Lisa Williams
Hello and welcome! My name is Lisa Williams. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor in Colorado and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in New Mexico. I completed my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at the University of Colorado at Denver. I have over 24 years of experience in a variety of settings helping people with various issues, such as depression and anxiety, post-traumatic stress, trauma/abuse, life changes/transitions, relationship difficulty, and other issues. Everyone is different and has different needs at different times, so the type of therapy used is customized. The most helpful approaches are usually Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, trauma informed models, Solution Focused therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and narrative therapies. It can be so helpful to feel understood and to have someone on your side to help navigate any changes you want to make. Sometimes we can make big or small life changes. Sometimes we accept things as they are and find ways to still have the life we want. My style is to understand you and what your going through, help you with self-understanding, and work together to make changes or add skills to meet your personal goals. Life can be hard! We all need help sometimes. It would be my honor to work together with you to help navigate life's difficulties.
Dr. Beatrice Ilumin
Having worked as a licensed clinical mental health therapist in a myriad of settings: a treatment center, shelter for battered families, DWI prevention, and private practice in our New Mexico community, gratitude remains for individuals and their families who sought to recover from life's challenges. Working with adults from diverse backgrounds experiencing life transitions, relational difficulties, grief and loss, aging, and care-giving to an elderly loved one are presented with courage and hope for change into a better way of life. COVID has entered into our lives with its necessary precautions; hence, this counseling room is an empathic place to share "how COVID had or continues affecting your life." And in all of life, both you and I seek justice, equity, inclusion and a sense of belonging mindful that in this counseling room: Safety First! is offered and prevails. Each of us has a story and our work together is to help redirect and make sense of your narrative in a safe and non-judgmental space as "we" explore the unique nature of your struggles. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is addressed whereby thoughts and actions lead to core beliefs hurtful to one's own self as well as other therapeutic practices which include Mindfulness Practices, Solution-Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology Therapy and an Approach to Trauma-Informed Care each held in confidentiality, compassion, and empathic listening; it is an alliance between therapist and "subscriber" to be at the center of each session. NOTE: subscribers 29 years and older are preferred; a member is not turned away as long as reasons for therapy can be served by this counseling room's specializations; however, an individual cannot be younger than 25 years. From the University of Southern California, a Bachelor of Arts in English cum laude was awarded. Eventually, a move to New Mexico was made to attend St John's College Graduate Institute whereby a Master of Arts in Liberal Arts was received. Studies continued with Pacifica Graduate Institute, Carpinteria, CA; hence a recipient of a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology and Doctor of Philosophy in Depth Psychology. Travels to meet youth from all over the world were made to Western Europe, Mexico, Israel, and China. In China, a school-teacher-guide asked, "Please spell psychology." With a right index finger positioned on the top of her left hand, written in Mandarin was psychology: "Oh, Bea, psychology means you see my Heart." I am privileged to be chosen as your therapist. Gratefully, Beatrice Beatrice Holtz Ilumin PhD LPCC

My approach is positive and hopeful while realistic, and client focused and directed. My approach is informed by Jungian perspectives, as well as cognitive behavioral approaches. I have a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Colorado State University. I live in the mountains of Northern New Mexico. Theorists and clinicians who inform my work include Carl Rodgers, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Jacques Lacan, and Bracha Ettinger. I hold faith in the fact that we continue to grow heal and develop throughout the life span, and that each age and stage presents challenges and can also add richness and meaning to our life experiences. I feel passionate about the therapeutic encounter and the possibilities for healing and transformation. I bring this philosophy and clinical lens to our work together in areas ranging from trauma recovery to addiction recovery to grief and loss work, and related issues including depression, anxiety, PTSD, loneliness, and life stage challenges, including overwhelming parenting or caregiving stresses and dilemmas. Attending to emotion and the psychological experience can often help create a shift in situations or difficulties that have felt stuck and stagnant for years or decades. My approach is friendly, positive, thorough and practical. In a field that emphasizes the individual, I acknowledge the importance of systemic factors, including notably income inequality, and inequality based on sex and racialization that impact our experiences and mental health, as a factor in making decisions in our lives for our healing and wellness.

Nicole Neal
I am a clinical counselor, specializing in trauma and addiction. I have 25 years of experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, verbal/emotional/physical/sexual abuse, and psychotic disorders. My approach mirrors that of Thomas Szasz, MD, as he wrote in The Healing Word: Its Past, Present, and Future: "Mental illness and psychotherapy are fictions. Neither exists. Only the patient, the therapist, and a particular relationship between them exist. Both participants are responsible moral agents. Each is existentially equal to the other, each influences the other, and each is responsible for his or her behavior. The therapist can neither cure the patient not make him or her sick. However, the patient can do both of these things -- for or to himself or herself-- by making use of the therapist's helping or harming words (Bohart & Talman, 1996)." ... The expert's role is to engage the clients in a process of searching self-examination, with the aim of enabling them, if they so choose, to become more free and more responsible.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Socorro counselor?
Before seeing your Socorro therapist near you, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Socorro therapists near you may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?
Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Socorro licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.
Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Socorro counselor can be dependent on your process.
People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.
Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Socorro, New Mexico can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Socorro has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
