*I do not offer video or phone sessions on BetterHelp - Only text-based therapy* People ask me, "When is it time to see a therapist?" I don't know anyone who can say everything in their lives is going well all the time; we all have challenges from time to time, but you don't have to go through them alone. I'm here to help you use your strengths to keep what is going right, and help you find your strengths to fix when things are going wrong. I specialize in working with children, teens, young adults, and families. I bring warmth, empathy, and a touch of playfulness and creativity to my work. You can hear me speak more about my approach and counseling philosophy here: http://bit.ly/podcastdrjm I began specializing in family, children, and adolescent therapy ten years ago. I know parenting can be challenging, and I know that children and teens often need a different approach to therapy than adults. I earned my PhD through researching the ways in which social media impact well-being, and I use evidence based practices with all of my clients. I have advanced training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and I am an active researcher in how social media impacts our well-being. I have a PhD in Mental Health Counseling, completing my degree with a dissertation about Facebook's effect on mood and affect. I believe the best counseling relationships are built on trust and mutual respect, and are collaborative in nature. Therapy should be a safe place to explore difficult topics. If you are looking for a warm, genuine, and caring therapist, working with me may be a great fit. I look forward to our work together, contact me today and let's get started!

I hold a Doctorate and Masters in Clinical Psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and a Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Temple University. I am a Licensed Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have provided individual, couples, and family therapy for more than twenty years. I am trained as a cognitive behavioral therapist but my approach is eclectic, person-centered and trauma-informed. I work with the individual where they are and together we explore and develop plans to overcome the challenges they are facing. I have worked with clients in various settings and helped them address depression, anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. I can also help you navigate intimate relationship difficulties, family issues, life transitions, grief and loss. Starting therapy can be stressful in itself but I can help ease that stress as I provide a safe, judgement free environment and provide compassion and understanding that allows you to speak freely about your thoughts and feelings. I believe a warm and trusting therapeutic relationship is the most important part of creating lasting change. We will work together to address your concerns, overcome barriers, and identify your strengths to help you achieve your goals. I look forward to working with you!

I am a licensed professional counselor with 30 years experience . I have a strong background with client who suffer with depression, anxiety and relationship conflicts. My therapeutic approach uses both solution focus treatment and relationship modeling. This can help me teach clients coping skills to help manage overwhelming feelings as well as help clients understand through the therapeutic relationship the role they play in their own significant relationships with others and themselves. I am a strong advocate for clients to participate in their treatment and believe the therapeutic relationship to be an alliance between myself and my client. This relationship teaches me as much about myself as it does about my client. I appreciate both the responsibility and the joy of seeing clients grow and change. I am looking forward to working with BetterHelp and starting this new chapter in my professional life.

If you're reading this, then there is a good chance that you may be struggling or hurting (or trying to help someone who is). I'm sorry that you are in that space and I will do my absolute best to support you (and walk beside you) in your journey. I am a firm believer in being open and forth coming. If something doesn't work for you - tell me and we can work to solve it. I appreciate a therapeutic relationship built on trust and honesty. If either one of us is lost, confused or concerned, then we discuss it and figure it out. A little bit about me (just so folks know that I'm both a genuine person and that I have the experience and knowledge to do this work): I graduated from Temple University with my Master's Degree in Social work. I studied cognitive behavioral therapy, addiction counseling, rational emotive behavioral therapy, EMDR, motivational interviewing, and most importantly I studied Gestalt Therapy at the Gestalt Institute of Philadelphia for three years. (I'm also happy to give you a somewhat concise description of Gestalt Therapy because it is a bit ambiguous.) I teach part time at both Rutgers University and Camden County College. I have extensive experience providing trauma counseling (both individual and group) to survivors of sexual assault from multiple backgrounds. I value my family and the awesome relationships I have with my friends and support people in my life. I have done a significant amount of work on my healing from trauma, and I use my experience not a measure of comparison but rather as a source of internal strength. I am proud of my well-earned accomplishments, and I work hard to learn from the things that I have screwed up (there’s plenty of them). I live in New Jersey, enjoy the outdoors, running, cycling, pina coladas and getting caught in the rain (I also tend to have a sarcastic sense of humor). One caveat is that as a social worker and a therapist: I fall very far to the side that I believe that our society has oppressed and harmed many groups of individuals. I believe that it is our responsibility not just as individuals but also as therapists to actively support those who have been harmed by racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, Islamophobia, ableism and anti-Semitism. So while I believe that providing culturally responsive care is essential, I go beyond that to see part of my responsibility is to work to undo that harm that has been done. Finally, I encourage you to contact me to find out more about me before you make your decision. I am happy to answer questions you may have and give you an opportunity to find out more about me to make sure I am the right person for you. Brian Colangelo (He/Him/His)
