Thank you for taking the time to read through my profile, I am glad that you are taking the step to reach out for help! To begin, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Licensed Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and a Life Coach in New Mexico. For the past 14 years I've worked with individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan to tackle challenges that they're facing in their lives. I have specialized training in family relationships, marriage/couples, substance abuse, sexuality, mindfulness, grief and loss, trauma, and military families. I engage in a non-judgmental approach to helping clients identify their strengths and use those to tackle the problems they face. I think that it is important for me to note that I really love the work that I do, and I love being able to provide therapy through a platform that is convenient and available 24/7. Online therapy is new and exciting, but also may be a little scary at first. I'm here to take things at your pace and to help you to navigate the platform and to help you feel at ease with this style of work. :) I engage in client-centered practice where your needs and wishes are respected and honored. I practice from a systems perspective that involves considering how the challenges you face are impacted by, and likewise impact, the systems to which you belong (i.e., family, work, community). I am also a strengths-based therapist who avoids pathologizing anyone, we all experience challenges and need help from time to time, that is not an indication of some inherent weakness. I am comfortable working with liberals and conservatives, religious and non-religious individuals alike. Because I adopt a non-judgmental approach and one that allows you to be the expert in your own life, my own perceptions and beliefs take a back seat. Of course it is impossible to completely avoid bias, but I actively address with my clients their beliefs and values and we work together to understand one another and respect differing perspectives. So please do not be confused or discouraged because I list in my profile that I can work with people from opposite spiritual, religious, or otherwise beliefs...the client-centered practice that I have built allows an opportunity for this. I am also happy to discuss this further if questions arise. :) Personally, I am the mother of two young and energetic boys who keep me running! I have been married for 15 years, my husband and I enjoy watching movies, camping, hiking, and most of all laughing. We also have two very spoiled dogs who round out our household. I take pride and joy in my work and look forward to engaging with you as you begin your journey to a better you!

I love to support my clients on their personal journey of healing from depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions, codependency, and other challenges. My therapy practice incorporates a range of person-centered approaches, including Art Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Trauma Therapy. I completed my masters in Clinical Counseling and Art therapy in 2019, with a certificate in Addictions Counseling. Since then I have founded a counseling program where I still work full time, providing therapy to immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers through a local non-profit. I work with clients who have experienced profound trauma, sexual and physical abuse, domestic violence, homophobia, transphobia as well as immigration related concerns. I have also done clinical therapy work at our local crisis center, ran art therapy groups at a domestic violence shelter, and have run grief support groups for teens and adults in both English and Spanish. Prior to becoming a counselor I worked for eight years as a family advocate and case manager working with families experiencing homelessness. My work has shown me the depth and power of the human spirit, as well as it's profound ability to heal in a non- linear process of post traumatic growth. As a therapist my style is warm, collaborative and caring. I am oriented towards the person-centered approach in building a therapeutic relationship with my clients. This means that I work to meet each client "where they are" and to serve as a catalyst to each individual who is progressing through their unique process of self-discovery and developing tools to heal from trauma, depression and anxiety. I see my clients as the expert in their lives and their healing, working to draw out your strengths and shift the narrative on how you experience your limitations.

I am a clinical counselor, specializing in trauma and addiction. I have 25 years of experience working with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship problems, verbal/emotional/physical/sexual abuse, and psychotic disorders. My approach mirrors that of Thomas Szasz, MD, as he wrote in The Healing Word: Its Past, Present, and Future: "Mental illness and psychotherapy are fictions. Neither exists. Only the patient, the therapist, and a particular relationship between them exist. Both participants are responsible moral agents. Each is existentially equal to the other, each influences the other, and each is responsible for his or her behavior. The therapist can neither cure the patient not make him or her sick. However, the patient can do both of these things -- for or to himself or herself-- by making use of the therapist's helping or harming words (Bohart & Talman, 1996)." ... The expert's role is to engage the clients in a process of searching self-examination, with the aim of enabling them, if they so choose, to become more free and more responsible.

How do I know if online counseling is right for my family in Wagon Mound?

One of the potentially rewarding aspects of working with a Wagon Mound therapist is the validation and active listening they can provide. Your friends and loved ones may also be available to listen, but you may feel that they may lack the skills to provide objective guidance. Counselors and therapists are trained to respond to various concerns, symptoms, and mental health conditions.

Therapists in your city can support you toward a healthier emotional state, regardless of your mental health, life concerns, or healing needs. While supporting individuals in developing healthier habits, another good benefit of Wagon Mound therapy is having an understanding, safe space with a non-judgmental party who can support you through challenging experiences.

Many people have sensitive topics that they may feel ashamed to discuss with their friends or partner. A Wagon Mound therapist can help you confront these concerns and open up through unique methods of support. There are also many types of therapy, such as art therapy, where you may find you can express yourself through creativity instead of words with a psychotherapist.

With a lot of people in NM, therapists may be booked out with clients. Through the list of profiles or therapists above and others within BetterHelp's team, you may be able to find a psychologist within 24 to 48 hours. If you're searching to find a a nearby psychotherapist close to 87752 or the surrounding zip codes, consider others available through the BetterHelp site where you can schedule a session based on your and the therapist's schedule. No matter if you are seeking help from therapists in your area or beyond, online therapy can be a great option.

How should I prepare for my first therapy session with a Wagon Mound counselor?

Before seeing your Wagon Mound therapist, prep for your session by reading to understand the process. You might write a list of questions you want to ask your psychotherapist, any emotional pain you may feel, and the ways in which you hope to improve. When you attend your session, you can let our therapists know if you have any concerns or feel unsure about what to talk about. Wagon Mound therapists here may help guide you with open-ended therapeutic questions while offering mental health services. The first session will often serve as an intake to get to know you as a person and learn why you're attending therapy.

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Wagon Mound licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Wagon Mound counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. A psychologist can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based psychologist in Wagon Mound, New Mexico can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Wagon Mound has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change therapists easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
