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, environmental, occupational). You may also prefer a simple emotional outlet. I am here to listen and provide support for you. I have worked in an outpatient therapy setting with a diverse population of individuals that include children, adolescents, and adults across the lifespan as well as working across social and class lines. I provide counseling services through individual, family, group, and psychoeducational settings. Some areas of expertise and competence include teen and adolescence, anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, life transition phases, adult ADHD, adjustment/transition, executive functioning, family dynamics, effective communication skills, and self-esteem. I hope to assist in meeting your personal goals and create practical coping mechanisms to build on. I won't suggest interventions that are complex or that doesn't make sense for your current life. We will work together to create goals that are meaningful and rewarding throughout the therapy process. I always encourage open communication regarding what is helpful and not to ensure a positive therapeutic experience and move forward towards goals. I cannot wait to meet and begin working with you!!!

33 years offering treatment

I am licensed in North Carolina with 30 years of professional work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, family conflicts, & parenting issues. My approach to therapy is simple. Visualize getting into your car or whatever it is you drive. To get where you are going you look out the windshield. You use the rear view mirror as needed but you don't drive looking backwards. You drive by having vision and a plan to get where you're going. The therapy process is very similar. Teaching ourselves to live life looking forward and having a plan is how we move forward in life. We learn from the past. We see patterns and trends and use this information to make adjustments, but we live by having a vision for ourselves, finding purpose and in the moment of choice, exercise integrity to our core fundamental beliefs/values. I work with my clients to create an open and safe environment where thoughts and feelings can be shared without fear of judgment. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards change. I am here to support & empower you in that journey.

I have 4 decades of experience and training in a variety of methods. I do what is needed depending on the client and the specific circumstances. 1. Currently I have worked helping adult children and their parents establish more constructive and respectful relationships. Author of ¨Keep Your Parents Home: Keep Your Job and Life: Save Your Fortune and Sanity". It is 1/2 professional advice on how to do it and 1/2 personal experience from when I kept mine at home. I used my professional experience and knowledge combined with the mistakes and knowing what works I learned from doing this myself. keepyourparentshome.com Last year I met a man whose wife died after 4 years of his being her nurse. I gave him my book and he said he wished he'd had it earlier because it would have been so helpful to him and his wife in those four years. He is a professional writer and is helping me rewrite the book to include couples. I like working with is families who are dealing with these issues. I have shown that I can work with an open mind, knowing that there are a variety of needs and helping families find the best with respect for all, especially important are boundaries, but also helping people avoid the current hype. I have had many successes at this. 2. As a writer I have a special affinity and ability working with people whose life circumstances and issues have hindered their abilities to create writing, painting and a variety of creative activities. 3. I have developed a system for working with bulimia and overeating. 4. I am very good with people who have experienced childhood abuse, my current patient is an 85 year old woman who came to me 3 years ago to resolve her childhood abuse. I know that this work can be done at any age. 5. I have expertise with adult adoptees and birth parents helping them resolve those issues including reunions, if wanted 6. As an Interfaith Minister who has trained in spirirtual direction and dream work, I help people understand their spiritual lives and how to use this to improve their issues. After 4 decades of experience and additional training the only people I have not been successful with are active alcoholics and addicts. I have worked well with people who have been sober for several decades in putting their lives where they want to be.
