Experience teaches me that people get stuck when the story of themselves doesn't match their current reality. The stuckness usually comes from believing that change is too hard or not possible based on past choices. The truth is we choose our way going forward. There may be obstacles, but giving up on the life we want is deeply dissatisfying. I enjoy joining people to encourage them to be true to themselves. There is only one you. No one can else can be you. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Arkansas and Oklahoma. I have 26 years of experience in helping people choose their life instead of feeling like passengers. I have worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, elementary and high schools, and am now in private practice for my 16th year. My work is primarily with people experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, traumatic events, family problems, work problems, and relationship problems. I use problem solving, supportive techniques, and cognitive / behavioral techniques. But mostly I ask my clients to make changes and assess the results with me, then choose what works best. Since 2006, I have been working as an Independent Therapist in private practice and group practice settings. I would describe my approach as goal oriented, and client centered. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). Both modalities are hands-on, practical approaches to problem-solving. CBT treatment usually involves efforts to change thinking patterns and or behaviors. The goals are to change patterns of thinking or behavior that are behind difficult situations, and so change the way they feel. This helps people identify faulty or unhelpful ways of thinking and learn better ways of coping with life's full variety of stressors. Difficult and painful times are part of the human experience. I understand seeking help can be a vulnerable step to take. Exploring the healing process or enriching one’s personal growth, first and foremost, requires establishing a trusting and an emotional supportive relationship. Change is not easy, but it is possible. Due to other obligations, evening appointments are very limited.

I view my work as a therapist through a multicultural lens, and I customize my approach depending on the unique needs of every individual I work with. As a cognitive-behavioral therapist (CBT), I leverage the innate connections between a person’s thoughts, feelings, and actions to enact positive change. By encouraging my clients to question the truth of negative thoughts (such as “people are judging me” or “I’m such a failure”), I help them break out of painful patterns. I also help them focus on their strengths. Using positive psychology and motivational interviewing, I help my clients reframe their thoughts and view themselves in a more positive light. I encourage them to channel their anger, sadness, and other difficult emotions in a way that helps them overcome life’s challenges rather than becoming more deeply entrenched. I believe everyone has the strength to make positive changes. My goal is to help each person I work with cultivate the courage, resiliency, and potential that is already inside them.
