I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with 20 years experience. My focus is always to work in collaboration with each client to develop a treatment plan that best addresses the areas they would like to work on. I accomplish this by developing a trusting therapeutic relationship, utilizing the client’s strengths, and offering guidance to strengthen motivation to reach their goals. I prefer to use techniques from several modalities including solution focused and cognitive behavioral therapy as well as motivational interviewing. I received my Master’s Degree of Science in Social Administration after receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work. I obtained an independent license to practice and have also received a supervisory designation. My career has included working with everyone from teens to senior citizens, individuals, and groups but the majority of my experience is in grief and loss and bereavement. I love working with people, but also enjoy spending time with my husband and our two dogs, playing pickleball, attending major league baseball games, and traveling. Reaching out for support can be a difficult step, but I know one thing to be true, it does get better. The importance of feeling heard, being reflective, and taking time to work on you can not be underestimated. Take the first step! Welcome! After completing my masters in 1999 at Case Western Reserve University- Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, I immediately began working at a private inpatient psychiatric unit in my hometown. My focus there was treating predominately children and adolescents while working with their families and schools. Two years later I was able to obtain my independant license, and I joined a private practice where I have been for the past 20+ years! In private practice I have had the opportunity to broaden the clients I serve and for the past decade young adults/adults have compiled the majority of my caseload. Issues discussed have included the following: transitioning to adulthood, family/relationship stressors, difficulties with self control and decision making, self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and many more. What I have found remarkable over my clinical years is the consistency in which clients report the benefit of being able to talk/vent in a supportive, confidential, and non-judgmental setting. We all need support throughout our lives and a sense of connectiveness is vital to healing and understanding. My treatment approach is not a "one size fits all" moto. Many considerations are taken into account, including my client's needs and goals. However, many times themes related to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy are incorporated. I am a fierce believer in the power of our minds and the subsequent connection between thoughts, feelings and behavior. Solution focused approach also instills a sense of hope for the future and emphasizes the importance of empowerment of my clients. I strive to create an environment that will be supportive and validating as my clients share their journey with me. I acknowledge the difficulties clients may face when beginning this process and commend you for making yourself a priority!
