Hello and Welcome. I am so glad that you decided to reach out for support at this critical time in your life. It takes a great deal of courage to pursue change and to work towards living your best life. I am honored that you would allow me to partner with you on this journey. Here is some information about me and how I plan to support you as you move forward. I have a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Cleveland State University (2014) and am a Licensed Independent Social Worker with Supervision Designation for the state of Ohio. Since the beginning of my social work career I have been refining my skills and gaining valuable work experience in a variety of settings. After obtaining my Bachelor degree from Bowling Green State University I set out to change the world one person at a time. For the first half of my career I worked for the Salvation Army as a Community Social Worker and concluded my time there as The Director of the Women and Children’s Shelter. As a community social worker I engaged in crisis intervention, case management and served as a life coach. My experience as a director helped me to gain knowledge in group therapy, advocacy and coordination of services. I have worked with runaway teens as well as those involved with the justice system. The second half of my career included clinical social worker in the acute hospital setting as well as a rehabilitation center. In these settings I provided case management and counseling services for those individuals who had a sudden life changing event that resulted in depression, anxiety and a need to formulate a plan for a new normal. My current position as a hospice social worker allows me to provide grief, marital and family counseling prior to and directly after the patients transition. I truly believe that the work I do is my gift and each day I live by the motto, “We come into this world full, leave empty”. My counseling style is warm and engaging and I always strive to develop a therapeutic relationship that leaves the person feeling valued and heard. My primary approach is Client Centered which focuses on providing unconditional positive regard, empathy and genuine support. I also utilize Cognitive- Behavioral and Psychodynamic counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and special needs. If you’re ready for a change I stand ready to help.

Hi, my name is Monica. First, let me say that it takes a certain type of bravery to ask for help from anyone, let alone a stranger. It is different than the bravery it takes to protect our country or our cities, different than the bravery it takes to walk into a room full of people, and even different than what it takes to perform on stage or on an athletic field. So please take a moment to acknowledge this and recognize the positivity! I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida. I have worked in the mental health field for 21 years in some capacity, including community mental health, forensic assessment, and school counseling. What I find most gratifying is that "light bulb" moment when the person in front of me realizes and understands their worth, their strength, or that sense of connecting the dots which is so empowering for growth. I work with the individual to help them see past the personal obstacles that brought them to me in the first place and be able to find the happiness or feel relief they seek. I listen, I accept, and I coach you into a better state of mental balance. My approach to therapy is to challenge thoughts and behaviors that impede productive living; having said that, I also like to tailor my technique to the person I'm interacting with. I place most of my focus on our therapeutic relationship, which is the key to our success. I recently have found a passion for helping those courageous individuals in first responder fields. I have training in Emotional Freedom Technique (Tapping) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). I work with those living with anxiety, grief, life changes, stress, or whatever else might interfere with living the life you deserve. So pull up a "couch" (or your favorite chair or happy place, because with BetterHelp, you can do this wherever you feel most comfortable) and let's get started. I am ready to listen and do what I can to help.

I believe the most important component of good therapy is a collaborative relationship. It's important you feel a connection to your therapist. You must feel listened to from someone who is non-judgemental, like your concerns are taken seriously. A good rapport from a knowledgeable therapist is key. And that is what I have provided to my client's going into two decades of doing mental health work. I've worked with women through trauma and addiction. Moms struggling with anxiety and parenting. Younger people getting their education and needing support through transitions and life changes with crippling OCD. People with debilitating symptoms of bipolar disorder and personality disorders desperate to manage their symptoms and just get through the day. I enjoy working with women who are exploring career options, starting a new business or expanding their reach as entrepreneurs. I have extensive training and experience in addiction. I'm certified in harm reduction psychotherapy but also support abstinence whenever possible. It depends on each individual and their needs. I have a great deal of knowledge and experience with anxiety and depression as well. The most important lesson I've learned over the years and the best advice I can give is this: lead the least secretive life you can. Shame and guilt will magnify your stress enormously. Suffering in silence is terrible. These types of problems don't get smaller. They usually get bigger left untreated. I encourage you whatever you are struggling with don't keep it in. Talk to someone. That someone could be me.

I am a seasoned, clinical social worker with ten years of experience with the Department of Veterans Affairs, where I treated veterans with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and substance use disorders. Prior to my work at the VA, I worked in nursing homes and community mental health centers where I provided psychotherapy and crisis intervention to individuals of all different ages and backgrounds. First and foremost, I consider myself to be a trauma therapist, and I subscribe to the notion that most diagnoses are rooted in adverse experiences from the past. I've been described as "blunt" and "caring" by my clients due to my no-nonsense - yet compassionate - approach to therapy. I consider the greatest compliment that I've ever received to be "You are the person that tells me the truth that I don't want to hear." If you appreciate being called out when you're not being completely honest with yourself, then I just might be the right therapist for you. I look forward to working with you!

I'm currently working in addiction/ mental health services. My focus right now is on addiction, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and overall self-love and self-esteem. Sometimes, all people need is someone to talk to and a little therapy to give them a push in the right direction. I want to guide you and give you the necessary tools to set you up for success. I am very straight forward in my approach while still being understanding and showing compassion. I'm looking forward to working with you!

The average price of an in-person therapy session in the US with most therapists is $100 to $200 per hour. These prices may be higher in Stratton due to a higher cost of living, and a limited number of therapists taking new clients. The price also depends on the type of provider you are looking for. See the following average prices for various mental health providers without insurance:

  • Counseling with a psychiatrist: $150-$500
  • Counseling with therapists: $100-300

Should I find a therapist or psychologist for therapy if I feel fine?

Some simply don't feel the need to see a psychologist. However, some people may avoid attending therapy due to stigma or preconceived notions of what it might entail. Although psychologists often support people with mental health conditions, you do not need a diagnosis or specific condition. You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general feedback. A Stratton licensed clinical social worker may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Gaining a new perspective on yourself through various therapies might allow you to improve your self-esteem, work through relationships, and gain a better sense of your mental health goals. The success you may find with a Stratton counselor can be dependent on your process.

People may also attend therapy for specific motives, such as bullying, an autism diagnosis, a desire to learn mindfulness meditation, personality concerns, trouble with office workers, specific phobias, and many other principles that a counselor can help with.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?

Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Stratton, Ohio can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.

Stratton has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.

Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?

The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
