My name is Allyson Klein, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and have over 20 years of experience working as a therapist in the mental health field. I earned my BA degree in Psychology and Sociology from Brandeis University and my MSW degree from the University of California Berkeley, and I have worked in many different settings, providing care to people in need. My passion is to connect with people who may be struggling in their lives and help them work towards achieving their goals. I approach my clients with compassion and a non-judgmental stance. In my work as a therapist I know that creating a safe space for my clients is the key to helping them change. I have worked with a diverse range of individuals from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, age groups, and sexual orientations. I am well versed in working with people who struggle with depression, anxiety and panic, history of trauma, emotional and binge eating, addiction, family and relationship issues, work stress, and a multitude of life problems. My approach to treatment draws heavily on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Both modalities examine how our thoughts and behaviors influence our emotions and mood. DBT balances change strategies with acceptance strategies and is centered in the practice of mindfulness. Together we can identify ways of thinking and behavioral patterns that are leading to emotional pain and problems in living. Awareness is the first step; the next is beginning to make small changes that eventually lead to big changes. Change takes time, and it takes determination and courage. I am excited to walk that path with you.

Hello and thank you for learning about me! I am a California and Oregon state Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist with over 30 years of experience in a wide variety of settings, working with differing populations and ages. I have helped others who are looking to start or maintain their healing journey or are experiencing obstacles such as depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, addictions and trauma (including multi-generational trauma). My current clinical focus is on individual adult men and women from various ethnic backgrounds. What has become abundantly clear to me, especially since working within a Telehealth format which reaches people far and wide, is that no matter where we are from we all have in common the needs for purpose, meaning and value in our lives. Those who have worked with me on BetterHelp know that I pay close attention to words, love metaphors, and use humor when it is appropriate to do so. My style is warm and actively engaging and my approach pulls from various sources including solution-focused, dialectical behavior, narrative, and experiential therapies. I can't believe it has been 4 years already since I joined BH. I have developed a model "in honor" of this milestone. I hope it brings clarity to you as to how I may approach your situation. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California and New Jersey with over 18 years of experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community, children and adults with trauma history along with those struggling with suicidal ideation and self-harm, parenting issues, anxiety and depression. I have seen firsthand the difference a caring, empathetic, and attentive adult can make in a person’s life and feel honored when that can be me. For the last 8 years I have worked as a "crisis counselor" and clinician, seeing clients on a regular basis as well as supporting those in and through a crisis. I am able to think quick on my feet and can stay calm in high intensity situations. Throughout this time, I have assessed for safety and danger to self and others due to mental illness and have made determinations as to whether or not someone is in need of psychiatric hospitalization and am certified to make the decision that one needs to enter into a hospital for treatment. On the other side, I have also safety planned with many and have been able to connect people to supports that they need whether it be referrals that fit their current situation, assisting in making a plan to keep them safe and connecting the person to someone whom they feel comfortable with should they be in crisis again. I believe in treating the mind, body, and soul and understand as well as acknowledge, the importance of a healthy lifestyle and why it is important to utilize all the tools we have (or have yet to find) because we all have the power within us to heal, sometimes we just need some help getting there. I believe in the importance of coping skills and can help you find them or strengthen the ones you already have. This can include meditation, exercise, utilizing crystals or essential oils to help heal and calm oneself, and will seek outside supports when needed. I am a firm believer in working within my limits as a therapeutic clinician and have no problem offering referrals when necessary. My overall goal is to continue providing the support, offering guidance, and making a difference in the lives of others, using my expertise in trauma informed treatment and having an open mind.

For the last 13 years I have worked in family law as a mediator, custody evaluator, and parent coordinator. I'm looking to blend my experience in family law with my mental health training. My areas of expertise are divorce/separation, co-parenting, and parenting. I am licensed in Oregon and Washington and have been in private practice since 2020. I understand these life transitions are difficult and approach each situation without judgment and with compassion and sensitivity. My goal is to help you adjust to these changes so that you are able to be a better parent and/or person than you were the day before. Although I've been in this field for many years, the therapist role is relatively new to me but I look forward to learning together and helping you to establish a plan to reach your goals.
