Patrick Currie
Hi, I'm Patrick, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Pennsylvania with over 25 years of experience helping people in various settings. I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Widener University with a focus on behavioral medicine and health psychology, learning the amazing ways in which we can improve or regain health and wellness using the power of the mind. Then, while working on an inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit, I witnessed the damaging effects of trauma, abuse and neglect and so I returned to school at Temple University and earned a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology to be better equipped to help others deal with life's many challenges. I have worked in clinical, educational and correctional facilities providing individual counseling, conducting workshops and seminars on stress management, making healthy choices and other topics, as well as running psycho-educational group programs for violence prevention, drug abuse prevention, relapse prevention and anger management. I have continued to provide outpatient therapy addressing a number of issues - anxiety, depression, substance abuse, grief and loss, work and career problems, relationship issues, life transitions and more. No matter what type of challenges you are facing, I believe we all have the capacity to improve ourselves and live more authentic, healthy and fulfilling lives. Success in any endeavor is a process of developing awareness, gaining acceptance and taking effective action. My style is supportive and empowering, using elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and positive psychology to educate and inspire others to master these skills. I take a holistic approach to counseling, looking at every aspect of a person's life to identify strengths, build resiliency and encourage growth. I am also sensitive to the needs and challenges of individuals from different groups, including racial, cultural, LGBT, differently abled or other. I respect the values and experiences of my clients and I aspire to see the world from their perspective as we work towards the life they want to live.

I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and have been providing counseling services for 11 years in both face to face and virtual platforms. During my time I have been able to assist many individuals struggling with a wide variety of struggles including depression, anxiety, low self esteem, severe and persistent mental health symptoms, relational and family concerns, and substance abuse issues. My approach to counseling in each and every session is one that is focused on meeting the individual where they are. I am focused on making this process warm and comforting for you as I understand that the concerns being brought to the sessions are ones causing great discomfort. The theoretical approaches I utilize are Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality Therapy, and Behavioral Therapy. Again, all of this is just saying that together we will begin processing through the concerns being presented and identify ways in which you can begin working through them. I understand that it takes a great deal of courage for one to reach out and ask for help and I commend you on taking this step. I am so blessed that you are choosing to allow me to be apart of this journey with you and am looking forward to meeting you. At this time I am able to provide services via the chat sessions and messages. I respond in the chat Monday through Friday checking in several times per day.

Individuals who seek help are brave and courageous, as taking the first step is the hardest. Change takes time and courage, and if you are wanting things to change and be better for yourself, I look forward to meeting with you and working together.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in PA. I have been in the field over twenty years. I obtained my MA in Counseling in 2004. For the past seven years I have been working in a jail. I deal with patients with significant mental health diagnosis. I evaluate for suicide ideation, complete intakes and provide crisis intervention. I work with the officers to help understand the patients with mental health. As well as provide as needed counseling to officers that find a completed suicide. Prior to that I worked in a transitional housing program that also served people with significant mental health diagnosis. I have also worked as a mobile therapist, behavioral specialist consultant and was supervisor of a family support program. Due to the environment I currently work in I mainly utilize a solution-based focus therapy. Besides the patients with severe mental health, there are numerous patients with increased anxiety and depression. It is very focused on appropriate coping skills for the situation. I collaborate regularly with the CRNP and PA to address medication and physical concerns. I would enjoy the change of meeting with people outside of the jail setting. The therapy I can do there is limited, I would like to be able to expand more and work with a more diverse population of patients/clients.
