During 17 years as a therapist, I have enjoyed helping families and individuals improve emotions, thinking patterns and relationships to live more fulfilled lives. My training (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Multisystemic Therapy, etc) has provided me the opportunity to work with a host of problems, including parenting, conflict resolution, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, and work related issues. I enjoy working from a systemic approach to explore all aspects of a person's life, and this greatly increases the likelihood of success for the individuals and families I counsel. My therapy approach is supportive, yet directive. I see you as the expert and I am here to assist you with the tools you need along the way. Let me tell you a little about myself! My husband I have been married for 23 years and I consider him my best friend and supporter! We have two great kids, ages 12 and 17, who keep us rather busy with all of their activities and the animals they have encouraged use to love (Cash - our Wire-Haired Pointing Griffon & Willow - our Guinea Pig). My greatest enjoyment in life is loving others, whether it is through spending time with my family or helping the people I work with.

TJ (Tanya) Gorman
I am TJ Gorman and I have been working as a therapist since 2001. However, I have worked in the field of mental health for over 20 years. I began working in inpatient mental health as an intake worker and then worked with the homeless providing case management and outreach. I started my counseling profession in the field of substance abuse and gambling. After completing my masters degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling from Drake University in 2007, I continued to enhance my therapy skills and furthered my knowledge in trauma. While at a large non-profit, I provided assessment, individual and group therapy. I served on several committees and helped implement changes to our organization and completed the Change Leader Academy through the NIATx program. This helped our agency better serve clients by mainstreaming paperwork, improving access to services and building retention. I also served as a clinical supervisor while at this agency. I have presented locally and regionally on trauma and addictions and as a parent of both biological and adoptive kids, I understand the unique challenges that can come with family disruptions. I currently hold licenses and certifications in mental health, gambling and substance use disorders. My theory of change focuses on better understanding how our childhood shapes who we are so we can become who we want to be. Helping persons heal these past trauma's or hurts, helps support long term success and a renewed sense of purpose. Sometimes the coping skills we use to help us become disruptive and damaging. Learning how to be at peace with our emotions, setting boundaries, and identifying healthier coping skills we can live the life we really want and deserve.

Tonya Walker
I am licensed as a mental health professional in Nebraska and New Mexico (living in New Mexico) with nine years of experience. I have worked with clients on the gender spectrum, individually and in groups, with a wide range of concerns, including: trauma, PTSD, domestic violence, sexual trauma, LGBTQ+, depression, coping strategies, grief, anxiety and relationship issues. My BA in Psychology and Russian is from the University of Oregon and my MA in Counseling is from the University of New Mexico. My counseling approach is integrative and begins with the core of person centered therapy in addition to aspects of solution focused therapy and at times elements of cognitive behavioral therapy. I am currently licensed in Iowa and Nebraska with over 26 years of professional work experience. The bulk of my career has been in community-based settings as I felt this type of setting was where I could give back to those that have helped me and my family of origin. I had a mother that was bi-polar and had a significant borderline personality disorder. Her first major hospitalization occurred following my birth. I have grown up in the Midwest but have lived in California and South Carolina as well as serving in the US military with one deployment to Afghanistan in which I served as the highest-ranking enlisted member of the Human Intelligence component of a Brigade Combat Team. I have a grown gay son and feel that my own healing process in coming to terms with my feelings toward my mentally ill mother were greatly facilitated by friendships in the queer community and feel a great depth of gratitude and respect for this community. I have been divorced, struggled with my own addiction, co-dependency and mental health issues throughout my lifetime and have carried various mental health diagnoses at different times in my life as well. I don't look at myself as complete expert on life but to quote Brene' Brown: "I might just be a little further down the road in recovery is all". I view therapy as more of an art form in that there are skills and techniques that can be learned and applied to the work of art that is being created, but it is the process involved that brings out the beauty of the final product. I understand the importance of being heard and feel that a person’s truth can emerge through a collective experience in the interaction and engagement with another human being. I hope to bring my experience in life and working with others to your life experience. I always say, “I am here to guide you, and you do all the hard work.” When goals are created, I make sure it is realistic, achievable, and short to start with, long-term goals will come when and if the client wishes to create them. I may push a bit but never outside of your comfort zone. I feel it is important, to be honest in therapy, to help keep clients in a comfortable and safe environment. If I recommend something and the client is not comfortable or knows they will not do it, being honest about it saves time and a different recommendation can be made.
