I believe that a person moves in and out of their various life stages with the desire to learn and sometimes re-learn life lessons. I work with clients to enhance self-awareness, insight, and skill sets for managing life. Our therapeutic experience will be a joint effort in reaching your goals! I work with adult couples struggling in their relationships, communication, and living styles over all stages of life. I work with children and teens in their social, emotional, educational, and family systems. I see adults attempting to clarify and reach life goals involving education, work, independence, esteem, and healthy relationships. My formal training is in psycho-dynamic therapy and object relations but I also received a specialized cognitive-behavioral training through The University of Pennsylvania and The University of Colorado. I have developed a combination of being able to work with and understand behaviors and thoughts, but also deeper set feelings and patterns. I have an intuitive combination of understanding how people learn and feel, to empower them to identify the direction in which they need to go. I am extremely collaborative and offer useful feedback while respecting the growth and change process. I offer an extremely nonjudgmental and safe environment with which to explore those areas people often cannot. Part of the reason I became a therapist was because after having experienced many major life events both as a child and an adult, it empowered me to understand, empathize, and guide others in their psychological growth. I genuinely look forward to working with clients and bearing witness to their story. I am married and have two children. I enjoy reading, gardening, music, yoga/walking, nature, and films. Thank you! Caralee Crary, MEd, MA, NCP, LPC

I have always seemed to be in a helping position. Before graduating high school I started work at a large veterinarian hospital/boarding kennel in Blue Bell, PA as an animal health technician and then the hospital administrator, where I stayed for over 15 years. I decided to return to school to pursue a degree in psychology and have been in the mental health field since 1998, working for such organizations as Special Equestrians as a side aid volunteer assisting people with physical and/or mental health disabilities and Lenape Valley Foundation as both a house advisor and a Partial Hospital Program group therapist for people with severe and persistent mental illness. I also worked for Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia for their Narcotic Addict Rehabilitation Program where I was a counselor for people addicted to heroin. I recently worked for Catholic Charities in NJ in the roles of therapist for the Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program working with kids diagnosed with substance abuse or dependence, as well as a clinical supervisor for the Comprehensive Family Treatment of Addictions Program (CFTA). This led to the position of Program Director for CFTA, the Therapeutic After-School Program (a therapeutic group for kids ages 8-12) and an In-home therapy/case management program, while also carrying a small direct-service caseload at my private practice. Finally, after taking the position of Service Area Director, with responsibility for 13 substance abuse, mental health and social service programs, I realized that I was moving further and further away from my original ambition of providing one to one service to clients. This realization led to my decision to get back into direct service. The ability to provide a safe environment for people to share their feelings, thoughts, and experiences is essential to effective counseling. Studies have shown no one therapeutic modality utilized by therapists is superior to another; rather, clinicians themselves ultimately determine whether treatment will prove effective. It’s not about the model being used; it’s the relationship between the counselor and client. This principle guides my work, in that I strive to provide a client-centered, strength-based counseling setting to individuals, couples and adolescents for issues related to addiction, anxiety, career or relationships. I look to my clients to be the experts of themselves, which encourages them to guide the therapy where it needs to go. What I offer is a space to gain insight in order for that insight to become the catalyst for change. I believe that once a person sees their truth, they have no choice but to accept that truth…though we often do our best not to. Each of us develops psychological schemas that teach us how to interact with people and the world. When we grow accustomed to a certain pattern of behavior, however, we look to repeat it, even after it’s outlived its usefulness. Addiction, for instance, is a maladaptive coping skill that worked at one time but does no longer. With a background in English literature, I bring a decidedly post-modern perspective to my therapeutic approach. One of the concepts I utilize is Narrative Therapy, which encourages and compassionately challenges clients to be mindful of the story they’re telling to better utilize their strengths. This theory acknowledges the power of language, in that not only does the language we use reflect how we feel, it also affects how we feel. Therefore, the words we choose to use can help to manifest the changes we hope to bring about. The idea is to encourage the use of more positive words as opposed to negative words while telling our life story. I have found this approach to be remarkably effective in helping clients confront the challenges of their lives in order to bring about lasting and meaningful change. Other approaches and techniques I draw from include Humanistic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (with a strong working knowledge of Motivational Interviewing), Trauma Informed Therapy, and Systems Theory. I find it satisfying to be part of helping people discover who they can be and realize that perhaps they’re more than who they thought they were. Ultimately, if each of us can achieve balance and make our own little corner of the world a little bit more satisfying and a little safer, we help to create a better reality for all of us. ABOUT ME Hello, I have been working with clients, and families, for the past 20 years. My experience includes dealing with a variety of concerns that impact their lives. I believe that who we are and what we are have been, to some degree, influenced by others which is sometimes out of our control. Who we are, our identity, can sometimes get lost and we just need a listening ear to get us back on the right path. My focus in counseling will always be that we have choices in the path we take in our lives, which empowers us to regain control of our lives: regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in while on this journey called life. A friend of mine said to me during one of our conversations, “the time you wake up in the morning is your morning, but you need to wake up.” This is your morning because you have reached out and I am glad that you did. I look forward to working with you

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Pennsylvania. I enjoy supporting clients who desire to heal from trauma and those who are struggling with transition concerns. As a person who grew up over seas, I also enjoy supporting clients who come from a variety of different counties and cultures. I graduated from Chatham University with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology and I generally practice using a culturally humble and trauma informed lense, although I believe that an important component to treatment is the relationship I form with my clients. Aimee Lighty
I am a licensed professional counselor with 22 years of experience across a wide range of domains - career, education, mental health, relationship/family work. I have a particular passion for helping clients to manage stress, depression, anxiety, and trauma symptoms that negatively impact their functioning in their relationships or careers. My style is warm, supportive, and light-hearted in general, but I can be intense and emotive when helping clients process through negative experiences and feelings. I don't believe in telling clients what to do, but I do believe in collaboratively exploring problems and designing solutions together rather than spending valuable time talking about things but not doing anything about them. Your time is precious to me, so I strive to ensure that our time together is productive and helpful. The primary modalities I use are cognitive behavior therapy, but I pull from structural and strategic family therapy concepts and techniques to help improve client relationships as well.

Is mental health care and therapy with a therapist worth it?
Therapy with a licensed counselor is effective and has the power to change individuals' lives. Each client is at a different stage of their emotional healing journey in life, as each human can be unique in their personality, expression, skills, and goals. An experienced clinician can target various symptoms, experiences, and personalities to help you feel your best and put you on the path to healing. Unlike advice from a friend, family, or non-professional, a mental health therapist has an understanding of various disorders like ADHD and depression with many hours of experience in treating adults in their practice. For this reason, seeing an evidence based licensed clinician in Smithfield, Pennsylvania can be worth it. Over 41 million adults in the US attend therapy services each year, showing it's a popular option and is proven to be effective.
Smithfield has many clinicians who practice person or client-centered individual therapy in-person and through online sessions to assist clients in their healing journey. If you opt into online therapy, you might also be able to meet with providers all over the United States and change easily at any time. Many people struggling with anxiety and depression, substance abuse, body image issues, and more find therapists that are a good fit for them, feel supported, and gain further insight into their lives through internet-based therapy.
Do therapists judge you in therapy sessions during telehealth appointments?
The boundaries between you and a therapist are in place to help you and them regarding ethical concerns. Mental health professionals are held by ethical standards through the American Psychological Association (APA) and are not allowed to judge or harm their clients. If you are concerned about sharing details about yourself, feel free to withhold personal information. Their job in the therapeutic relationship is to create a safe place, help you gain a deeper understanding of your mental health, and support you. You might consider changing counselors if you don't feel safe or respected.
